Chapter 86
Chapter 86
Alexander fixed an intense gaze on Nicholas's car, almost as if he were attempting to peer right through the window in order to uncover some hint of Stella's location directly from Nicholas.
Soon after, Nicholas drove away, and Alexander didn't hesitate for a second before following him.
He realized this wasn't entirely proper and might draw a lot of criticism, but when it came to discovering Stella's whereabouts, he didn't care about that in the slightest.
From start to finish, Alexander refused to believe that Stella could be so heartless—just leaving like that without any regard for their past relationship.
Even though he had never told Stella how he truly felt, he was certain she must have picked up on the fact that she meant something special to him.
Why would she just leave without any hesitation? It didn't make sense.
If he managed to locate Stella, this time he would have to seize the opportunity to be straightforward with her, to make her understand precisely how much she mattered to him.
Alexander believed that once he made things clear, Stella definitely wouldn't leave him again.
The night was hazy, and Nicholas wasn't driving very fast.
Alexander trailed along from a distance, moving very cautiously, worried that Nicholas might pick up on anything out of the ordinary.
Soon, Nicholas's car stopped in front of a restaurant.
Seeing it was a restaurant, Alexander felt his anger rising.
'Did he arrange to meet Stella here? This is outrageous!
It looks like Nicholas definitely knows where Stella is, but he's been hiding it from me, not saying anything, while secretly meeting with Stella behind my back. This is too much!'
Alexander got out of his car, about to rush straight in, but quickly stopped.
He noticed that Nicholas had already stepped inside the restaurant, yet instead of heading up to a private room, he made his way to a seat in the corner and took a place there.
Sitting across from him was another person, not a woman, but a man.
The man looked to be in his forties. As soon as he saw Nicholas arrive, he quickly stood up to greet him, and the two shook hands in a friendly manner.
This made it obvious that the two of them weren't close, and Nicholas was likely requesting some sort of assistance from him.
Alexander froze, and soon a wave of disappointment washed over him.
How could this be? Shouldn't Stella be here meeting Nicholas?
He had been prepared to burst in and carry Stella off, but the person who actually came into view was a man around forty years old.
'Then where's Stella? Isn't she here? Or did Stella really not come back?
Why is this happening? Is Stella really this heartless?'
For an instant, a torrent of different thoughts surged through Alexander's mind, leaving him unable to form a clear thought.
Inside the restaurant, after Nicholas and the man shook hands, they both sat down.
"Dr. Wilson, sorry I'm late."
Nicholas gave an apologetic smile. "I ran into a bit of traffic on the way, so I'm running a little late. I hope that's alright with you."
Dr. Wilson waved his hand. "I don't mind. I know Mr. Jackson is a busy man. It's not easy for you to find time to meet in your busy schedule."
"I'm just wondering what you wanted to see me about?"
At this topic, Nicholas's expression became noticeably more serious.
"Dr. Wilson, I won't hide it from you. I'm here about Stella."
"You mean Ms. Hall?"
Dr. Wilson thought for a moment and nodded. "Oh, her. So you already know what's going on."
"Yes."
Nicholas heaved a deep sigh. "I never imagined Stella would have such bad luck. The child she's carrying has a condition called hemolytic disease."
"I've already asked other doctors about it. To treat this condition, we need to find the baby's biological father, right?"
"That's correct."
Dr. Wilson gave a nod. "Exactly. As long as we locate the baby's real father, the condition is simple to manage."
"As you know, hemolytic disease occurs when the fetus and mother have incompatible blood types, so as long as the baby's father has a different blood type from the mother, the disease can be cured."
"Even if Ms. Hall hasn't gone through childbirth yet, the condition can still be treated, so she won't have to endure so much pain."
Dr. Wilson leaned forward slightly. "From what you're saying, have you already found the baby's father?"
"Where is he? When can he participate in the procedure?"
Nicholas's eyes lost a little of their light as he lowered his gaze. "Dr. Wilson, the reason I invited you here today is to find out whether there's another approach apart from this one."
He quickly added, "Without the baby's father's involvement, can we cure the hemolytic disease while also keeping Stella from suffering more?"
After Nicholas said this, even he felt it sounded absurd.
But he had no choice. He knew very well in his heart that Stella was carrying Alexander's baby.
Yet the relationship between Stella and Alexander had already broken down. She had even left the country in the past simply to put as much distance as possible between herself and Alexander and to sever all connections with him entirely.
Under these circumstances, if the baby's condition forced Stella to meet with Alexander, the two would inevitably become entangled again.
This wasn't what he wanted to see, and Stella didn't want any more involvement with Alexander either. That's why he had asked Dr. Wilson out, to see if there were any other good options.
But Dr. Wilson shook his head. "I won't hide it from you—hemolytic disease is very dangerous."
"Since the fetus has already been diagnosed with this condition, treatment should start early. The longer it's delayed, the more dangerous it becomes, and the mother will be in danger too."
"At present, besides finding the baby's biological father, there's no better solution."
"If possible, you should still try to find the baby's biological father. I think Ms. Hall would agree too."
"After all, he's the baby's father. Even if Ms. Hall doesn't want any other involvement with him, it's just about letting him help save the baby. Surely the biological father wouldn't refuse, right?"
Hearing this answer, Nicholas froze.
It seemed there really was no better option. Was this the only path left for Stella?
She had worked so hard to go abroad, finally cutting ties with the past.
She had believed she could make a clean new beginning, yet now, due to the baby's illness, she was forced to become connected with Alexander once more.
Dr. Wilson looked at Nicholas for a moment. "Actually, Ms. Hall could choose not to keep this baby."
Nicholas's head snapped up. "You mean?"
Dr. Wilson took a sip of his drink and lowered his voice. "Although neither you nor Ms. Hall have said it explicitly, I can sense that Ms. Hall and the baby's father don't seem to have a good relationship."
"Otherwise, with the baby in trouble, she wouldn't have gone this long without contacting him."
"Since they don't have much of a relationship anymore, this baby's existence is kind of pointless. If she terminated the pregnancy, it would solve everything once and for all."
He pushed up his glasses, his voice serious and professional.
