Chapter 182: Who Is Jealous After All?
Mark answered defiantly, "Lily didn't say anything, so I’m not going to say anything either!"
He'd been outsmarted by Dennis again.
This was too much—it had been like this since childhood!
Dennis's tone wasn't great. "My patience is limited!"
"Dennis, am I really your brother? I must be someone you picked up from the trash."
"Good that you know."
Mark was furious. "I don't care, I am your real brother. If you're so capable, go make Lily tell you!"
After saying this, Mark hung up in a huff. Always picking on him!
Dennis called several times, but Mark didn't answer.
Annoyed, he rubbed his temples and sent a message: "All grown up now, learning to defy me, huh?"
You brat!
Could Mark have said something he shouldn't have and made Lily suspicious of his identity?
Dennis felt a tightness in his chest.
But from what Mark said, it didn't quite seem like it.
He changed clothes and came outside to see Lily sitting alone on the ground in a daze, all by herself, looking lonely.
Dennis looked at her, feeling a bit sorry.
He walked straight over and tossed the boxing gloves, which landed on Lily.
Lily got hit and turned around to see Dennis raising his eyebrows with a smirk.
He had that infuriating look on his face.
She stood up. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?"
"Obviously not on purpose. Did you see me throw it? It rolled over by itself."
"You think I'd believe that?"
Lily had been thinking about what Mark said earlier, lost in gloomy thoughts, but after getting hit like that, she was just angry now.
Dennis picked up the boxing gloves. "If you're not satisfied, let's go a few rounds."
Lily bit her lip and walked over, noticing the bandage still on his shoulder, right where it was before.
Dennis followed her gaze. "Don't worry, I'm keeping it safe for you."
Could this guy ever talk normally?
Lily threw a punch directly at him—a successful sneak attack.
She smiled and stepped back two paces. "Who told you not to pay attention?"
Dennis touched his chin, his eyes locked on her. "That was too weakand needs improvement."
Lily refused to accept this and charged right at him.
The two went back and forth in the boxing ring.
Dennis's voice was lazy. "Too slow. Is your reaction time that long? There's an opening here. Use your brain, don't just use brute force! Too soft, put some strength into it. Didn't you eat?"
Lily was about to die of frustration.
When he said she was too slow, she sped up.
Then he said she had openings and shouldn't use brute force.
After she started thinking more, he said her strength wasn't enough, and she needed more force.
Why was his mouth so vicious?
Lily finally collapsed on the ground, exhausted. "I can't go on."
Dennis looked down at her. "Being tired is the point."
Too tired to overthink things.
Dennis brought over a clean towel and handed it to her. Lily was too exhausted to even lift her arms, so she didn't move.
Dennis sat beside her and wiped the sweat from her face for her, so she wouldn't be uncomfortable.
Lily felt his touch, and her heartbeat immediately went off-rhythm.
She took the towel. "I'll do it myself."
Dennis didn't say anything. He placed two bottles of water nearby—he was actually a bit tired, too.
Lily had improved quite a bit recently, and her strength was greater than most girls.
Cameron was right—she did have talent.
Lily wiped away the sweat, feeling much more relaxed. She was too tired to think about anything.
The two sat quietly together as the sunset came through—it was beautiful.
Dennis saw she had calmed down. "What did Mark tell you?"
"How did you know?" Lily looked at him in surprise, feeling a bit anxious. Had Dennis noticed something?
She knew Dennis was always sharp. It wouldn't be easy to hide things from him.
At this moment, Dennis was equally anxious.
Because he didn't know what Mark had actually told Lily.
Dennis calmed down. "Don't take what he says to heart."
"I know." Lily was much calmer now. She took a sip of water. "I just asked him a question, but he didn't answer me at all."
"What did you ask?" Dennis's breathing tightened. Even when negotiating business deals, he'd never been this nervous.
Lily glanced at him, somewhat hesitant.
But thinking that he also knew Mark and seemed to have a good relationship with him, maybe Dennis would know the answer?
Mark must have withdrawn from the finals because of someone very important.
Dennis looked at her directly. "You don't trust me?"
"No, but it's not really important. I just asked him if there was anyone who could make him withdraw from the finals."
After saying this, Lily also felt her question was a bit inappropriate.
How was Mark supposed to answer that?
After hearing this, Dennis also found it strange. "Why are you asking that?"
"Just asking." Lily didn't dare tell the truth.
Dennis remembered what Mark had said earlier—no wonder he came to ask him.
He said with a half-smile, "You're not trying to find out Mark's weakness so you can make him withdraw from next year's competition, are you?"
"What are you talking about? Is that the kind of person I am?" Lily hadn't thought of that at all.
She would never use such tactics. Competitions were about skill—win or lose fair and square!
What kind of achievement would it be to win a competition using such methods?
But seeing Dennis's expression, she realized Mark must have misunderstood, too.
"Then why are you asking this? And why did it put you in such a bad mood?" Dennis thought about Lily standing with Mark on competition day, and felt inexplicably uncomfortable.
Lily wanted to explain, but if she said that wasn't what she meant, she had no way to give the real reason.
She paused. "Okay, I admit I was testing the waters a bit."
At this moment, she could only answer like this.
Dennis studied her for a while, feeling she wasn't telling the truth.
He spoke up. "You seem very curious about Mark?"
Lily nodded. "A little bit."
She'd thought that to figure out if Mark was that person from her past life, she'd definitely need to interact with him more to judge.
Dennis gripped the water bottle tightly, his gaze deep. "He's just a mischievous kid."
"But he's still two years older than me. We're all adults—what kid! Are you trying to age yourself?"
Dennis couldn't help pinching her cheek. "Who are you calling old?"
Lily rubbed her face. "Whoever admits it is who I'm talking about."
She glanced at Dennis's face. Actually, he wasn't old at all—very young, very handsome, and in great shape too.
Looking at Dennis in front of her, Lily felt their interaction was somewhat ambiguous.
She stood up directly. "I'll go change clothes first."
She quickly left the scene, patting her own face. She couldn't overthink this.
After showering and changing, Lily came out to see him leaning against the wall, his figure tall and attractive.
The two left the gym together, walking side by side toward Quest University, their shadows very close together.
Michael called out loudly, "Lily."
Michael's car stopped by the roadside. He hurried out of the car, his expression not good.
Lily frowned directly, not wanting to deal with him.
But Michael didn't give up. "Lily, I heard David has been pulling strings in legal circles to make things difficult for you."
Lily raised her eyelids. "So?"
"Lily, the Roberts family lost their bidding qualification and suffered heavy losses. David is furious, too. If you wanted to get revenge on the Roberts family, you've already achieved your goal. Why must you press charges and take it to court?" Michael said slowly.
