Chapter 8 CHAPTER 08
I started to cry. Hawk came over to me and told Joe he would take me back up.
"No!" I cried. They both looked at me.
"What happened, Clare?" Hawk asked.
"Raven and her wolf are mean and bullies." I told him.
"You had an argument?" Hawk asked.
"She was telling me lies, and her wolf came forward and growled at me." I told him.
They both took me back to the room. When we went inside, Raven was in her pajamas, and she looked like she was asleep. Hawk went over to her and woke her.
"Raven, what did you say and do to upset Clare so much?" He asked her.
"We were just talking about mates. She got mad and ran out. Sorry Clare, if I upset you, it was not my intention. You're my best friend in the whole world." Raven said
"See, it was just a misunderstanding, Clare."
I looked over at Raven, and she was smirking at me. As soon as Hawk turned back to her, she had an innocent smile on her face. That is when Darlene came back in, and Hawk explained we had a misunderstanding.
"Well, I'm staying in here now. I need the rest." Darlene said. Hawk said good night to Raven, and Darlene then took me in the hall.
"Sweetheart, Raven is going through a lot of changes. Please try and be patient with her. Can you do that for me?" He asked. I could not say no.
"I will, you believe me, right?" I asked.
"Yes, sweetheart. Always." He said kissed my forehead and took me back in the room. Night everyone," he said when he went out the door. I felt all fuzzy and warm inside he believed me. He actually kissed my forehead. He had never done that before ever. I crawled into bed smiling. I looked over at Raven she had all the stuff out of her bag again. This time, she was leaving stuff out on the bed. When she was done, she put the stuff she did not pack on the dressers with a note. I would make sure to read it tomorrow. Darlene said it was lights out. I said good night to her. Raven said thank you for all the trouble you went through for me. Then she started singing and softly and braiding her hair. She really did have a beautiful voice.
HAWKIN'S POV
I rolled over and saw the sun was up. I got up and quietly went downstairs. Everyone was still asleep. I put on a pot of coffee in the house kitchen and watched the snow outside the kitchen window. I had not slept much. What happened with Raven and Clare last night had me confused, Raven was changing, and I did not like how she treated Clare last night. I was pretty sure Clare did not tell me everything. A simple disagreement would not have given her the fear I saw in her eyes. Raven must have said or done something that made Clare so afraid. If Darlene had not been going to bed, I would never have got Clare to stay in the room. I would listen more today to what they talk about.
"Raven is more than what you have seen." Thunder, my wolf said.
"Why have you been so quiet for the past few days?" I asked him.
"Observing, talking to their wolves." He said, stretching and getting up."
"Who's wolves?"
"Raven's wolf Spirt and Clare's wolf Grace." He yawned.
"Well! Are you going to tell me," I asked. I hated it when he did this stretching out thing and did not directly give me the answers to my questions.
"Clare's wolf is sweet and strong. Raven's wolf is powerful and strong. She has an attitude with a mean streak in her." Thunder scoffed.
"They are learning who they are. Raven and her wolf are different from other wolves."
"Mate or not, I will be happy if you just keep Clare Hawkins." He said.
"You want me to reject her?" I asked.
"Yes, they are trouble," he said.
"What if I can't?" I asked him.
"I will not mark her; I want nothing to do with her unless she becomes a better person and wolf. You're on your own." Thunder said, then laid down and ignored me.
"You going to just stand there, or are you getting coffee, Hawk?" Joe asked.
"Sorry," I said and moved from the coffee pot. I was not in the mood for anything.
"You did not sleep much, something bothering you?" Joe asked. I nodded. I was about to say something when Darlene came into the kitchen with the girls. Raven ignored me and sat at the kitchen table with her note pad and was writing something. Clare came over and hugged me.
"Good morning she said shyly.
"Good morning Clare, did you sleep well?" I asked, hugging her back.
"Yes." She said and stood beside me.
""I slept well, thank you." Raven said. Clare did not sit down until I did. She made sure Raven was on the opposite side of me. Like I was a shield from Raven. I had to find out more about what happened. Joe had left the kitchen to take a call. He just came back in. Jessica will be here in about an hour, but I have a bit af bad news. We will have to stay another night. Jessica just told me we are getting about eight to ten inches of snow in the next twenty-four hours. Everyone but the girls will have to help keep the snow shovel away from the four trucks. I don't feel like getting snowed in. Everyone in agreement?" Joe asked. We all agreed. Raven looked upset, but there was nothing we could do.
"May I be excused, please?" Raven asked.
"You never ate anything, Raven." I said.
"I'm just not hungry right now, Hawkins." She said. I looked at her. I was pretty sure she could read my face.
"Wait just a minute. I wish to talk to you." I told her. She looked angry now..
"Can it wait until later?" She asked.
"No, Raven, we need to talk now." I told her sternly. I got up and rinsed my cup and placed it on the counter.
"Clare, stay here with Darlene for now, please. I will return in a bit." I said. Then, I pointed up the stairs to the bedroom they were using. Raven stomped up the stairs. I did not like this attitude of hers. We went into the room, and I closed the door. Raven went and sat on the bed facing away from me. I was not going to get anything from with her by yelling, so I took a deep breath before I spoke to her.
"Raven, can I sit beside you?" I asked.
"Whatever!" Raven replied. I took another deep breath and went and sat down beside her.
"I like your hair. How many braids do you have now?" I asked. She just shrugged.
