Chapter 116 David's Final Warning to You
Sophie endured the pain and got up from the floor, crying as she said, "David, you saw it yourself. I just wanted to talk some sense into Lily, to apologize to the family and come back home. I didn't expect her to get angry and push me down the stairs!"
Only then did David notice Sophie. He walked over and helped her up.
He said coldly, "Don't worry, Sophie. I'll make sure you get justice."
David turned and shouted at his secretary, "Call the police!"
Sophie endured the pain and pretended to be wronged, "David, if we call the police, Lily will have a criminal record. Let's just forget it. As long as she apologizes."
Seeing how generous and understanding Sophie was, David felt deeply sorry for her.
He questioned Lily, "Did you hear that? You hurt Sophie, but she's so kind and generous that she's worried about you getting a criminal record. Look at what you've done. Are you even human? Is this how I raised you all these years?"
When Lily heard these words, someone covered her ears.
She looked up in surprise and met his warm, deep eyes.
Dennis coaxed her softly, "Don't listen. It's dirty!"
Lily's heart trembled instantly. The feelings she'd been hiding surged out at that moment, almost drowning her.
She couldn't control the joy in her heart. It felt as sweet as honey.
She had planned to slowly control her feelings for Dennis, but he broke into her world again.
It was so hard not to fall for him.
"Lily, I'm talking to you. Are you deaf?"
Lily snapped back and clicked her tongue.
She turned to look at David and Sophie, "My ears work just fine, but some people should get their eyes checked."
"Lily, if you apologize to Sophie before the police arrive, we won't hold you responsible."
David looked at Lily. He still wanted to give her a chance.
After all, she was his sister. No matter how useless she was, he didn't want her to have a criminal record.
Lily found these words ridiculous.
But it was very much in line with how the Roberts family did things.
They used to talk to her this way, too, always so high and mighty. Nothing had changed.
Lily's eyes were full of mockery, "Making me apologize to Sophie again. Was I born just to apologize to Sophie?"
"I'm doing this for your own good!"
"You really look like you're doing this for my own good, but I just find it disgusting!"
David was getting upset, "Lily, I'm giving you a chance!"
Dennis said arrogantly, "She doesn't need anyone to give her a chance!"
"Lily, you think you can get away with anything just because you have this man backing you up? This is Empire City, not that small town back home."
"You keep saying 'small town,' but David, don't forget, you came from that small town. People shouldn't forget their roots!"
Lily suddenly realized David had changed quite a bit.
Empire City really does blind people with wealth.
Dennis looked down at Lily, "If you're uncomfortable, you can leave anytime. I'll handle things here."
"No need for that trouble. Since they called the police and want to wait for them, let's wait."
Lily looked coldly at David, "By the way, you just said that intentionally hurting someone would result in a criminal record, right?"
"That's right. Are you scared now? Hurry up and leave that toy boy, come over and apologize to Sophie!"
"Apologize? Dream on!"
Lily wasn't scared at all.
Soon, the police arrived.
Sophie quickly played the victim, "It hurts so much."
David pointed at Lily, "This person hurt my sister."
Lily, since you did something wrong and refuse to admit it and apologize.
Then today, he would let the police teach Lily a good lesson, so she wouldn't cause bigger trouble in the future!
Sophie's eyes gleamed with satisfaction. Today, she would have the police take Lily away, and hopefully give her a criminal record.
Then, in the future, no matter what, Lily would never be able to compete with her.
Sophie said hypocritically on purpose, "Lily, I would have forgiven you if you'd just apologized, but you refuse to admit your mistake, so there's nothing I can do."
"Sophie, you're just too kind. Someone with Lily's personality doesn't deserve this from you."
"David, we're family after all. We can't just watch Lily go further down the wrong path!"
Sophie showed a pained but patient expression, looking innocent and naive.
After hearing the conversation, the police officer looked coldly at Lily, "Miss, you're suspected of intentional assault. Please come with us for questioning."
Dennis's expression instantly turned cold, "I'd like to see who dares to touch her!"
David sneered, "Toy boy, this is Empire City. Open your eyes!"
Dennis's eyes were calm, "So what!"
Lily held his hand and turned to the police, "Someone was indeed intentionally hurt here just now, but the culprit wasn't me. It was her!"
Lily pointed at Sophie.
Sophie suddenly felt guilty, "What... what are you talking about? You can't just blame me for avoiding responsibility."
Anyway, no one saw what happened, and no one would believe Lily!
David laughed angrily, "Lily, is this the confidence you've had all along for refusing to admit your mistake? Accusing Sophie of hurting you?"
Sophie's eyes filled with tears. "Lily, even though I didn't want to hold you responsible, you're going too far."
"Aren't you the ones going too far? You attacked first but accidentally fell down the stairs yourself, and now you're playing the victim and turning it around!"
Sophie felt guilty and lowered her head, not daring to speak.
David said angrily, "Lily, you're so disappointing. Still refusing to admit it!"
"I didn't do it, so why should I admit it? Do you have proof?"
David questioned, "Do you have proof that Sophie hit you first?"
"Yes, I do."
Lily laughed and moved aside, pointing at the wall, "Look, there's a surveillance camera in the hallway that captured the stairway."
When Sophie saw the camera, her face instantly turned deathly pale!
How could there be a camera?
Usually, there aren't cameras in stairwells. What's going on?
This is terrible. If they check the footage, won't everything be exposed?
Sophie panicked. Michael's attitude toward her had already changed. If she lost David's trust, too, she'd be finished.
Lily's eyes were cold. "Once we check the surveillance footage, the truth will come out."
Dennis stood nearby and glanced at Lily. No wonder she was so confident—she was prepared all along!
"David, forget it. This is all my fault. Even though I'm hurt, we're family. There's no need to go through all this trouble and waste police resources!"
Seeing things going wrong, Sophie quickly grabbed David's hand, looking panicked, "I suddenly feel dizzy and nauseous. David, take me to the hospital."
Lily smiled mockingly, "Stop right there. Trying to run?"
No way!
