Chapter 197 Using a Bit of Self-Harm to Force Her to Turn Back?
Lily didn't say anything for a moment.
David's voice came through the phone, "Lily, you're the one who put Michael and Austin in this state. Don't you dare come to the hospital!"
Alvin was frantic, "Mr. David Roberts, how can you say that?"
"Am I wrong? Who's the reason Michael is lying in the emergency room?"
"But this is what Mr. Michael Roberts wanted. The person he most wants to see is Ms. Roberts. It's his wish, you can't stop it!"
Alvin held the phone, his tone pleading, "Ms. Roberts!"
"I never said I'd come to the hospital. It's just excessive blood loss; he won't die." Lily wasn't stupid. She wouldn't run to the hospital because of this little guilt-tripping trick.
When she died in her past life, she was all alone, too.
Her dear brothers were all by Sophie's side.
Lily hung up directly.
Alvin looked at the disconnected call, his shoulders sagging.
David stared at the phone in disbelief, "She just hung up like that? Is she really not coming to even take a look? The person being resuscitated in there is her own brother!"
"Mr. David Roberts, weren't you the one who just said not to let her come?"
"I was speaking out of anger. How could she not come?"
Alvin forced a smile, "Mr. David Roberts, family members don't need to speak harshly to each other. You can talk nicely."
"Haven't I been talking nicely enough?" David shot back.
"Mr. David Roberts, you used to laugh off insults from enemies. But why do you have to speak harshly when facing Ms. Roberts? I don't understand. Shouldn't family members be more patient, more understanding, more caring?"
Alvin couldn't figure it out at all.
Now Michael understood, but Lily's heart had long been broken. Regret was useless.
David couldn't say a word. He didn't think he was wrong.
Lily did something wrong, and he was supposed to sweet-talk her?
Impossible!
Sophie would never be like Lily.
Late at night, Michael was wheeled out of the operating room.
He was unconscious but murmuring Lily's name.
David felt uncomfortable, "Even in this state, he's still calling for that ungrateful girl Lily?"
David's assistant said, "Mr. Roberts, the company's system isn't under hacker attack anymore, but the stock price has plummeted. The shareholders are all waiting for an explanation."
"I know, we'll talk tomorrow." David looked at Alvin, "You've met Mr. Murphy in Imperial City before, right?"
"That's right."
"Then who's that man beside Lily?"
"He's a school doctor from Ms. Roberts' high school. He seems to be on good terms with Mr. Murphy."
David narrowed his eyes, "Just a school doctor? Have you checked?"
"Yes, he's just an ordinary school doctor. Ms. Roberts ran away from home with this man back then, but with Mr. Murphy's help, we never found where Ms. Roberts was living."
David thought to himself: 'Really just an ordinary school doctor?'
'Then I must have been wrong. After all, that heir of the Gonzalez family socializes at the top circles, not somewhere he could fit in.'
'The heir of the Gonzalez family has such a prestigious status, he probably wouldn't go work as a small school doctor at a high school.'
'Probably just lucky to have met Mr. Murphy.'
David breathed a sigh of relief. Good that it wasn't him.
Lily didn't go back to school this time. She went back to her apartment on the weekend—she still had to livestream.
When she got back to the apartment, she saw men's shoes at the entrance.
She kicked them aside, then stuffed them into the cabinet.
Lily hadn't eaten and had no appetite.
When she started her livestream, her mood wasn't great either, but she still did PK battles as usual.
The game had released a new character, and Lily demonstrated how to play it for everyone.
During the chat after the stream ended, someone mentioned the Roberts Group's stock price had plummeted.
Lily glanced at it, "I have nothing to do with the Roberts family anymore. I don't care about their business."
Lily had argued with haters once before, so now everyone knew she was good at cursing people out.
After the stream ended, Lily touched her stomach—she was a bit hungry.
She had just turned off her computer when there was a knock at the door.
Lily walked to the entrance, puzzled, "Who is it?"
"Delivery."
Lily opened the door. "I didn't order any delivery."
"The address is correct. You're Lily, right?"
"Yes, that's me."
After confirming the name, the delivery person handed the food to Lily and left.
Lily thought it was strange. Only three people knew she lived here.
Dennis, Eric, Zoey.
Lily received a message from Dennis: [Remember to eat.]
Lily looked at the delivery—he had actually ordered it.
After sitting down, she replied: [Who needs you ordering delivery for me? I can order it myself.]
[I'm trying to make you feel better, aren't I?]
Lily looked at this message, the corners of her mouth turning up slightly, but she quickly suppressed it.
She had no appetite earlier, but now she was hungry.
And the delivery was exactly the flavor she liked.
After finishing her meal, she glanced at their chat window and deliberately didn't reply to his message.
The next day, Lily slept in naturally. She had to attend an esports industry party that evening.
She picked up her phone and messaged Zoey to arrange for her to come to the apartment, so they could change clothes and go together.
She received a message: [Open the door, lunch is here.]
Lily got out of bed to open the door and received a lunch delivery.
Her mood improved a lot. She messaged Dennis: [Thanks, boss.]
[Not mad anymore?]
[I wasn't mad to begin with.]
Dennis saw this message, his thin lips curving slightly. This was called not being mad?
He put down his phone. Mark's loud voice reached his ears, "Dennis, you're back? Why didn't you call me!"
Dennis glanced at Mark and pushed him away with one hand.
At that moment, Celeste came out, "Mark, you're a grown man. Stop clinging to Dennis."
"I just want to talk to Dennis."
He wanted to confirm whether Dennis had agreed to Lily's outrageous terms!
He didn't want to withdraw from the competition.
Celeste looked at Mark, "Aren't you going to some esports party? Go early."
Dennis looked at Mark, "What kind?"
"Just a gathering. I heard Quest University's team was also invited. My agent really wants to recruit the Quest University team's captain!"
Mark said this on purpose, hinting that Lily would be there too.
Celeste was a bit curious, "Is that captain really good?"
Dennis frowned, looking at Mark with warning in his eyes.
Only then did Mark scurry away
Celeste shook her head, "If he had half your composure, I'd be very happy. You rarely come back. The Harper family has asked several times when we can have dinner together."
"Mom, I'm very busy lately. Don't accept these social obligations for me, or you'll be the one embarrassed."
Celeste wanted to say more, but the butler came over, "Mr. Gonzalez, Mrs. Gonzalez is waiting for you in the back garden."
Dennis got up and went to the back garden.
Dennis's grandmother, Odette Gonzalez, sat in a chair. She waved at Dennis, "Come help me trim the flowers."
Dennis skillfully picked up the pruning shears.
Odette looked at him, "I heard you met a girl you like in Imperial City?"
"Grandma, we're not together yet."
"You're so handsome. As long as you're willing to pursue her, what girl couldn't you get?"
Dennis's hand paused. He looked at Odette in front of him and hesitated.
He smiled bitterly, "Grandma, she's that girl from back then."
Odette's cup fell to the ground...
