Chapter 93

Chapter 93

Alexander stood at the doorway and immediately saw what was happening on the operating table.

Stella was being held down by two nurses, her face pale, tear stains still visible at the corners of her eyes.

But she seemed completely indifferent to his arrival.

She just lay there quietly, motionless.

Alexander’s gaze locked onto the instruments in Dr. Wilson's grip, his pupils narrowing to pinpricks as a wave of pure, cold rage swept through him.

"What are you doing?"

Alexander’s voice was like ice, every word dripping with a lethal, chilling fury.

"Sir, this is not a place you should barge into. Please leave. We're performing surgery."

Dr. Wilson strode over and stretched out his arm to block Alexander.

Alexander didn't hesitate for a second. He lunged forward, seizing Dr. Wilson by the collar and sending him crashing to the floor with a violent shove.

Dr. Wilson let out a scream as the syringe flew from his hand and shattered on the floor.

The two nurses were also frightened by this scene. They immediately released Stella and backed away, their faces deathly pale.

Alexander didn't spare them a single glance. He simply bent down, his entire focus shifting to Stella.

Stella’s eyelids fluttered, her gaze losing its focus as her consciousness began to slip away into a low, incoherent mumble.

"No... the baby... my baby..."

Seeing her like this, Alexander's heart felt like it was being squeezed tight, the pain making it hard to breathe.

He had played out their reunion in his mind a thousand times, but not once had those fantasies taken place in an operating room.

Yet here it was, happening right now.

Alexander gently touched Stella's face, his voice terribly hoarse.

"Stella, don't be afraid. I'm here."

Stella caught the faint ghost of his voice and strained to find his face, but the world had already dissolved into a hopeless blur.

At last, her eyelids drifted shut, and the world went dark as she surrendered to total unconsciousness.

Alexander looked at the person in his arms, his eyes red.

He took off his coat and wrapped it around Stella, then lifted her horizontally and turned to leave.

Dr. Wilson struggled up from the floor, clutching his bruised waist, and gathered the courage to speak.

"Sir, you can't take her away. She's still in the middle of surgery..."

Met with the attempt to bar his way, Alexander came to a sudden, expectant halt.

"Surgery?"

He fixed his gaze on Dr. Wilson and let out a sharp, frigid laugh that seemed to drop the temperature in the room.

"You call this surgery? Forcibly giving a pregnant woman anesthesia and performing an induced abortion—is that surgery? That's murder."

Seeing that he already knew what had happened, Dr. Wilson's face turned deathly pale.

He opened his mouth but couldn't say a word.

Just then, hurried footsteps came from the hallway.

Several police officers burst into the room, led by an officer who flashed his badge with practiced authority.
"We received a report that someone here is involved in illegal medical procedures. Please cooperate with the investigation."

The moment they entered, Dr. Wilson’s knees buckled, and he crumpled to the floor as if the strength had been vacuumed right out of him.
The two nurses were also scared and trembling, huddling together and crying.

Alexander didn't spare them another glance and walked straight out of the operating room carrying Stella.

Even when he saw Arthur standing in the hallway, his expression wasn't much better.

"Arthur, thanks."

Alexander nodded at him and expressed his gratitude.

He had asked Arthur to call the police.

By the time he reached the hospital, he had already set every piece of his plan into motion.

Whatever the reason for Stella being on that table, Alexander wouldn't rest until every person involved paid a heavy price.

Arthur shook his head and sighed.

"Don't say that. It's what I should do. Take her away quickly and get her checked at another hospital right away. I'll handle things here."

Alexander nodded and strode toward the elevator carrying Stella.

The elevator doors opened, and Alexander walked in with Stella.

Bystanders in the hallway turned their heads to watch, their quiet whispers creating a low, frantic hum of speculation.

Alexander didn't spare a glance for the crowd; his eyes were fixed solely on the unconscious woman he held close to his chest.

Stella's face was still pale, her brows tightly furrowed. Even unconscious, her hand instinctively protected her belly.

Seeing this, a wave of bitterness surged in Alexander's heart, and he held her tighter and tighter.

The moment he stepped into the lobby, he was met with the sight of several police cars idling at the entrance, surrounded by a growing crowd of curious onlookers.

Alexander frowned. He was about to leave through a side door when he caught sight of a familiar figure out of the corner of his eye.

It was Nicholas.

Nicholas was being escorted out from a side corridor, his arms pinned by two officers and his wrists locked in steel behind his back.

Though Stella was unconscious, her awareness seemed to be slowly returning.

The anesthesia dosage wasn't enough, so naturally her consciousness would return faster.

Stella’s eyelids fluttered open, heavy and strained. Through a thick, disorienting haze, she caught a fractured glimpse of Nicholas struggling against his restraints.

"Nicholas..."

She murmured, her voice almost inaudible.

Alexander’s focus hadn’t wavered from Stella for a second, allowing him to catch the sound the very instant it left her lips.
He stopped and looked down at Stella.

"Stella? You're awake?"

Stella didn't answer his question. She just stared in Nicholas's direction, her eyes becoming clearer.

The anesthesia still clung to her senses, leaving her limbs heavy and frail, yet the fog in her mind had finally begun to lift.
"Let him go..."

Stella fought to pull away, her movements weak and uncoordinated, but Alexander’s grip only tightened as a sharp frown deepened across his features.

"Don't move. Your body is still very weak."

"Let me go!"

Stella's voice suddenly rose, with a touch of hysteria.

Alexander was afraid of hurting her, so he could only carefully set her down.

The moment Stella’s feet met the floor, her knees buckled, but Alexander’s arms were there instantly to sweep her back from the brink of a fall.

"Stella, don't move around..."

Stella gently brushed aside Alexander’s steadying hand and, despite her unsteady footing, stumbled toward Nicholas with single-minded focus.

"Why are you arresting him?"

She stood in front of Nicholas, her voice hoarse.

The officers holding Nicholas exchanged glances, and the one in charge spoke in an official tone.

"Madam, Nicholas is suspected of conspiring with a doctor, falsifying a medical plan, and attempting to perform an illegal surgery on you. We have sufficient evidence and need to take him in for questioning."

Stella froze.

She turned to face Nicholas, her eyes wide with a mix of shock and betrayal, while her voice shook with an uncontrollable tremor.

"Nicholas, what are they talking about? Conspiring with a doctor? Illegal surgery?"

She fired off a series of questions, her voice shaking more and more.

Nicholas kept his head down, not daring to meet her eyes.

"Say something!"

Stella’s voice cracked, thick with unshed tears, as she lashed out and demanded the truth.

"What's going on? Didn't you tell me it was a surgery to save the pregnancy? Didn't you say Dr. Wilson had a way to cure the baby? Tell me, what's going on?!"

Under the weight of her desperate questions, Nicholas finally raised his head to meet her eyes.

His eyes were red, his lips trembling.

"Stella, I'm sorry..."

He spoke with a voice so jagged and hoarse it barely registered as a sound.

Stella swayed, her face as white as paper.

She looked deeply at Nicholas, the confusion in her eyes not yet faded, when the next second everything went black and she collapsed softly.
