Chapter 70 The Real Daughter is Lily
Austin's angry words made Lorenzo tremble with fear.
"Austin, what's going on?" Sophie walked over at that moment.
Austin snapped at Lorenzo, "Lorenzo dared to hit someone in the company. Fire him immediately."
Lorenzo stammered in panic, "It's not my fault! Lily hit me first. I was just defending myself."
Sophie chimed in, "But she's a girl. You, as a man, shouldn't take it so seriously."
Lorenzo didn't dare argue, especially since Austin was backing Lily. Who knew what their relationship was?
Sophie tugged on Austin's sleeve and whispered, "Austin, you can't just fire someone on a whim. This is a company."
Austin instinctively glanced at Lily, his tone hard, "What do you think?"
Lily's expression was indifferent, "I don't care."
She grabbed her bag and walked out.
Austin was furious, "What's her attitude?"
He had just helped her, and now she didn't even appreciate it?
Ungrateful wretch!
Sophie smirked inwardly. After all the hurt Austin had caused Lily, only a fool would forgive so easily.
But for Sophie, this was a good thing.
Sophie said graciously, "She's always been like this. Austin, you've known her long enough. Let's discuss this outside."
Before everyone in the company found out that Lily was the real Roberts family daughter.
Otherwise, how could Sophie maintain her position in the company?
Since Lily didn't want the Roberts family's daughter's identity, Sophie would take it.
The next day, when Lily arrived at the office, she noticed many people staring at her.
She knew it was because of yesterday's incident.
But after she finished testing the software today, she could take her money and leave.
As soon as Lily sat down, a female colleague approached, "What's your relationship with Austin Roberts?"
"Nothing."
"I don't believe it. If there's nothing, why did he defend you so much yesterday? Lorenzo was scared to death."
The events of yesterday had spread throughout the company. No one expected the new engineer to have such connections.
No wonder she got through HR so easily at such a young age.
Probably an ex-girlfriend of Austin.
Lily kept her eyes on her screen, ignoring the colleague's questions.
The colleague had to drop the subject.
Soon, Lorenzo arrived at work, but he wasn't as arrogant as before. When he saw Lily, he just scowled and didn't dare do anything.
What if he provoked her, and Austin stood up for her again?
The office was eerily quiet.
Not long after, Derek came to the tech department. "Everyone, come to the meeting. We need to discuss how to fix the firewall issue. The boss will be inspecting our work, so let's come up with solutions."
"No need to discuss. I've already written the patch code. We can test it directly."
Lorenzo sneered, "You wrote it so quickly? Who are you trying to fool?"
"Just because you're incompetent doesn't mean everyone else is."
Lily shot back coldly.
Lorenzo was furious but didn't dare act out. He could only retort sourly, "Fine, let's test it. If it doesn't work, you're out."
Lily copied the code onto a USB drive and headed to the lab for testing.
At that moment, Sophie walked over and exchanged a glance with Lorenzo.
Lily opened the software backend and started testing.
But soon, an error message popped up.
Lorenzo sneered, "See? It's faulty. You talk big but have no real skills."
Sophie feigned surprise, "Maybe you should go back and revise it."
"What's there to revise? Derek, as agreed, she should be fired. We don't need to hire someone else to fix this because I've already written the code."
Lorenzo pulled out a USB drive and looked down at Lily, "Step aside. If you can't do it, don't boast."
Lorenzo sat down and began working. He successfully passed the test.
Lorenzo looked smugly at Lily, "See? That's real skill!"
Lily scoffed, "Stealing someone else's code and boasting about it? Yes, you're quite skilled at that."
"What nonsense are you spouting?"
Lorenzo was furious and glanced nervously at Sophie.
Sophie calmly said, "Lorenzo has real skills. You can't accuse him of stealing just because your code didn't work."
Derek impatiently said to Lily, "You're fired."
"Who dares to fire her?"
Michael walked in, followed by Alvin.
Sophie was annoyed. Why did he have to show up now?
Derek quickly said respectfully, "Mr. Roberts, I have a reason to fire her. Her code was faulty, and she's arrogant and uncooperative. Such an employee can't stay."
Michael's expression was cold. "She wasn't here to be an employee. She's your future boss. What work arrangements does she need to cooperate with?"
The room fell silent with shock.
Sophie's expression changed. What did he mean?
Did Michael plan to let Lily run the branch office?
Lorenzo couldn't help but ask, "Why her?"
"Because she's my sister. Do you have a problem with that?"
"But isn't your sister Sophie?"
Everyone looked at Sophie, thinking she was Ms. Roberts.
Alvin scolded Derek, "I personally informed you that Ms. Roberts would come to the branch. Where's your brain?"
Derek's face turned pale, "But she admitted she was Ms. Roberts."
"The Roberts family's daughter would naturally have the surname Roberts. Are you stupid? How could you get this wrong?"
Derek was about to collapse.
Michael hadn't expected such a mix-up. He cautiously looked at Lily, "I'm sorry. I didn't know they got the wrong person. I didn't mean for you to suffer."
Lily's eyes were filled with disdain. She didn't need any of this.
Sophie held back her anger but explained, "It was all a misunderstanding. I didn't expect them to get it wrong. I should have clarified. Michael, blame me."
Derek asked in surprise, "Does the Roberts family have two daughters?"
Sophie swallowed her pride and said, "I'm just the Roberts family's adopted sister, Sophie Scott. Lily is the real Ms. Roberts. I thought everyone knew since she has the Roberts surname."
"Ms. Scott, if you're not Ms. Roberts, why did you admit it?"
Derek was speechless. How could he have guessed?
Derek had heard the Roberts family had an adopted daughter. Who would have thought they both showed up on the same day?
And who would have thought the fake daughter would admit it without explaining, causing all this trouble?
Sophie's eyes reddened, "Michael, I didn't expect this misunderstanding. Austin told me he had informed the company. Lily didn't explain either. How was I supposed to know?"
Michael was angry, "Why didn't you tell everyone that Lily is the real Ms. Roberts?"
