Chapter 18 She Shocked Everyone
Lily's move was devastating.
She took out two opponents instantly and severely injured another.
When Lily landed, she glanced at Austin, who was lying on the ground, barely hanging on.
Austin stared at the game screen, his mind reeling with shock and disbelief.
He knew Lily had talent, but he never expected her to be this good!
No, Lily wasn't this good before. When did she get so strong?
When he was captured earlier, he was sure they were going to lose this match.
But after Lily appeared, with her agile movements and sharp awareness, she stabilized the situation.
She even turned the tables and executed King's ultimate move—the twelve-hit combo!
Austin felt like he never really knew Lily.
Lily had become a stranger to him.
He suddenly felt a pang of unease, as if he might lose Lily somehow.
Austin hesitated for a moment before speaking, "Lily,"
Lily walked right past him, speaking into her headset, "Everyone else, report your positions and status. I'm on my way."
Austin was left standing there alone, only able to see the cool, confident figure of Lily in the game.
He couldn't help but glance at Lily again, but she was completely absorbed in the computer screen, her focus captivating.
Michael, standing nearby, spoke up, "Austin, what are you daydreaming about?"
Austin snapped back to reality and hurried to catch up.
When he reached the lower level, he saw Lily leading the rest of the team in a fierce attack.
Lily's gunner was operating with skill and style; her movements and controls were top-notch.
It was a stark contrast to Sophie's clumsy attempts.
This was the gunner he had always hoped for!
In the end, it was Lily who made it happen.
Austin's emotions were a jumble; he didn't know what to feel.
The game he valued most was won thanks to Lily, the sister he had always underestimated!
He had never experienced this kind of disparity before.
The match ended quickly.
Lily, as the gunner, stood on the devastated street, bathed in the setting sun, basking in the victory.
The commentator paused for a few seconds before announcing, "The match is over. Titan Team wins! The substitute player was incredible. Could she be King's apprentice?"
The crowd erupted, and fans started chanting King's name.
When Lily heard that name, she was momentarily dazed.
In her past life, it was that person who taught her the twelve-hit combo.
She had always wondered about his connection to King, but he never admitted anything.
She had never seen him.
But King had never revealed his true identity; no one knew what he looked like.
Lily took off her headset, and as she stood up, the cheers of victory filled her ears.
She smiled, finally able to force that person who had disrespected their parents to apologize publicly!
Michael was the first to approach her, his face lit with excitement. "Lily, you were amazing out there! It's your hard work that led the Roberts family to this victory. I knew you were secretly practicing even though you wouldn't join the team officially, right?"
Michael was thrilled. It turned out Lily hadn't changed.
They were still a family.
Lily's smile faded as she listened to his words.
She felt a bit disappointed.
She looked at the captain of the Mountain Team. "You lost!"
The captain looked at Lily with a complicated expression. "Who are you?"
Michael proudly said, "She's my sister."
"But wasn't your sister the one who played terribly? When did the Roberts family get another daughter?"
Michael's face stiffened. "That was our adopted sister. Lily's our real sister."
"You guys at Titan Team really know how to play the game. You sent a weak fake sister to confuse us and kept your real sister, the secret weapon, hidden. You caught us off guard."
Austin's expression almost cracked when he heard that.
He couldn't believe Lily was this good!
The Mountain Team's captain walked up to Lily. "But I admit defeat. You're really impressive."
The twelve-hit combo wasn't something just anyone could learn.
Since King retired, no one had mastered it until this girl.
Lily's expression was calm. "You need to keep your promise."
"Alright. During the match, I said some things I shouldn't have about your parents. That was wrong of me, and I apologize."
Lily nodded. "Watch your mouth next time."
But Austin spoke up, "Is that it?"
Lily looked at him, surprised.
The Mountain Team's captain sneered. "What's it to you? Your sister beat us. If you're not good enough, just shut up!"
Seeing another argument brewing, Michael quickly restrained Austin to avoid any trouble.
The match ended, and the crowd dispersed.
Lily went backstage and saw Sophie, her face streaked with tears and her eyes red.
The atmosphere turned awkward.
Sophie looked up timidly, her big eyes filled with tears, looking pitiful.
Anyone who saw her like this would feel a bit sympathetic.
Lily's eyes were cold. She knew Sophie was playing the pity card, a tactic she had used countless times since they were kids.
Sophie weakly called out, "Austin, it's all my fault. I shouldn't have left the match out of stubbornness."
She had felt embarrassed and wanted Austin to comfort her, thinking he had no choice but to continue the match with her.
But she hadn't expected Lily to step in and win the match beautifully.
Sophie knew things were bad. She had to salvage her image in Austin's eyes.
Austin, with a stern face, said, "You know you shouldn't have left. If it weren't for Lily, what would have happened to the match?"
Sophie cried, "It's all my fault. I shouldn't have been so sensitive. I was just so afraid of failing that I did something so stupid. It won't happen again."
As Sophie cried, the other team members spoke up, "Austin, she already apologized. Don't be so harsh."
"Yeah, Austin, we won the match. If Sophie hadn't left, the substitute wouldn't have had a chance. How else would we have won?"
Austin felt that familiar sense of powerlessness.
Frustration!
Michael turned to Lily. "What do you think?"
Lily was surprised that Michael asked her.
She said, "I think if Sophie apologized, what more do you want? Austin, you're being too petty. Sophie's grades have already dropped because of this match. How can you not appreciate her effort?"
Sophie secretly gritted her teeth. Lily was clearly trying to drive a wedge between her and Austin!
She had become so difficult to deal with!
Austin was furious. "Lily, you're doing this on purpose, aren't you?"
Lily smiled inwardly. Yes, she was doing it on purpose.
She had been treated like this countless times.
'Austin, you can't handle it after just one time?' She thought.
Lily turned to leave, but Michael stopped her. "Lily, I formally invite you to join the team! From now on, we'll face everything together as a family. Let's put the past behind us!"
Her smile turned colder.
