Chapter 7 CHAPTER 07
The Golden Bear told me to tell you she has some stuff for you."
"Roger that, out."
"It did not take long to get to the truck stop. Tank and golden bear were standing by their trucks. I pulled up along side there trucks.
"Hawk, wake Raven. Then, the three of you put on those coats and come outside." I told him before I jumped out. Golden bear gave me a hug and Tank, and I clasped arms.
"Darlene, I need you to get a hold of Hailey for me. One of the girls has some special powers," I told her and wrote out a list in a text message to her what I had observed so far. Darlene and Tank read it.
"Wow, I have not heard of anyone doing that in a long time. Have you seen a difference in her eyes?" Darlene asked.
"No, not yet, I will let you know." I told her.
Hawk and the two girls got out of the truck and came over to us. I introduced everyone, and we all went into the diner together. I looked around the place, it had not changed. I could still see Jessica running out of the kitchen to greet me. I went to my usual table. Tank and Hawk sat with me, and Darlene took the table behind me with the girls. Trevor came out of the kitchen, wiping his hand on his apron.
"Sorry, folks, was just doing up dishes," he said, then looked up.
"I be dam, Joe, where is Jessica?" He asked, coming over to greet me. We clasped arms.
"She will be here tomorrow. Mind if we use a couple of spare bedrooms on the house for our packages?" Hawk looked at me strange.
"Never an issue, Maggie will be up from the cellar in a minute. Hope you're all hungry." Trevor said, smiling. He went back into the kitchen whistling to himself. Darlene laughed at the look on Tanks face.
"A long time ago, Jessica owned this diner until Joe finally got her to sell and go home with him." She explained.
"Joe, why do you call us a package?" Hawk asked.
"That is our code that we are transporting people we don't want others we know have. If someone hits our channel on the C.B. radio, they think we are just transporting physical boxes, etc." I told him. He nodded and sipped the coffee Trevor had just brought us.
"So, the present owner helps out? Are they like us?" Hawk asked. I smiled.
"Actually, Trevor and Maggie are humans and a hundred percent trustworthy." I told him.
Maggie came running out of the kitchen. I stood up and gave her a hug.
"About time you stopped this way, Joe. Good to see you again, Darlene. I see you have a new guy here. Nice to meet you. I will go fix up the rooms. I can put the three ladies in one room, and you men can have the other. We just got extra single beds for the rooms. I've been busy, you know." Maggie rambled so fast and went to go like a woman on a mission.
"Mags, this is Tank. Yes, he is new. Slow down. It is still early." I hugged her again. She smiled and ran off.
"She is always on the go, Joe. She likes to keep busy. I have asked her a hundred times to slow down, but she is like a mother hen. Everything has to be done first before she will sit down and relax." Darlene said.
We all ate, then Darlene took the girls upstairs, where they had showers and relaxed on the real bed. Darlene had brought the girls under things and pajamas.
CLARE'S POV
I know when we were back at the pack house, I was always quiet around Hawkins. But when he took us away, I had more trust in him to protect us. I opened up more to him. Where Raven started to become more distant and not just to Hawk but to me too. I'm pretty sure she talked to her wolf a lot.
Some things about her were changing. She didn't smile as much as she used to. We used to talk about everything, but now she was either on her phone or talking to her wolf. She was not eating much. I saw her unpacking and then repacking her bag. I wondered what she was looking for, had she forgotten something.
Darlene came in with hot chocolate and fresh peanut butter cookies out of the oven. We both thanked her. She said she would be back up in an hour. Raven never touched the hot chocolate or cookies.
"Raven, are you ok?" I finally asked.
"Yah, great." She answered. Then she went back to writing in her little notebook she had.
"Clare, you know what the mate bond is, right?" She asked me. I wondered why she was asking me about that. Grace, my wolf, told me to ignore her.
"Grace, that is not very nice, you know. She is obviously having a hard time with this trip." I told her.
"Her wolf is rude and shuts me down when I try to talk to her," Grace told me. I thought that it was strange.
"Well? Do you?" Raven asked, frustrated.
"Of course, I know what it is. Raven, why are you asking me that?" I asked.
"Because you're not acting like a girl who has a mate." Raven said. I laughed, which made her mad.
"I thought you had more brains in your head, Clare," Raven said, looking at me like she did not know me.
"I'm sure I will know when I find my mate, Raven." Now Raven was laughing, but it was a mean laugh.
"Really, Clare, your mate is right under your nose, and you don't even know it. Maybe your wolf is Dum." She said, glaring at me. I stood up from the bed with my hands on my hips and glared right back at her.
"If you are so smart, who is my mate?" I asked, angry at her.
"Hawkins is your mate stupid." Raven said.
"I don't know where you got that idea, but it ips a lie he is not my mate." I screamed at her.
She turned her head to look at me. Her eyes were no longer blue but a violet color. I stepped back, shocked. Was that her wolf.
"He is your mate, Clare, now leave me along." She said with a growl. Her wolf terrified me, and I ran from the room. Hearing Raven started to laugh a wicked laugh as I ran down the stairs to Hawk. I got to the bottom of the stairs and could not see anyone.
"Hello, where did everyone go?" I called out.
No one answered. We had been told to stay in our room, and here I was wondering the house looking for Hawk. I went down the shot hall to the diner’s kitchen and was about to open the door when I heard Hawk and Joe behind me.
"Clare, why are you out of your room?" Joe asked.
