Chapter 161: Guarding Outside the Ward

Chapter 161: Guarding Outside the Ward

After Austin ended the call, he quickly arrived at the hospital parking lot.

He parked the car and hurried toward the entrance of the inpatient building, making a phone call as he walked.

"I hope your police department can handle this quickly and find the culprit as soon as possible."

"Don't worry, Mr. Raymond, we'll do everything we can to track down the culprit."

Austin took the elevator to the floor where Ella was staying and immediately spotted the two bodyguards at her room door.

One of the bodyguards quickly came over and said respectfully.

"Mr. Raymond, we're really sorry. We truly didn't expect this culprit to be so cunning."

Austin glanced at the bodyguard, noticing the dried blood still on his forehead, and the words of blame died on his lips.

"Go get that wound treated right away and have someone else come over."

"Thank you, Mr. Raymond. I'll arrange it right now."

Austin stood at Ella's hospital room door and asked the other bodyguard about the situation inside.

The bodyguard answered honestly. Austin reached out to knock on the door, but his hand hung in mid-air without falling.

Ella must have been frightened and had finally gotten some rest - better not to disturb her.

Austin turned and sat down on the bench outside Ella's room.

"Mr. Raymond, aren't you going in?" After waiting a while, the bodyguard gathered the courage to ask.

"Keep it down. It's already this late - don't disturb Ella's rest." Austin lowered his voice.

The bodyguard immediately shut his mouth and could only stand quietly by his side.

Austin figured even if he went home, he wouldn't be able to sleep anyway. It was more reassuring to stay here and keep watch.

Meanwhile, Carol learned that the person she hired had failed again. Feeling inexplicably panicked, she roared angrily into the phone.

"Didn't you say this time was foolproof? How did you fail again? You're useless. Don't ever call yourself a professional hitman in front of me again."

"I didn't expect that Ella would wake up at the critical moment, and there were bodyguards watching her. I even got injured because of it."

"Are you saying she's already on guard now? Have you been exposed?" Carol asked worriedly.

"I shouldn't be exposed. I was wearing a mask the whole time, and the car I used was a scrapped vehicle - there's no way they can trace it back to me."

"Just to be safe, you should lay low for a while. I'm warning you, don't get exposed, or we're both done for."

"Alright, I got it. I'll hide out for a while."

After Carol ended the call, she felt like something was about to happen. Her heart grew more and more anxious, and she couldn't sleep at all that night.

Inside the hospital room, when Ella groggily opened her eyes, it was already daylight. She heard Sarah's concerned voice by her ear.

"Ella, you're awake? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"

"The dizziness and nausea are much better. I should be fine now."

As she spoke, Ella sat up and was about to get out of bed. Sarah hurried over to support her.

"I'm fine, you don't need to be so nervous. I'm not that fragile." Ella said with a smile.

"That won't do. The doctor said we must watch you carefully. What if you get dizzy and fall? Where are you going? Let me help you."

"I'm just going to the bathroom. I can manage on my own."

Although Ella said this, Sarah still wasn't at ease and helped her to the bathroom.

After coming out of the bathroom, Ella opened the hospital room door, wanting to stretch her legs and walk around the corridor.

But as soon as she opened the door, Sarah exclaimed in surprise.

"Austin, what are you doing here? What do you want now?"

Ella followed Sarah's gaze and saw Austin sitting on the bench outside her room.

Austin stood up and looked Ella up and down, his eyes full of concern as he asked.

"Ella, how are you feeling?"

Ella didn't answer him but asked instead.

"What are you doing here? Why do you keep haunting me?"

"I heard you had an incident last night, so I came over. I thought you were asleep, so I didn't disturb you."

Sarah looked at Austin with surprise, asking somewhat incredulously.

"Don't tell me you were here last night? You sat here all night?"

Austin glanced at Sarah but didn't answer. Instead, he looked at Ella and said.

"I came to tell you that my bodyguard got some evidence, and I've already informed the police."

"That person's forehead was injured by my bodyguard. I've already sent people to check all the hospitals in the city to see if there are any patients who came in with head injuries."

"Hopefully, we can find the culprit through this lead."

Hearing him say this, and considering that Austin was here to help her, Ella swallowed the harsh words she was about to say.

"I understand. Thanks, Mr. Raymond. You and your people can leave now."

Ella coldly dropped this line and turned back into the hospital room with Sarah.

Looking at the tightly closed door, Austin let out a heavy sigh and gave his orders.

"Hide yourselves well and don't let her discover you. I still don't feel at ease."

"Understood, Mr. Raymond. We'll hide as best we can and not let Ms. Brooks find out."

Austin nodded, glanced at the room door, and left the hospital with tired steps.

In the car on the way back, Austin made a phone call and asked coldly.

"Are the test results out? What kind of drug was it exactly?"

"Wait a moment, I'll check with the lab. When the results are ready, I'll let you know."

Austin ended the call and waited patiently. Thinking of the gauze on Ella's head and everything she'd been through recently, his brow furrowed.

Just then, his phone rang. Austin quickly answered.

"Well?"

"Mr. Raymond, the test results are out. It's a new type of chemical drug. Just a few milliliters injected into the body can cause cardiac arrest."

"I'll immediately order an investigation into the source of this drug to see if we can find the culprit through this lead."

"Good! Got it! Make sure to take this seriously and solve the case quickly."

"I'll pass that down."

Austin suddenly remembered that Judith had targeted Ella several times. Could Judith be behind this?

With this sudden thought, Austin picked up his phone and gave orders.

"Check all of Judith's movements recently, as well as her call and transaction records. See if there's anything suspicious."

Last time Judith came to see him and he turned her away, he was afraid she might hold a grudge and take it out on Ella.

Back at the hospital, Ella returned to her room and sat in a chair.

Sarah poured her a cup of warm water and handed it over.

"Ella, I really don't know what Austin is thinking. He treated you so coldly before, but after the divorce, he keeps pestering you."

"He told me before that he wants to start over with me. He also learned what kind of person Judith really is. I turned him down."
