Chapter 95

Chapter 95

"Didn't I tell you to keep an eye on him? How exactly were you watching?"

On the other end of the phone, the servant's voice was trembling with fear.

"Mr. Brown, Ms. Hall said she wanted me to call you, so I went to make the call for you."

When I came back, she was already gone from the room.

Alexander had no patience to listen to the servant's explanation. He hung up directly, grabbed his car keys, and rushed out.

On the way, he made several calls in a row.

"Check the surveillance footage and send me the route she took when she left."

"Contact the transportation department and find out where my car is now."

More than ten minutes later, his assistant sent him a location.

Alexander looked at the red dot on the screen, his brow furrowed tight.

The police station.

What was she doing at the police station?

Could it be?

Alexander didn't dare think further. He floored the gas pedal and sped toward the destination.

In the police station reception hall, Stella sat on a bench.

Her face was still pale, but her expression had calmed down considerably.

A female officer stood in front of her, her attitude gentle.

"Ms. Hall, are you sure you want to drop the charges against Nicholas Jackson?"

Stella's body trembled when she heard that name, but she still nodded.

"I'm sure."

Seeing her like this, the female officer frowned.

"You need to know that he conspired with a doctor to perform an illegal operation on you. This is a serious violation of the law. As the victim, you have every right to pursue criminal charges against him."

Stella lowered her eyes and fell silent.

"I know, but he's helped me many times before. Even though he did wrong this time, he still meant well, and no actual harm was done. I don't want him to go to prison."

She looked up, meeting the officer's eyes, her tone firm. "I'm dropping the charges."

The officer sighed and pulled out a form from her folder.

"Then please sign here."

Stella took the pen and signed her name.

After completing the paperwork, she was taken to the visitation room.

The iron door opened, and she saw Nicholas sitting on the other side of the glass.

The moment he saw Stella, his eyes immediately turned red.

"Stella."

Stella picked up the phone and looked at him through the glass.

"Nicholas."

Just a simple greeting, and the tears Nicholas had been holding back finally fell.

"Stella, I'm sorry. I really don't know what to say to you. I know I didn't respect your wishes in this matter. I was wrong, but I really did it for your own good."

Hearing this, Stella felt a mix of emotions.

"For my own good? You think making me lose my child would make things better for me?"

Nicholas's voice was extremely hoarse as he explained incoherently.

"Stella, you don't understand. This child will ruin you. If you raise a sick child by yourself, what will happen to your future? You have your whole life ahead of you. You can't be dragged down by a child for the rest of your life."

"I'm not alone."

Stella interrupted him, her tone calm.

"What?"

Nicholas was stunned, not expecting her to say this.

And in the next second, Stella looked at him and said word by word.

"I have a child, but I'm not alone. I will do everything I can to protect her, take care of her. Even if he's not healthy, I won't give up on him."

"But you don't love that child!"

Nicholas looked at her excitedly, his handcuffs hitting the table with a harsh sound.

"This child is Alexander's. You don't love him, you don't want anything to do with him, so you won't love this child either. Rather than let him be born to suffer, it's better to—"

"Enough!"

Stella suddenly stood up, her chair falling backward.

She stared at Nicholas, her eyes red, but her voice unusually calm.

"You said you don't understand love, and now I believe you. You think everything you did was for my own good, but really, you just can't accept that I have someone else in my heart."

Stella's voice was soft, but it pierced Nicholas's heart like a knife, leaving him frozen in place, at a loss.

"You say you love me, but did you ever ask me? Did you ask what I wanted? You didn't. You just made decisions for me, chose my life for me. That's not love, that's possessiveness."

Nicholas opened his mouth but couldn't say a word.

Stella slowly sat back down, her tone weary.

"Thank you for helping me before. This time, I won't pursue charges. After you get out, let's not contact each other anymore."

After saying this, she stood up and hung up the phone directly.

Nicholas frantically pounded on the glass, his lips moving to say something, but Stella didn't look back.

She walked out of the visitation room. Sunlight poured down from the glass ceiling of the hall, stinging her eyes.

Stella took a deep breath, pulled out her phone, and dialed the number she thought she would never call again.

The phone was answered after just two rings, and Alexander's anxious voice came through.

"Stella, where are you?"

The moment Stella heard Alexander's voice, her heart skipped a beat, but she closed her eyes and tried to stay calm.

"Alexander, let's talk about the child."

In the coffee shop, Stella sat by the window with a glass of warm water in front of her.

She didn't order coffee or any stimulating drinks, as these would harm the child in her womb.

When Alexander arrived, she was looking down at her phone.

Sunlight fell on her profile, coating her in a thin layer of golden light.

He stood at the door, staring at her for several seconds before walking over.

"Stella."

Stella looked up and saw Alexander sit down across from her.

After a month, he had lost a lot of weight.

His jawline was sharper, and there were faint dark circles under his eyes, as if he hadn't had a good night's sleep in a long time.

"You've lost weight."

Before Stella could speak, Alexander spoke first.

Hearing this, Stella forced a smile.

"You're not doing much better yourself."

They looked at each other, and the atmosphere became somewhat awkward.

Alexander wanted to reach out and touch her, but Stella subtly pulled her hand back.

"Don't. I came to talk business today."

Stella's voice was flat, taking a business-like attitude.

Alexander's hand froze in mid-air, then slowly withdrew.

"Okay, go ahead."

Stella picked up her water glass and took a sip, organizing her thoughts.

After a long while, she finally faced Alexander and said, "I've looked into the child's condition. ABO hemolytic disease sounds scary, but with timely treatment, most children can grow up healthy. So I'm not going to give up on him."

Alexander's voice tightened, and he quickly interrupted her.

"I never asked you to give up either. Trust me, I never thought about not wanting this child."
