Chapter 174: Lily, Can You Forgive Me Once?
David was backed against the wall by Lily with no way out.
He guiltily pushed Lily's hand away, "Stop being so sarcastic. I didn't know anything about the plagiarism."
"Mr. Roberts, are you trying to distance yourself from this?"
"I'm not trying to distance myself from anything!" David's eyes were bloodshot, his emotions running high, as if she'd hit a nerve.
Sophie stepped forward to support David, "Lily, after you threw David over your shoulder last time, he fractured his ribs, and they still haven't healed. Don't go too far."
Lily thought to herself: 'So you're here to play the martyr!'
Lily said coldly, "Then go to jail. That'll solve everything."
Sophie nearly choked. How could she possibly go to jail!
She just wanted to show off in front of David.
The next second, Sophie looked up at Austin directly, "Austin, you don't need to feel bad. I know it's all my fault. I'll go to jail; it has nothing to do with you."
If someone had to take responsibility, it could only be Austin.
David immediately spoke up, "No, you can't go."
"Then, David, are you saying you'll go?"
David was instantly speechless, just looking at Austin.
The atmosphere became very awkward.
Austin gave a bitter smile. He finally understood what it felt like to be backstabbed.
Was this everything Lily had experienced before?
After a long pause, Austin spoke in a hoarse voice, "I'll go. Stop arguing."
He had brought this on himself.
He was wrong to trust Sophie. He deserved to be punished.
Sophie was delighted to hear Austin's words and instantly felt relieved.
She said insincerely, "Austin, how can we let you go to jail? It's all my fault, I dragged you into this."
"Sophie, don't say that. It's not your fault."
David patted Sophie's shoulder, "Don't cry. We, the Roberts family, value loyalty."
Lily nodded, "Yeah, why cry? Someone's taking the fall for you. That's a good thing."
"I just feel bad, I can't help it."
Sophie was still pretending, but Lily called her out, "Since you feel so bad, why don't you go instead?"
Sophie couldn't even cry anymore and just looked down without speaking.
She didn't want to go to jail. She still wanted to marry into the wealthy Murphy family and become a rich wife.
David saw Sophie looking down and felt inexplicably irritated, "Lily, are you satisfied now?"
Lily sneered.
She turned to look at Austin, "Congratulations on making such a great sacrifice for your blood-is-thicker-than-water family."
This was called getting what you deserve.
Austin looked up, his eyes red.
He saw Lily holding that trophy and was momentarily dazed, "Is that the championship trophy?"
"Yes."
Lily walked up to Austin and showed him the trophy, "You know, if I had stayed on Titan Team, we might have had a chance to compete for this trophy.
But unfortunately, you brought that idiot Sophie, and you couldn't even pass the preliminaries. You only made it through the revival round because of me."
Austin looked at the gold trophy and wanted to reach out and touch it.
But Lily pulled the trophy to her chest and said flatly, "It's not yours. Don't touch it."
Austin's hand hung in the air. He awkwardly pulled it back.
He looked at Lily with a complicated expression, "If I hadn't let Sophie join the team back then, and hadn't been so biased and harsh to you, would you still have quit the team?"
"There's no medicine for regret in this world, and no what-ifs."
Lily touched the trophy. This time, no one from the Roberts family would get this trophy!
She turned and walked away.
"Lily, stop right there! Are you happy now seeing us like this?"
David was angry and grabbed Lily's shoulder.
Lily raised her eyelids, "You're right. How about I give you all one more night to think about who should take the blame."
David's expression changed instantly.
Lily's smile widened, "This time that includes you. If you take all the blame, I'll accept that too."
David was completely speechless now.
Lily forcefully brushed off his hand, "When you don't want to take responsibility either, why are you pretending to be the good guy?"
"Lily, in your eyes, I'm pretending to be a good guy? I'm doing this for the family!"
"If you take all the blame and go to jail, then I'll apologize to you. How about it? Do you dare to bet?" Lily smiled and looked deeply at David.
She saw through David's arrogance, and his well-disguised hypocrisy and selfishness.
She had said this much, and he still wanted to morally blackmail her!
Then she wouldn't be polite anymore.
This time, David said nothing, his expression dark enough to drip water.
Lily turned and left gracefully. This time ,David didn't follow.
Sure enough, she had guessed right.
What loyal family? More like a hypocritical family.
Lily turned around and ran into Dennis, Eric, and Mark at the stairwell.
She was stunned, "You all heard that?"
Dennis looked at her deeply and patted her shoulder, "Well done. Let's go back to the lounge first."
Only then did Lily realize they had all heard.
Her expression was a bit awkward.
Back in the lounge, there were just a few of them.
Mark couldn't help but speak up, "Why did you say you'd apologize to him at the end? Why should you apologize?"
Eric raised an eyebrow, "That's strategy. Do you understand!"
Lily smiled, "I said that on purpose because I know him. He won't take all the responsibility."
The David she knew was a man with great ambition.
He often used shady methods in business, which was how he kept the Roberts Group stable in Empire City.
Mark really didn't understand, "But couldn't you just sue them directly, or at least beat them up!"
"Lily deliberately morally blackmailed them to let them taste what that feels like!"
Lily nodded, "Exactly."
Seeing their hypocritical masks torn off just now made her feel great.
This was real revenge.
Making them experience everything she had experienced in her past life.
Lily returned the championship trophy to Mark, "Thanks for your trophy. It came in handy just now."
"Dennis, look at my trophy. Isn't it amazing?"
Mark took the trophy and instinctively tossed it to Dennis.
After Dennis caught the trophy, he tossed it to Eric, as if the trophy were a hot potato.
Eric got it immediately. After catching the trophy, he smoothed things over, "Not bad. Keep up the good work!"
Mark glanced at Lily, "Next year, sister-in-law and I will be competitors. You're allowed to cheer for her!"
Lily froze. Mark called her sister-in-law?
Hearing "sister-in-law," Dennis's tone turned cold, "Mark, what are you talking about?"
Mark realized he'd let something slip and quickly tried to cover, "You're not together yet?"
Dennis's face became somewhat tense.
Eric stepped forward and covered Mark's mouth, "Stop talking."
Eric thought to himself: 'Mark, if you let this slip, you're going to get your brother killed!'
The room was very quiet.
Lily coughed, looking somewhat unnatural, "You've misunderstood my relationship with Dennis. We're not like that."
Dennis looked up, "In your eyes, what is our relationship?"
