Chapter 85 You Are Not Worthy to Be My Brother
Lily tugged at the corner of her mouth and turned to leave.
But Austin grabbed her arm and whispered, "Even if you get drunk, I'll make sure you get home safe. You don't need to worry about that."
Lily wanted to leave, but pain shot through her wrist.
She lowered her gaze. "You want me to drink, huh?"
You're really pushing it.
Austin released her arm and sighed in relief. "Lily, that's the spirit. Just apologize and explain everything to them, and this whole mess will be over."
Lily walked over to the table and glanced at the beers lined up.
A middle-aged man nearby sized her up. "Mr. Roberts' sister is quite pretty. Does she have a boyfriend at school?"
"These days, girls are pretty open. She must have a boyfriend."
Austin felt uncomfortable hearing this since Lily was his younger sister. But given that today was about seeking favors and apologizing, he couldn't stop them from making jokes, so he let it slide.
He planned to protect Lily later and wouldn't let her suffer.
Lily picked up a beer glass and splashed it at the two men who had been talking. "Your mouths are so filthy. Clean them up."
"Lily, what are you doing?"
Austin's face turned pale as he rushed forward and grabbed Lily. "Are you crazy? I told you to apologize!"
"Yeah, this is my way of 'apologizing.'"
Lily's lips curled into a cold smile. "Satisfied now?"
Forcing her to do things she didn't want to do, he never understood her words.
So she used this method to make Austin understand.
Austin's eyes reddened with anger, and he slapped Lily hard. "You've gone too far this time. Apologize to them right now, do you hear me?"
Pain radiated from Lily's cheek. Expressionless, she picked up a beer bottle and smashed it against Austin's head.
Blood immediately flowed from the wound.
Austin, suppressing his dizziness, said, "Lily, how dare you..."
Lily pushed him away. "There's nothing I don't dare to do."
After finishing this, she coldly glanced at the investors.
The men quickly distanced themselves from Lily, afraid she might throw something at them.
Lily spoke icily, "I've already left Titan Team. He's been using my name to attract investments. You better not be fooled. I won't compete for the Roberts family."
With that, Lily walked out of the private room.
"Lily, stop right there!"
Austin chased after her, furious, blood on his forehead, making him look frightening.
After a few steps, Lily saw Dennis approaching.
His gaze held a hint of concern. "Why did you come to the second floor without telling me?"
In the blink of an eye, Lily had disappeared.
Dennis had nearly lost his mind with worry.
Lily's face was pale. "I didn't want to. I was dragged here."
Seeing Austin approaching, Dennis instinctively shielded Lily behind him, his tone cold. "Stay away from her."
"Move aside. Lily is my sister. You have no right to interfere!"
Dennis pushed Austin away, and the already injured Austin nearly fell.
Austin angrily shouted, "Lily, do you want to ruin me? What did I ever do to you?"
Lily replied coldly, "You never understand what I say. It's not my fault."
Austin really thought she wouldn't dare to do anything, still seeing her as the timid person she used to be.
But today, she didn't let Austin have his way.
Austin leaned against the wall. "Lily, all I asked was for you to apologize to the investors. This mess is your fault; you should clean it up.
But you've ruined everything. Aren't you afraid I'll never speak to you again?"
"That's the best news I've heard. I hope you keep your word."
Lily turned to leave. Dennis glanced at Austin. "Forcing your young sister to drink and apologize to those middle-aged men, have you lost your conscience?"
Austin's expression became uneasy. "I was going to protect her."
This mess was Lily's doing; he wasn't wrong.
Dennis, suppressing his anger, said, "There won't be a next time."
He turned and caught up with Lily, and they walked down the stairs together.
Dennis was both angry and worried. "You okay?"
Lily shook her head. "I just splashed them with beer and smashed Austin's head."
"Good for you."
As they walked side by side, a drunken person stumbled toward them. Dennis quickly pulled Lily close to protect her.
Lily looked up at him. "Why are you always so good to me?"
Dennis saw the look in Lily's eyes and felt a softness he couldn't explain. But he could only say, "Lily, I'm just helping you because it's the right thing to do. I can't stand how biased your brother is."
Lily's gaze turned a bit desperate.
His words were calm, even gentle, but they clearly rejected her.
Feeling flustered, Lily said, "I need to go to the restroom."
She turned and walked downstairs toward the restroom.
Dennis followed closely behind, his eyes darkening, as if hiding years of sorrow.
When Lily entered the restroom, Dennis finally stopped and borrowed a cigarette from someone.
His long fingers held the cigarette, and white smoke escaped his lips, hiding his suppressed emotions.
Eric walked over, holding two drinks, and handed one to Dennis. "The Roberts family is awful, making her drink and apologize!"
Dennis downed his drink in one gulp, his eyes dark.
"Let me remind you, keep some distance from Lily. Don't be too good to her."
"You're good to her too, aren't you?"
Dennis, cigarette between his lips, frowned.
Eric raised an eyebrow. "It's different. Seeing how the Roberts family treats her, who wouldn't be mad?"
Dennis lowered his gaze. "Some things are beyond control."
"True."
Eric looked at him meaningfully. When had he ever seen Dennis so frustrated?
The last time was when their company was about to go public and faced betrayal from an insider, putting the listing at risk.
Over the years, Dennis had always been calm and strategic.
Rarely had he seen Dennis in such a dilemma.
Eric had a feeling that the girl named Lily meant something different to Dennis.
Meanwhile, Lily was sitting on the toilet in the restroom, rubbing her face.
She had been brave earlier, but now she felt scared.
Lily stayed in the restroom for a long time, wishing she could disappear.
When she heard knocking on the door, she finally left the stall and let someone else use it.
She walked to the sink, dejectedly washing her hands, when she heard a surprised voice beside her. "Lily, where did you go earlier?"
Lily looked up and saw Sophie. She quickly looked away and continued washing her hands, ignoring Sophie.
But Sophie scrutinized Lily. "You came to the bar and were hugging other men. If Michael finds out, he'll be mad."
Lily rolled her eyes and headed outside.
Sophie chased after her. "Lily, why are you leaving? I'm just worried about you. Austin is here, too. Because of the lost match, the investors are pulling out."
Lily smirked. "You can only blame yourselves for being weak."
Sophie immediately looked hurt. Ethan spoke up. "Lily, be nicer. If you keep bullying my girlfriend, I'll deal with you."
Ethan had initially been interested in Lily, but felt humiliated when she embarrassed him publicly.
After finding Sophie sweet and understanding, Ethan shifted his focus, determined to show Lily how well Sophie was doing and make her regret rejecting him.
Today seemed like the perfect opportunity.
Lily's eyes held disdain. "If playing the victim counts as bullying, the prisons must be overcrowded."
"Watch your mouth! It's your fault Sophie had to replace you in the match!"
Lily sneered. "Sophie plays terribly, yet she dares to replace anyone. Truly shameless."
Sophie, insulted, gritted her teeth.
Losing the match had made Austin's attitude toward her colder, all because of Lily.
Austin appeared, holding a towel, his face dark.
He looked at Lily. "At least Sophie tried hard for the Roberts family. What have you done for us?"
