Chapter 160
Chapter 160
Wendi
Even for a Saturday night, the line to get into Du Wolf Club just seemed extreme. Wendi was convinced it was wrapped all the way around the block. When she and the Twins had stopped by earlier in the night, they had honestly planned to just smooze some of the VIP’s and be on their way.
It quickly turned into an all-hands-on deck kind of night. It was taking almost all of their resources just to keep up with security. Alex was working the VIP rooms, while Leo worked the VIP door. Wendi was acting as a psudo waitress, by helping to serve drinks in some of VIP rooms. They had called in everyone but they still felt shorthanded. Even Grace’s mate who was normally the manager, was working behind the bar. He told Wendi he didn't remember the club ever being this busy.
About halfway through the night, Wendi decided she could use a break from rubbing elbows with the elite and went to check on Leo. On her way to the velvet curtain, she stopped by the bar and picked him up a Long Island iced tea. She was almost to him when she noticed Lizzie from the office and a group of her posse standing a little too close to Leo. He was paying them very little attention as he checked IDs and ushered people into the club.
Leo was casually seated on a backless bar stool. One of his feet rested on the floor, while the other was bent so that his foot was on a brace that held the legs of the stool. He looked like the cover of one of her smutty romance novels
The group of girls was preening and strutting, trying very hard to get his attention. Several had pulled their dresses down, so their cleavage spilled out the top, while others hiked their dresses up to show just a little bit too much leg. Suddenly one of the ladies from Lizzie group bumped Leo just a bit too conveniently for Wendi’s comfort.
Leo reached out to steady her and she dramatically dropped into his embrace. He seemed genuinely startled as he tried to help the woman back to her feet. However, the woman just threw her arms around his neck and nuzzled to his chest. She inhaled his scent and ran her nose along his jawline while pretending to be intoxicated .
“Oh thank you for saving me.” She said as she leaned into his neck. She was so close that as he talked her lips brushed his skin like she was kissing him.
Leo was struggling as he tried to detangle himself from her. He pushed her away but she clung to him. He tried to stand up, but the woman just turned so that she tripped him. She forced him back onto the stool and she straddled his bent knee. “Hold me,” she cried. “I feel so dizzy.” The woman dropped her head onto Leo’s shoulder and hugged his neck.
“Let go!” He demanded as he tried to free himself without hurting her.
“I need you” she cried out again as she pressed her forehead to his cheek and began to stroke his neck with her fingers.
Wendi lost her mind. She didn't know how else to explain it. One minute she's calmly watching, and the next she was moving. She simply walked up and threw Leo’s drink right into the woman’s face, soaking both her and Leo in Long Island iced tea.
“Get your hands off my fated mate.” Wendi hissed as Leo continued to try to fight the woman off of him. His eyes were huge as he saw Wendi's enraged face. He reached up and wiped the alcohol away from his alarmed eyes.
The woman stood up and pretended to stumbled. “Sorry, He never mentioned he had a woman. I didn't know he was mated. He doesn't have a mark or ring.” She said in a snotty insincere voice.
“Take a hike.” Wendi growled. Lizzie looked like she wanted to say something but instead the group of girls walked away whispering.
“Cariad, I….” Leo started to say before Wendi held her hand up to silence him.
“I just can’t right now,” she said as she turned around and began to walk away. She heard Leo yell for the nearest security guard and ask him to take over while he went to the bathroom to clean up.
Wendi felt like she was wondering aimlessly as she made her way back towards the bar. Her heart was thudding out of her chest and she wasn't thinking straight. She knew Leo wasn't to blame for what happened, but it was the second time in less than a week she had found him in another woman's arms. She already had inadequacy issues and this was doing nothing but making them one hundred times worse. She felt like she was being ripped apart inside.
Maybe Adam had been right. No matter what she did, Wendi would always be just a human girl. She was starting to doubt she had what it took to be a Luna. Maybe the mate bond wasn't enough. Constantly feeling she was fighting against she-wolves for her own mate’s attention was exhausting. She was beginning to think it was all just too much.
Wendi was watching her feet as her mind whirled. She was paying no attention to her path. Suddenly, Wendi felt like she had just been crashed into by a bulldozer.
“Watch it Fatty,” She heard a female voice hiss.
Wendi looked up and realized she was surrounded by Lizzie, the Long Island iced tea girl, and several of their friends.
“Well, look who we have here, I found the Twin’s human plaything.” Lizzy said. “I would have thought you would have realized you aren’t wolf enough for them and just gone home by now.” Lizzie let out of fake laugh. “How many times are you going to have to find him the arms of another woman before you get the message, he doesn't really want you. He won't even let you mark him.”
Wendi didn't even bother to answer, she just turned to walk away. But the woman she threw the drink on grabbed her arm and spun her around.
“She can pretend to be Luna all she wants, but I felt the way the Alpha's body responded to me. He was hard as a rock. He wanted me.” She said.
Wendi wanted to punch her. She wanted her to punch her so bad, it hurt. But she was in a club full of people, and she knew there was no way she could win against Lizzie’s whole crew. Wendi didn’t even have a weapon.
“Don't worry Tara, he'll get bored playing games with 'The Whale' soon enough. I mean he doesn't even respect her enough to bother completing the bond. He'll discard her in a matter of weeks, and then he'll be begging to be in your bed.” Lizzy said.
Wendi began to grind her teeth. She was already upset and this was really going too far.
