Chapter 143 This Time Sophie Failed to Pretend to Be Weak
After Lily left, Sophie recalled the humiliating scene she had just experienced and burst into tears of anger.
That bitch Lily!
Sophie really regretted not pushing Lily off the edge! And she even left evidence behind!
Sophie couldn't swallow this insult. Just then, her phone rang. It was Austin calling. "Sophie, I'm at school and want to talk to you. Where are you?"
Sophie answered tearfully, "Austin, I'm on the rooftop. Lily asked me to meet her here, and she tried to kill me. I was so scared!"
"I'm coming right now."
Sophie hung up and made herself look even more disheveled to gain Austin's sympathy.
Meanwhile, Lily was slowly walking down the stairs.
But when she reached the first floor, she saw Austin rushing over, looking very worried.
Lily raised her eyebrows slightly. She didn't expect Sophie's backup to arrive so quickly.
When Austin saw Lily, he stopped in his tracks. Seeing Lily's cold expression, he felt she was like a stranger.
Lily calmly looked away and kept walking.
As they passed each other, Lily didn't even glance at Austin.
As if they were just strangers.
Austin's heart sank. He couldn't help but turn around. "Lily!"
Lily didn't turn back, as if she hadn't heard him.
Austin unwillingly chased after her. "Lily, stop! Sophie just called me and said you asked her to meet on the rooftop and tried to push her off to kill her!"
Lily lifted her eyelids. "Are you questioning me?"
Austin realized his tone wasn't good, but Lily had been ignoring him, which made him feel terrible, so he acted this way instinctively.
Austin lowered his voice. "I just want to ask you why you did this. Sophie is your sister, too."
"Sophie doesn't deserve to be my family. She only deserves to be in jail!" Lily said harshly.
Austin was taken aback. "But intentionally hurting someone can also land you in jail."
"Do you have evidence for what you're saying?"
"What evidence do I need for this?"
"No evidence? Then why did you ask me for evidence before?"
Lily's eyes darkened. "When Sophie hurts me, I need to provide evidence. But when Sophie says I hurt her, no evidence is needed, right?"
"Lily, that's not what I meant."
"Then what do you mean?"
Lily looked at Austin in front of her, watching his expression change from righteous to guilty, and finally falling into silence.
Lily said coldly, "So stop acting regretful in front of me, like you want to fix our relationship. It makes me sick!"
Faced with Lily's questioning, Austin was completely defeated!
Only now did he realize how biased his behavior was!
Austin watched her walk away. He had been impulsive this time. He wouldn't question Lily like this again.
Austin turned and went to the rooftop.
Sophie ran crying into Austin's arms. "Austin, I almost died!"
"What did Lily say when she asked you here?"
"She thought the car accident had something to do with me, so she came to give me trouble. But this was done by the Harper family, it has nothing to do with me."
Sophie would never admit she masterminded all of this.
She had to shift the blame to the Harper family!
That way, no one would suspect her, and they wouldn't discover her father, who had come back from the dead!
Austin thought about what Lily had just said and seemed distracted.
"Austin, you have to stand up for me. I really almost died."
Austin snapped back to attention. "But nothing happened to you, right? Lily just wanted to vent. She didn't really want to kill you. Let it go. She's also a victim."
After hearing this, Sophie was so frustrated she could barely breathe!
What did he mean by "let it go"?
If Austin had known about this before, he would have immediately gone to confront Lily!
How come even Austin was starting to change?
Sophie cried in grief. "But I almost died."
"Sophie, I know you've always been understanding. Although Lily ran away from home, we're still family. Don't worry about it so much." Austin paused. "Besides, there's no evidence to prove Lily did all this to you, right?"
Sophie was so angry she couldn't even cry anymore.
Wasn't this what they used to say to Lily?
She never thought that one day the boomerang would hit her!
Sophie was in a difficult position. If she kept pursuing this, her image would collapse.
In the end, Sophie could only swallow this insult and didn't dare mention holding Lily accountable!
But she wouldn't let this go.
Lily returned to the dorm where all her roommates were.
Zoey saw the gauze on her forehead and quickly said, "Lily, you're injured?"
"Yeah, but I'm fine now."
Lily sat in her chair. Wendy, next to her, said sarcastically, "Lily, you're not pretending to be sick to avoid the assessment because you're afraid of losing, are you?"
Lily smiled. "To be honest, all the people in the school clubs combined couldn't beat me."
"Lily, keep bragging. You didn't even dare come to the assessment, and you still claim you're so great!"
Lily didn't bother explaining much. She was too lazy to say more to her.
Wendy deliberately showed off, "The base is also hosting an internet celebrity event this time. Tonight at Crayfish Live, many big streamers will come. Too bad you don't have this chance. Only members of the team base are qualified to attend this event."
After Wendy finished speaking, she left in her little dress and high heels.
After Wendy left, Zoey said to Lily, "Actually, you're really good. You could sign with another team and still have a chance to join the national team."
"I know, thanks." Lily hadn't considered the team matter yet.
Whether or not she joined a team didn't really matter much to her.
As Lily was about to take a shower, she received a call from the Crayfish Live manager. "Ms. Roberts, I called you so many times yesterday and sent you messages. Why didn't you reply?"
"I was in a car accident yesterday, so I didn't get the calls. I just got out of the hospital and back to the dorm."
"I see. I remember you're at Empire City University. There's an internet celebrity event tonight at the Empire City team base. Come join us. I've sent the invitation to your phone."
Lily thought for a moment. "Okay."
Might as well join the fun and stop certain people from yapping in her ear.
After Lily hung up, Zoey looked at her. "Do you have a favorite streamer? I can get an autograph for you."
"No need, but thanks." After showering, Lily came out and changed into a white T-shirt and jeans.
She noticed several missed calls on her phone from an unfamiliar number.
Just then, the phone rang again.
Lily answered. "Hello, who is this?"
"You're Lily Roberts, right?" The voice on the other end was arrogant and condescending.
Lily's tone grew colder. "Yes, that's me. Who are you?"
"I'm the lawyer for the Harper family. Regarding the matter between you and my client Samantha, I'd like to meet with you in person."
"There's nothing to talk about. I wish her a speedy reformation and a fresh start as a better person!"
The person on the other end was quite angry. "Lily, you've got quite an attitude. Aren't you afraid of dragging down the Roberts family?"
Lily's lips curved slightly. 'Dragging down the Roberts family? That would be a bonus.'
