Chapter 87

Chapter 87

"As a doctor, I really shouldn't be saying this—it goes against ethics and professional standards."

"But since Ms. Hall won't say anything about the child's father, the safest thing to do right now is to terminate the pregnancy. It definitely won't put her own health at risk."

His voice was soft, but it stirred up a storm in Nicholas's heart.

"This decision has to be made by you and Ms. Hall together."

"If that doesn't work, Ms. Hall could find the child's biological father to make the decision."

"Whatever you decide, Ms. Hall has to agree to it."

"Also, if you don't mind me saying, the child's father still doesn't know what's happened—that's pretty irresponsible."

"It's understandable that Ms. Hall is disappointed in him. Why not just terminate the pregnancy?"

"Terminate the pregnancy."

Nicholas muttered to himself.

From his expression, he was clearly tempted.

But he didn't speak. Instead, he slowly lowered his head.

The table was full of food, but Nicholas seemed not to see it. He had no appetite at all.

Should he really make Stella terminate the pregnancy?

When he first found out Stella was pregnant, his first reaction was jealousy—jealous some man had slept with Stella.

Next, he wanted to know who that man was. When he learned the child was Alexander's, Nicholas had the thought of making Stella terminate the pregnancy.

He had tried to bring it up with Stella, but she flatly refused.

In Stella's words, the child wasn't Alexander—it was innocent.

Even though this child had Alexander's blood, as long as Alexander didn't know the truth, he wouldn't stop Stella, and the child would have nothing to do with him.

To put it bluntly, the child was in Stella's belly. As the child's mother, before the child was born, she had every right to decide whether to keep it or not.

No one else besides her had the right to make that decision for Stella, so Nicholas stopped bringing it up.

But now, seeing that the child might not make it, if they could terminate the pregnancy, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing for Stella.

At least she wouldn't have to worry about this child in the future. She could start a new life without any burden.

"Dr. Wilson, I understand."

Nicholas nodded. "Thank you for being willing to meet me today and tell me all this."

"This meal is on me. Come on, let's eat."

The two exchanged pleasantries.

Nicholas ate while lost in thought.

Several times Dr. Wilson spoke to him, but he was distracted.

Two hours later, Nicholas returned to the hospital and entered the ward.

Stella was lying in bed, holding her phone, seemingly watching some short videos, laughing happily.

Seeing Nicholas return, Stella quickly sat up.

Nicholas walked over to stop her. "Don't move around. The doctor said you need to rest and not get out of bed."

"You're finally back."

Stella patted her chest. "You were gone so long, I thought something happened. Did you buy the things I asked for?"

"Yes."

Nicholas took out the items one by one. Nothing special—just some personal items.

They had come back to the country to save the child and hadn't prepared much, not planning to stay long.

After arriving at the hospital and getting tested, they found out about the hemolytic disease and had to stay at the hospital longer.

So they needed to prepare the things they would need all over again.

Stella gently stroked her belly. "The doctor came to check on me this afternoon and asked me what to do. I don't know what to do either."

She kept her head down, her tone dejected.

Nicholas paused slightly in organizing the items and looked up at Stella.

"Stella, would you be willing to hear my suggestion?"

Stella nodded. "Go ahead."

He walked over and sat down in front of Stella. "Why don't you terminate the pregnancy?"

"Why?"

Stella was stunned, very surprised. "Didn't you support me keeping the child before?"

"I also made it very clear to you that I won't let Alexander know about this child's existence."

"This is my child. I don't want him to leave me."

"Stella, the situation is different now."

Nicholas gripped Stella's arm tightly.

"I met Dr. Wilson tonight, and he told me that to cure the child's illness, the best way is to find the child's biological father."

"Have him donate blood to the child. Only this way can the child survive. There's no other good solution."

"Think it through. If you really do this, Alexander will know about this child's existence. Then he'll definitely take the child back and take you back too."

"You know what the Brown family's attitude toward you is. Can they accept you and the child's existence?"

"If you give birth to a boy, he'll be the Brown family's heir in the future."

"If you and Alexander can't be together, this child will be illegitimate, and you'll have no status."

"Do you think the Brown family will let a child like that be the heir? You have to think about the child's future."

It had to be said, Nicholas was considering all the practical issues.

If outsiders found out that Alexander's first child was born from a woman with no status, it would definitely cause talk. People would criticize them harshly, which would be very unfair to the child.

But then again, Stella really couldn't bear to part with it.

She clutched her clothes tightly and bit her lip. "Nicholas, I admit everything you're saying is right, but I just can't bear to part with it."

"When I was early in the pregnancy, I didn't think much of it, but now I can feel the baby moving. It's like a little fish swimming around—I can feel it very clearly."

"The doctor said that in a while, when the baby gets bigger, the movements will be even more obvious. This is a life. How can I take away a life?"

"Stella, you're confused!"

Nicholas tried hard to persuade her. "He hasn't been born yet. Although it's a life, it can't be called a person. Do you have the heart to let him be born and face gossip?"

"How will you explain his father to him? Or are you planning to hide it from Alexander forever and run away with him?"

"But even so, can you guarantee the Brown family will never know about his existence?"

"If the Brown family finds out, will you give the child back to them, or keep him yourself?"

"This is the Brown family's heir. Will they agree? These are all real factors. You have to think carefully."

Stella almost bit through her lip, her eyes full of conflict.

She had never thought about terminating this pregnancy, but she had never thought about letting Alexander know about it either.

A month ago when she left the country, she had already decided to cut ties with Alexander, never to see him again, to have nothing to do with each other until death.

But she never expected God to play such tricks on people. She had barely been abroad when the child was diagnosed with hemolytic disease.
