Chapter 94 The Roberts Family Must Not Know Her Father Is Still Alive
Sophie quickly put away her phone: "It's just a video from my feed, nobody sent it to me."
She couldn't let the Roberts family find out about this.
After all, it was only because she became an orphan that the Roberts family brought her back.
Besides, there had to be something fishy about her father being alive.
Sophie had a really bad feeling about this.
Sophie quickly changed the subject: "Why are you back? Is Michael feeling better?"
"He's better."
Only then did Austin pull back his hand: "You said in the livestream earlier that Michael was sick. What did Lily say about that?"
Sophie sighed: "She seemed even angrier, blaming me for saying that in front of so many people."
She did it on purpose.
Publicly guilt-tripping Lily so that the woman would never want to come back.
"Don't blame yourself. Lily has changed now."
Austin glanced around the bedroom and hesitated before saying, "Sophie, your old room was indeed a bit small. I'm planning to renovate the guest room for you. But this bedroom should go back to Lily. What do you think?"
Sophie's expression froze.
She never expected Austin would come to talk about this.
She had moved into Lily's bedroom and had always treated it as her own room.
She never thought she'd have to move out!
Plus, Lily herself said she wanted to cut ties with the Roberts family, so she would be the Roberts family's only rich young lady and should naturally live in the biggest room.
But she never expected Austin would actually ask her to move out?
Austin said awkwardly, "Sophie, don't overthink it. I don't mean anything by it. It's mainly that Lily keeps throwing tantrums, so we need to give back what's hers."
When Lily talked about cutting ties, he felt like he'd been slapped.
He'd also reflected on how he treated Lily and Sophie differently before. Now he needed to learn to be fair, since Lily cared about these things too.
He had to learn to change.
"Austin, what are you saying? How could I overthink it? This room was always Lily's. It's only right to return it to its owner."
Sophie showed a kind and understanding smile.
In reality, she hated Lily to the bone.
Austin immediately felt relieved: "I knew you were the most understanding. Lily has such a bad temper, we can only go along with her now. Don't worry, I won't treat you badly in the future."
"I know."
"Oh, and about that party before, when Lily apologized to you, those jewelry pieces that were temporarily kept with you - sort those out too. When Lily comes back, return them all to her."
When Sophie heard this, she could barely maintain her smile.
Moving out of the room was one thing, but returning the jewelry she'd already gotten her hands on to Lily made her whole body ache.
Sophie's eyes immediately reddened: "Austin, I know those jewels were just temporarily in my care, but I've worn them to salon parties before. If I don't wear anything to events next time, won't the media write bad things?"
"Don't worry about that. I'll get you some new jewelry."
"Okay then, thanks, Austin."
Though Sophie was extremely reluctant inside, she still had to keep up appearances.
Seeing Sophie being so reasonable, Austin sighed: "If only Lily were as understanding as you."
Things wouldn't be this troublesome now.
Sophie's eyes showed a hint of mockery. The only reason she was so understanding and obedient was that she deliberately acted this way to please her brothers.
God knows how much she'd endured.
After Austin left, Sophie's face instantly darkened.
She thought she was already on equal footing with Lily.
But reality had slapped her in the face.
Her phone buzzed with a second message: [Soph, no matter how well you pretend, you're not the Roberts family's rich young lady. We're the real family!]
Sophie looked at this message, her eyes filled with hatred.
Yes, after all these years of careful planning, she'd treated the Roberts family brothers as her own brothers.
But what did she get in the end?
She still couldn't compare to Lily, the real sister!
Sophie finally picked up her phone and opened that message. Maybe it was time to plan her exit strategy.
Once Lily came back, there would be no place for her at all!
Lily had been having a pretty good time the past few days, going online to play games every day.
But then she got a call from the College Board: "Is this Lily? We're from the College Board. Multiple people have reported that you cheated on your exam. We need to investigate your scores now. We hope you can come to the school to cooperate with us."
Cheating on the exam?
After hanging up, Lily found it ridiculous.
As for who reported her, she didn't need to guess.
The only person in this world who would be jealous of her was Sophie.
Lily wasn't panicked. After all, her scores weren't fake.
Before leaving, she looked at the empty apartment. Dennis and Eric had been at the company during the day these past few days.
The mini-program game she'd helped develop was about to launch.
She thought about it but decided not to tell Dennis about this. She could handle it herself. She took a taxi to school.
When Lily got to school, she found Richard and Alex were both there.
After she walked into the office, a middle-aged man sitting on the sofa spoke: "You're Lily, right? I'm the staff member in charge of investigating scores. I need to ask you some questions."
"Sure."
Lily was very calm.
Alex, beside her said: "Lily's final scores improved dramatically, but her previous scores weren't bad either. She had a good foundation. It's not impossible that she had a breakthrough in the last few months. She has the ability. We're not afraid of having the papers checked."
"The test papers are still under review. We'll investigate this matter fairly and justly."
After the questions were done, Lily asked, "Who exactly reported me?"
"We can't disclose that. That's all for today. We'll discuss this matter thoroughly when we get back."
Alex was a bit anxious: "Lily really didn't cheat. Why don't you have her take another practice test, then you'll know her real ability?"
Lily was touched to see Alex speaking up for her. At least her teacher believed in her.
Richard said calmly, "Ms. Roberts, don't worry too much. If you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear."
Lily nodded: "I know, so I'm not worried at all."
"That's good. There's nothing else here. You can go back and wait for news."
After Lily left the office, Richard took out his phone and made a call: "Mr. Gonzalez, there's something I need to tell you."
After hearing what Richard said, Dennis paused the meeting and walked out of the conference room alone.
His sharp eyes stared at the business district, his voice somewhat serious: "She just went to school?"
"Yes, to cooperate with the investigation. She's already left. The person who reported her said the stationery I gave Lily was problematic and helped her cheat."
"Ridiculous."
Dennis knew the truth of this matter better than anyone. Besides, Lily's ability didn't require cheating.
His hand tapped the glass, his eyes deep and dark: "I understand."
After Dennis hung up, his thin lips curved into a chilling smile.
Eric came out of the conference room: "Hey, why are you showing such a scary smile? What phone call was that?"
"Someone reported Lily for cheating on her exam scores."
"Damn, who's that shameless?"
Dennis's brows were tinged with coldness: "Some people really think they can get away with it forever? Go investigate who reported this, and pull up the surveillance video of that Roberts family adopted daughter during the exam."
He remembered Lily saying that the Roberts family's adopted daughter liked to cheat on regular tests.
Generally, this type of person, thinking their skills were so good, would definitely do it on the SAT, too.
Since those people were reaching so far, he'd personally cut off their claws.
Lily was a bit distracted after returning to the apartment.
She knew this was definitely Sophie's doing.
But this disgusting tactic was truly revolting.
After thinking it over, she finally called the reporting hotline: "I want to report someone for cheating on an exam."
Fighting fire with fire.
Although Lily wasn't sure if Sophie had cheated, given Sophie's habit of cheating on regular tests, maybe she really did pull something on the SAT.
Anyway, she wanted to disgust Sophie, too.
When Lily went out to buy things, she saw a somewhat familiar car parked by the road.
She quickened her pace and walked forward, pretending not to see it.
"Lily, don't go, hear me out."
Austin hurried after her: "David's back. You'd better go home and apologize, or you're dead."
