Chapter 8 Xander’s POV
Chapter Eight
Xander’s POV
I glanced at the “I'm sorry” note she left on my desk and the B-x file. Her handwriting was hardly legible,It was cute and childish.
I brought the note to my nose, it smelled like flowers, like the scent I got her for Christmas during one of my business trips.
The tiny note made me feel things I did not want to feel.
I rolled the note into a ball and glanced in the direction of the trash can, then I decided against it.
so I slid the note into my drawer.
How did she find the file?, I fought the urge to dial her number.
The office was silent, it felt empty, too empty without her.
If only it was this easy for her to apologize and tell me why she asked for a divorce.
She left again without saying goodbye. Why was she in so much hurry?.
Maybe she has a date with Daniel after work, a voice whispered in my head.
The image of Daniel and Bella holding hands and whispering in each other's ear haunted me.
I brought out my phone and dialed her number immediately.
“Hello sir,Good evening sir.”
“Where are you?”
“I'm…I'm at home sir.”
She was lying to me. I felt it deep down my bones.
“Where did you find the file?”
She hesitated a little before responding, “I misplaced it sir, so I retraced my steps and I found it.”
“You misplaced it?” I burst Into a dry chuckle.
“You misplaced a file as important as the B-x file?, How could you be so careless?. I ask you again Ms Reyes, do you want to run the company down?”
She stuttered,“No…no sir.”
“Then act right.” I hung up.
I could still feel my blood boiling, it wasn't enough. She needs to pay for making me feel this way.
Looks like Ms Reyes has a lot of free time. It's time to step things up a bit.
If she wants to continue working here, she has to earn it.
I do not tolerate laziness and complacency, I demand full service for my money's worth .
The next day she walked in looking tired as usual.
Her breath came out in heavy huff. Her shirt was buttoned the wrong way
She probably had a long night playing couple with Daniel.
I decided not to dwell too much on that thought because I broke the pen I was holding.
“Good morning sir, sorry I'm late.”
I ignored her greetings. Instead I dropped a tall pile of paper work right in front of her.
“It's time for work. Tell me Ms Reyes, what is my mantra?”
“The bus broke down.”
My voice lowered, “That is not the answer to my question.”
She swallowed, “Do not be late.”
“That's right, so mind explaining why you are…” I checked my watch. “15 mins late.”
“The bus broke down, so I had to walk down the road find a taxi.”
I smirked, ”Sure, you did. You're not going home today except you finish going through these paperwork.”
I pushed aside the paper work and made space for direct inspection from across my table.
Her face fell and her brows furrowed and I almost felt bad for her, almost.
I steeled my resolve and reminded myself that she wasn't as innocent as I knew her to be.
Our eyes met but she looked away immediately. She sank into her chair, rolled up her sleeves and dived straight into the paperwork.
Lunch break came and she did not stand up from that spot.
She seemed really determined to finish the files and to go home early to Daniel’s arm.
I guess Daniel was really important to her after all.
She wiped her eyes and dug her teeth into her bottom lip while twirling her hair with one hand. I hurriedly looked away.
Is she trying to seduce me?. I felt heat rise in my body, that was not the only thing
rising.
Only she could look sexy without trying, with her messy hair and dark circles, she still looked as beautiful as ever.
I needed to get away from her, so I pushed my chair backward and stood up.
She glanced in my direction, she opened her pretty mouth to say something, she hesitated and then decided against it.
Yeah, that's what I thought. No more breaks for you. No more time to play love or mummy and daddy with Daniel.
I left the office and took a walk around the block to clear my head.
Was I being too harsh on her?. I decided against it, it was better this way.
It was easier to be angry at her and Daniel.
My mind flashed back to the times we were married. She used to sit silently at the table during meal times.
She never went shopping like other Billionaires wives and she did not use the card I gave her.
She hated me, but I loved her in my own little way.
Anna gave me suggestions on how to express my feelings, I bought flowers and expensive gifts for her.
Oh well, look at where that got me.
It's been hours since I left Bella alone in the office, I decided to go and check up on her.
I noticed the silence in the office, no more clicking of the keyboard.
I found her resting her head in between the files, how dare she sleep on duty?
She looked even more beautiful while sleeping, a pen was stuck in her hair. Silly girl.
I pulled the pen out of her hair and tucked her hair behind her ear,
I stroked her cheek, it was soft, warm and inviting. Her breath fanned my hand.
How could she look so innocent yet dangerously capable of bringing a man down to his knees.
I brought my face closer and studied her features closely. Her lips were parted open a little, I could see her delicious pink tongue.
Something stirred in me when her lashes fluttered open.
