Chapter 150 A hidden Secret
Chapter 150 A hidden Secret
A hidden secret
Vivian’s POV
The moment Betty explained what she meant, my heart sank. A cold feeling settled in my stomach as everything suddenly made sense. This was the same kind of dark magic Ethan had been using from the beginning. It was the reason so many lives had been destroyed. The reason everything had fallen apart and the reason why Dylan is this way.
“We need to leave,” I said, grabbing Liam’s arm before he could say another word. “Now.”
For a second, he didn’t move.
He just stood there, staring at Betty like he was actually thinking about accepting her offer. That frightened me more than anything she’d said.
I forced a polite smile at Betty, muttered a quick thank you, and practically dragged Liam out of the warehouse before he could change his mind.
The cool air outside hit my face, but it did nothing to calm me.
“Get in the car,” I said as I hurried him toward the passenger side.
He climbed in without putting up much of a fight, but the distant look in his eyes told me his thoughts were still back inside that warehouse. He was seriously considering it, and that terrified me.
I got behind the wheel, started the engine, and pulled onto the road. The silence between us stretched for a while before I finally couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“Liam, you can’t do this,” I said, my voice shaking despite my effort to stay calm. “You can’t just throw your life away.”
He kept his eyes on the passing trees outside the window.
“I’m ready,” he said softly. “If giving up my life is what it takes to save Dylan, then I’ll do it.”
His words hit me like a punch to the chest.
“Don’t you ever say that again,” I snapped, gripping the steering wheel so tightly my fingers hurt. “Do you hear me? Never think like that. Dylan would never forgive himself if you died for him, and neither would I.”
He didn’t answer.
He simply looked out the window again, and the silence that followed was somehow even worse. I could tell he hadn’t changed his mind. He just wasn’t arguing anymore.
The rest of the drive felt endless. Every mile gave me more time to imagine everything that could go wrong if Liam decided to go back to Betty. By the time we reached the house, my nerves were stretched so thin I felt like I might break.
I barely had time to park before the front door swung open.
Rosalie was already waiting for us.
She stood on the front steps with her arms crossed tightly over her chest, her expression hard enough to make both of us stop in our tracks. The disappointment in her eyes was impossible to miss.
“Where have you two been?” she demanded before either of us had even stepped out of the car.
Liam and I exchanged a nervous look before I took a deep breath and started explaining. The words came out in a rush as I told Rosalie about our visit to Betty, why we had gone there, and what she had offered us. I hoped that once she understood we were only trying to find a way to save Dylan, she’d calm down.
She didn’t. She didn’t even let me finish.
“You went against my orders,” she said, her voice rising with every word. “Do you both have any idea what could have happened? You ignored everything I told you, so now you’ll be treated the same way you’ve treated me.”
“Rosalie, please,” I said, taking a step toward her. “We weren’t trying to betray you. We were desperate. We just wanted to help Dylan.”
She didn’t even look at me.
Instead, she called for the guards.
Within minutes, they appeared and separated Liam and me before either of us could protest. One guard led Liam down one hallway while another escorted me in the opposite direction. Rosalie watched us without saying another word before turning and walking away, leaving both of us to deal with the consequences of our mistake.
The door to my room shut behind me with a heavy click.
I sat on the edge of the bed, letting out a long breath as I replayed everything that had happened. The more I thought about it, the less any of it made sense.
Rosalie had every right to be angry. We had disobeyed her. But something about her reaction felt… different.
It wasn’t just anger. It was fear.
She had reacted so quickly, so fiercely, that it almost felt like she wasn’t simply trying to protect us. It was as if she was hiding a secret she couldn’t afford to let anyone uncover.
Ever since becoming a vampire, I’d started seeing the world differently. Things I would have ignored before now stood out to me, and my instincts had become much sharper.
The more I thought about everything Rosalie had said, the more convinced I became that there were parts of this story she was keeping from us.
Maybe Betty wasn’t telling the whole truth.
But maybe Rosalie wasn’t either.
And somewhere between the two of them was the answer Liam had been searching for all this time.
The next morning, I refused to leave my room.
One maid after another knocked gently on the door, reminding me that breakfast was ready and that Rosalie expected everyone downstairs. I ignored every knock and buried myself deeper beneath the blankets. I wasn’t hungry, and I wasn’t ready to face anyone.
Eventually, the voices outside faded, and silence settled over the hallway.
Then I heard footsteps.
They were heavier than the soft footsteps of the maids, slow and steady, each one echoing through the hallway. Whoever it was wasn’t wandering around. They were coming straight to my room.
My heart began to pound.
I pushed the blankets aside and sat upright, listening as the footsteps grew louder. They stopped just outside my door.
A wave of panic rushed through me.
Without thinking, I jumped off the bed and hurried to the window. My fingers reached for the latch, ready to climb out before whoever was outside could come in.
Then a familiar voice stopped me.
“Vivian.”
It was Rosalie.
She was standing on the other side of the door, calling my name.
