Chapter 173 Sophie Finally Couldn't Keep Up the Act
Lily appeared holding a trophy, her face showing an expression of someone ready to watch a good show.
Her tone was gloating, "Austin, you're in the wrong here. What David said isn't wrong."
Austin looked at her in disbelief, "Lily, you have the video too. You should know I didn't take it!"
"But Sophie said before that you two were in it together, right, Sophie? That's what you said, wasn't it?"
Lily looked at Sophie, who was hiding to the side. At this moment, Sophie wanted to stay out of it, but it wasn't going to be that easy.
Sophie answered reluctantly, "I... I didn't say that."
"If you didn't say that, then it means you did the whole thing yourself, so we just need to sue you alone, right?"
"That's not what I meant!" Sophie's voice suddenly rose. She didn't want to go to jail!
But she also didn't want to create conflict with Austin over this, didn't want Austin to resent her.
Lily clicked her tongue, "So you don't want to go to jail, which means you want Austin to go instead."
"Lily, do you have to push people this far?"
Sophie was almost in tears.
This move of Lily's was really vicious!
Lily smiled, "Sophie, don't be scared. After all, your father did the Roberts family a favor. David has been teaching us since we were kids to be good to you, to repay you. So how could we possibly let you go to jail, right?"
Sophie was stunned.
These words had indeed been said many times before.
But they were all used to morally blackmail Lily.
Lily looked at Austin, her tone very flat, "Right, Austin?"
Austin had said the same things before!
Austin's expression changed rapidly. He had indeed said these things before.
At the time, he didn't think there was anything wrong with these words.
But now, when the boomerang hit him, he finally felt how uncomfortable it was.
David snorted coldly, "Lily, so you do know. You should drop the lawsuit; you shouldn't be suing at all. Sophie's father did you a favor, not us!"
"That's not right." Lily's tone was cold. "I remember when Sophie's father had that car accident. He saved me first, and when he went back to save Mom and Dad, the car exploded, and all three of them died together.
So Sophie's father died saving our parents, not just for me.
Besides me, you all owe Sophie, too."
David frowned, "We don't need you to tell us that, so I've already decided to let Austin take responsibility for all this."
"David, if I go to jail, my career is ruined. This was clearly Sophie's fault!"
Lily sighed, "Austin, I have to say something about this. Sophie's parents did you a favor, too. How can you bear to let Sophie go to jail?"
"But I didn't do this." Austin defended himself.
"Even if you didn't do it, you should still think of Sophie. You owe her this! Can you really bear to see a young girl go to jail and ruin her whole life? You're too selfish." Lily continued earnestly, "You said we're family, that family always sticks together, right? Is this how you act?"
Austin looked at Lily in shock, unable to say a word in response.
Because these were all things he had said before.
Now it was all coming back to him.
Lily saw Austin speechless and felt especially good!
She had waited so long for this day.
Before, they had always morally blackmailed her, making her back down, making her apologize.
Now it was finally their turn.
David couldn't stand it anymore. "Lily, stop talking. We all know this."
"No, I have to say it." Lily sneered, "David, I need to talk about you, too."
David's eyes showed wariness. "What about me?"
"You're an accomplice too. As the eldest brother, you knew Sophie did wrong but didn't stop her. As a brother, you're not doing your job."
"Lily, you..."
"David, let me finish. You're usually all about being fair and just, right? As the head of the Roberts family, you should step up and take responsibility for all this."
Lily looked at David, her tone lingering, "After all, you're family. How can you bear to watch your brother and sister turn against each other and go to jail? David, you're too selfish."
Stop pretending to be a good person.
You're part of this, too.
David's face looked very ugly.
He had never thought he would have to take responsibility.
No one spoke.
Lily's mouth was dry from talking. She held the trophy, "Come on, say something. Isn't this how you all taught me before? Why won't you do it when it's your turn? You're all too selfish!"
In her past life, when they morally blackmailed her, they were so eloquent.
How come now, when it's their turn, they can't do it?
Hypocrites!
Lily's eyes were cold. Today, she was going to personally expose their hypocritical true faces!
Sophie's face turned pale as she listened.
That bitch Lily, she knew she was up to no good. So this is what she was waiting for.
This bitch wanted to use this incident to drive a wedge between her and her brothers.
Sophie's voice was tearful as she looked at David, "David, this is trouble I caused myself. I'll take responsibility. Don't let you and Austin take the blame for me."
If she didn't do something, it would all be over.
Lily's move to sow discord was too vicious.
David's expression didn't look good. He didn't expect Lily to drag him into this.
He hesitated before speaking, "Sophie, don't worry about this. It has nothing to do with you."
Lily smiled and picked up the conversation, "That's right, see, David is comforting you, so obviously he'll go to jail for you."
"Lily, when did I ever say that?" David's voice was a bit anxious.
Lily said in surprise, "As the oldest brother in the family, if you don't step up now, when will you?"
"But if I go to jail, my career is completely ruined. Who will run the Roberts Group?"
"David, you're only ruining your own career, but Sophie is a girl - she'd be ruining her whole life's reputation. How will she get married in the future?"
David was breaking, "But if the Roberts Group goes bankrupt, what will you all eat and use in the future?"
"At worst, we'll have no money and beg on the streets, but we can't be selfish people. Sophie's father did the Roberts family a favor. David, you're not really going to let her go to jail, are you!" Lily said slowly.
David was so angry that his lungs were about to explode.
But he couldn't refute these words.
Because he had said them to Lily before.
David was very unwilling, "Lily, you keep saying we're family, so why don't you drop the lawsuit?"
"You are family, but I've already cut ties, so obviously, I'm not family with you anymore. So, David, are you unwilling to take responsibility for Sophie?"
"Lily, do you even hear yourself?"
Lily kicked over a trash can, her eyes cold and sharp.
Her tone was sarcastic, "Oh, so you know these aren't things people should say."
But you all fucking said them every day before!
David suddenly lowered his eyes, not daring to look at Lily.
Lily walked over, pressing closer step by step, "Say something! David, who always acts as the head of the family, why aren't you talking now!"
She grabbed David by the collar.
Her tone was venomous, "Gone mute, or just can't say it anymore?"
Keep talking!
