Chapter 183 Sophie Mocks Dennis for Being Poor
Michael never expected Lily would actually sue.
Lily just found it amusing. "When you do something wrong, you should pay the price. I didn't force Sophie to steal my stuff."
Michael gave a bitter smile. "Even if you want to sue her, you can't even get a good lawyer right now. Why humiliate yourself?"
Dennis said coldly, "We'll see when the court opens."
The lawyer he personally hired would definitely win.
After Dennis finished speaking, he directly took Lily's hand. "I'm hungry. You still owe me a meal!"
Lily didn't argue and walked away with him.
Michael didn't follow. Only then did she ask Dennis, "When did I owe you one?"
"Last time with the car accident, remember?" Dennis reminded her.
Lily remembered. That time, Dennis almost got hurt because of her, and she did say she'd treat him to a meal after he recovered.
She said, "I remember now. That did happen."
"At least you remember."
Lily thought for a moment. "So what do you want to eat?"
Dennis locked his gaze on her. "You'll agree to anything I want to eat?"
She felt his gaze was a bit different.
Then she thought it was just her imagination. Dennis had always been good at hiding his feelings.
Lily spread her hands. "I'm pretty broke right now, so nothing too expensive."
"What do you usually like to eat?"
"I heard there's a new home-style restaurant near campus. They say it's pretty good. Want to go?"
Dennis nodded gracefully. "I want a private room."
Well, quite demanding.
But Dennis had always liked quiet places and was a bit of a germaphobe.
Lily called ahead to reserve a private room, and then the two walked there together, side by side, keeping an arm's distance between them.
Lily followed the navigation for a while and found the location it provided was wrong.
She stood still, checking the map.
Dennis walked to her side. "Lost, little turtle?"
"The navigation is off."
"You just don't know how to read it. Give it to me."
Dennis took the phone from her hand, glanced around, then closed the navigation. "Follow me."
"Without looking at the navigation, can you remember?"
"Remembering a route isn't hard. Just follow me, lost lamb."
Lily poked his lower back. "Stop giving me random nicknames."
Slowpoke turtle, lost lamb.
Dennis gasped, his gaze deepening. "Don't randomly touch a man's waist."
"What, are you ticklish?" Lily poked him again. This time, Dennis grabbed her hand. "Touch me again, and you'll have to take responsibility."
She met his deep gaze, then lowered her head. "I wasn't touching, just poking."
Her voice got quieter.
Dennis released her hand and continued walking, though his mood wasn't as calm as it appeared.
Lily followed behind him. After turning the corner, they arrived at the home-style restaurant.
The two walked in and went to their private room.
The owner came in personally with the menu. "It's busy today with lots of people. Sorry for any poor service. Take a look at what you'd like to eat."
After Dennis sat down, he didn't take the menu but looked directly at Lily.
The owner handed the menu to Lily. "Your boyfriend is so considerate. The lady should order. I've been so busy I'm dizzy."
Lily took the menu before she could explain, but the owner had already left.
She glanced at him. "What do you want to eat?"
"I'll eat whatever you're having."
Lily knew some of his preferences and ordered a few dishes, including some specialties.
The private room became quiet again.
While Lily was looking at her phone, she kept feeling Dennis was watching her. His gaze was impossible to ignore.
She looked up and met his eyes.
She didn't speak, and neither did he.
"What are you looking at?" Dennis asked.
Lily turned her head to look at him. "You're so good-looking, can't I look?"
Dennis narrowed his eyes. "Are you insulting me in a roundabout way?"
'Good-looking'? That's what you'd say about a painting.
"No, you're quite handsome."
"Am I your type?"
Hearing this, Lily lost her grip on her fork, and it fell to the floor. She bent down in a panic to pick it up.
Had he noticed something?
Or was he doing this on purpose?
Lily picked up the fork, but he took it away and placed his fork in front of her.
Dennis got himself a new one.
Lily didn't answer his question, and he didn't press further, as if he'd never said it.
Dennis glanced at her. She was looking down at her phone.
He admitted he'd done that on purpose just now.
She'd been getting too close to Mark.
Dennis was about to speak when the server came in with the food.
When Lily saw the food, she immediately felt hungry and picked up her fork to eat.
Seeing her eat, Dennis didn't say anything, but he noticed the dishes served were ordered according to his preferences.
The two ate quietly.
After Lily was full, she finally stopped, her mood had improved.
Only then did she notice Dennis had finished eating at some point and was watching her, his gaze calm and frank.
Lily felt a bit embarrassed instead. "Why are you looking at me?"
She grabbed a napkin and wiped the corners of her mouth, though there was nothing there.
Dennis's hand rested on the table. "Feeling better?"
"Much better."
"The question you asked Mark, I can answer it for you."
Lily's hand paused. She looked at Dennis.
Her gaze held anticipation, but also some anxiety.
Dennis glanced at her expression, then said, "His family has never approved of him playing games, especially his mother. If there's one person who would make him quit the competition, it would only be his mother."
He had never thought about making Mark withdraw from the competition!
Lily was stunned. Mark's mother?
Wouldn't that be the wealthy Mrs. Gonzalez?
That probably wasn't it. She must have guessed wrong.
"Disappointed?" Dennis caught the obvious disappointment on Lily's face.
Lily shook her head. "No. It's getting late, let's go."
Dennis stood up, his gaze falling on her. "Do you want to win the competition that badly?"
"No matter how much I want to win, I wouldn't use those kinds of tactics," Lily explained.
Dennis thought so too, but it seemed strange that Lily would ask that question.
He didn't press further.
The two came to the counter, and Dennis directly scanned to pay.
Lily was a step too slow. "Didn't we agree I was treating?"
"You're treating, I'm paying."
Dennis didn't think there was anything wrong with that at all.
The owner smiled and said, "Your boyfriend should pay anyway. It's only right."
A handsome man and a beautiful woman, a perfect match.
Dennis looked down to pay, seemingly with no intention of explaining.
Lily couldn't help but look at the owner. Just as she was about to speak, someone called her name. "Lily, is that really you?"
Sophie walked in and glanced at the two of them.
Her tone was smug. "You're on a date at this kind of restaurant? That's pretty shabby. My boyfriend Ethan is taking me to The Velvet Vine. That's a place only people with status can eat at. Just the membership requires a deposit of one million dollars."
Lily paused. The Velvet Vine?
That sounded a bit familiar.
She turned her head to glance at Dennis.
