Chapter 17 Lily is Both Cool and Awesome
Lily stood in the hallway, staring at Austin, both of them unsure of what to say.
Austin, trying to save face, spoke first, "You came to laugh at us, huh? Is it funny? Watching our family team get mocked, are you satisfied now?"
Lily's face remained cold, "It's because you're not as skilled."
Just then, members of the Mountain Team arrived backstage.
Lily looked at their rude captain from earlier, "I have a question for you. Are you an orphan? No parents?"
The Mountain Team captain's expression darkened, "What do you mean?"
"Exactly what I said. With a mouth like yours, I thought maybe your parents passed away early and no one taught you manners." Lily retorted.
"You jerk, say that again if you dare!"
Lily's words had clearly enraged him.
She spoke coldly, "In the next match, if you lose, you have to publicly apologize in front of the reporters for insulting my parents!"
"We lose? You're dreaming!"
"What's wrong? Afraid to agree? Feeling guilty?"
Provoked by Lily, the captain took the bait, "Fine, but if you lose, your captain has to publicly apologize for what you just said!"
The Mountain Team left in a huff.
Lily remained calm, knowing how to win.
However, the atmosphere within the Titan Team grew awkward.
Austin snapped, "If we lose, you'll apologize yourself. You're not even part of the team. Who gave you the right to make decisions?"
"I just want that guy to apologize publicly, nothing more."
As soon as Lily finished speaking, Michael rushed over, "Lily, it's good to see you here. Our family can finally be whole again."
Lily pressed her lips together, not speaking.
Michael looked around, "Where's Sophie?"
Austin's face stiffened, "No idea, she ran off after a few harsh words."
The other team members spoke up, "Austin, Sophie just wants to win so badly. You can't blame her for being anxious."
"Yeah, Austin, Sophie works so hard, staying up late to train. She's really putting in the effort."
"Austin, what you said was a bit too much."
Austin felt frustrated.
What do they mean he was too much?
Sophie insisted on joining the team. Without talent, she had to put in a lot of effort.
She made a mistake earlier, and as captain, shouldn't he be able to say something?
Lily chimed in, "Exactly. Sophie is working so hard, even sacrificing her study time. How could you yell at her? You're just about to lose a game, but Sophie lost her dignity."
Austin was fuming.
What was this?
Why did everyone think it was his fault? It was clearly Sophie who was being unreasonable!
Michael also looked at Austin, "Austin, you need to work on your temper. Lily used to treat you so well, and you drove her away with your harsh words. Do you want to do the same to Sophie?"
"Michael, this is different. Sophie..."
"Enough, I watched the livestream. It was you who led everyone into a trap. As captain, you should take responsibility. Sophie was just too anxious."
Austin felt a wave of helplessness.
No matter what he said, Michael wouldn't believe him!
Lily watched coldly from the side.
Finally, Austin was experiencing what she had gone through—being wronged, misunderstood, and unable to defend herself.
Michael tried calling Sophie, but she didn't pick up.
He spoke, "Let's not worry about her for now. We need to talk about the match."
Lily chimed in, "If we want to win this match, everyone has to follow my plan."
Austin was quick to object, "Why should we?"
Lily's eyes were intense, "Because I know how to win."
Lily stayed remarkably calm as she laid out her strategy.
She had watched the match earlier and had a solid understanding of the Titan Team members. They had trained together before, so she knew their strengths and weaknesses.
"Anyone can talk big. Don't think you're a genius just because you have some talent. You haven't been training at all lately. How can you guarantee a win?"
Lily pressed her lips together, "If you don't follow my lead, I'll quit the match."
Austin scoffed, "Quit then. Do you think you're that important?"
Michael quickly interjected, "If no one else has a better plan, let's follow Lily's lead."
Austin, despite his reluctance, couldn't argue. They really had no other options.
The match resumed quickly.
Lily took Sophie's seat.
This was her spot in her previous life.
When she put on the headset again, her eyes became more determined. This time, she wasn't fighting to please Austin.
She was fighting for herself.
The temporary switch in the Titan Team caused a small stir.
Dennis stood by the second-floor window, watching the serious girl in the match.
Eric commented, "Didn't you say she came to watch the show? In the end, she joined the match. To her, family is still more important despite the favoritism."
"You're wrong. She's doing this for herself now."
Dennis understood her reason for joining the match.
It was definitely not to please Austin.
Her brilliance now belonged to her alone.
The match began, and the commentator started, "Titan Team had a little hiccup and made some adjustments. This player looks unfamiliar. How strong are they? Titan Team is in a tough spot. How will they break through?"
Lily entered the game. Sophie's character was the same profession she used to play—a long-range gunner.
So she quickly got the hang of it.
Lily had set up a plan, waiting for the enemy to attack.
But at a critical moment, Austin suddenly charged out, exposing their position.
Lily cursed under her breath, "What are you doing?"
"Don't worry about me. I can break through on my own!"
Austin ran out, unwilling to accept defeat and wanting to prove himself, only to be pinned down by the enemy.
Lily wasn't surprised at all.
She quickly instructed, "Support, cover me. Everyone else, stick to the plan."
She dashed out from behind the wall, wielding a cannon, and fired at the enemy.
Her movements were fluid, attacking and disrupting the enemy's rhythm.
The commentator got excited, "Wow, this gunner's skills are impressive! The moves are so practiced, definitely not a newbie. More like a seasoned player."
"She suddenly stopped, dodging the enemy's ultimate attack! How did she predict that?"
"Look, she charged out, jumping and landing twelve consecutive hits! This is a move only the legendary player King could pull off. How can a newbie suddenly perform at this level? It's incredible!"
The crowd erupted, the atmosphere electric!
King was a god in everyone's eyes.
Even though King retired years ago, his legend lived on.
What was the relationship between this new girl and King?
