Chapter 160 Almost Poisoned

Chapter 160 Almost Poisoned

It seemed like someone had walked in. Ella thought it must be a nurse doing rounds, so she didn't pay much attention.

Half-asleep, she opened her eyes and saw a person in a white coat holding a syringe, pushing medication into her IV line.

Ella suddenly realized what was happening. She snapped her eyes wide open, sat up, and shouted.

"Who are you? What are you doing?"

The person got startled and dropped the syringe on the floor.

Ella instinctively yanked the needle out of her hand.

At the same time, the person turned and ran. Sarah heard the commotion and saw someone rush out.

"Ella, what happened?" Sarah asked anxiously.

"That person was trying to hurt me."

Hearing this, Sarah immediately ran out. When she got to the doorway, she looked down both ends of the hallway.

The person was nowhere to be seen. They had already disappeared without a trace.

Ella was now covered in cold sweat, with tiny beads of perspiration on her forehead.

Sarah quickly went back into the room and pressed the call button.

"Ella, how do you feel? I'll call the doctor right away."

Sarah then noticed the syringe on the floor. She bent down and picked it up.

"I should be fine. I pulled the needle out. If I'd been any later, it could have been dangerous."

"I'm sorry, Ella. It's my fault for falling asleep."

Sarah looked guilty and quickly grabbed tissues from the bedside table to wipe the blood seeping from Ella's hand.

"It's not your fault. That person came in wearing a doctor's uniform. They must have been a bad person in disguise."

Just then, the nurse on duty came to the room and asked.

"Do you need help? Are you feeling unwell?"

"Someone just came into our room and injected something into this IV line," Sarah answered.

The nurse's face went pale with shock. She quickly tried to reassure them.

"I'll go get the doctor right away. Don't worry."

The nurse rushed out, and soon two doctors on duty came in.

They examined Ella and asked detailed questions.

"Good thing you reacted quickly. As for who did this, our hospital will definitely investigate thoroughly."

"Get someone to check the surveillance footage right away—the hallway and stairwell cameras. Find out who this person was," the doctor immediately ordered.

"Ella, I think we should report this to the police and let them get involved. Our hospital will fully cooperate," the other doctor suggested.

"Ella, I think this doctor is right. We should also give these things to the police for testing. That would put my mind at ease," Sarah said.

"Okay, whatever you think," Ella nodded.

Sarah quickly took out her phone and called the police again.

Who would have thought that in one day, Ella would nearly lose her life twice?

The same two officers from before came to the hospital again.

Seeing it was Ella again, they asked about what happened and took the IV line and syringe with them.

"We'll take these back for testing. When we have results, we'll notify you right away."

"We'll also investigate and collect evidence from the hospital's surveillance. I suspect this might be the same group of people."

"Thank you, officers. I think so too. I hope you can find the culprit soon," Ella said gratefully.

"No need to thank us. It's our job. Since people have repeatedly tried to harm you, I suggest you be extra careful. If you notice anything suspicious, contact us again."

After giving more instructions, the two officers left the room and followed a doctor to check the surveillance footage.

Sarah was shaken. She sat by Ella's bed and said.

"Ella, you should rest. I'm not sleeping anymore. I'll just sit here and watch over you."

"That's not necessary. Let's lock the door. I don't want the IV anymore. You should sleep."

"How can I sleep? I'm scared to death. I'm such a terrible caretaker," Sarah said, full of self-blame.

"Don't say that. Nothing happened to me, right? I'm actually worried about getting you involved."

Ella really felt this way. She was now regretting having Sarah come.

Austin was jolted awake from his sleep by an urgent phone ringtone.

He quickly grabbed his phone and saw it was a call from the two bodyguards he had assigned to Ella.

The two bodyguards had actually been stationed at a corner in the hospital hallway, keeping watch on Ella's room.

They had clearly seen a person in a white coat enter Ella's room, assuming it was a doctor doing rounds.

So they didn't pay attention. But then they saw the person in the white coat run out of Ella's room in a panic.

One of the bodyguards chased after them, all the way to the hospital entrance, where he caught up with the attacker.

The two of them fought. In the heat of the moment, the bodyguard picked up a rock and threw it.

The attacker got hit hard on the head, and their temple started bleeding.

Just as the bodyguard was about to capture them, the person had backup—someone with a stick who swung it at the bodyguard's head.

The bodyguard was injured on the head, and by the time he tried to chase them again, the two had already escaped.

That's when he called Austin. Hearing the bodyguard's account, Austin shouted anxiously.

"What about Ella? How is Ella now?"

"I haven't gone back to the hospital yet. I don't know the situation right now. I'll report to you shortly."

"Get back there quickly and tell me what's going on. I'm heading over now."

Austin ended the call while speaking, quickly got out of bed, got dressed, grabbed his car keys, and rushed out the door, heading straight to the hospital.

It was already past 2 a.m., and there were very few cars on the streets.

Austin was desperate to see Ella. Only by seeing with his own eyes that Ella was safe would he feel at ease.

He floored the gas pedal, speeding through the night. Then his phone rang, and Austin quickly activated the car phone.

"What's the situation now?"

"Mr. Raymond, Ms. Brooks is fine now. I just found out that the person was apparently trying to poison the medication Ms. Brooks was being injected with."

"What did you say? Poison!"

Austin's heart lurched. He couldn't imagine what deep grudge these people had against Ella that they would want her dead.

"Mr. Raymond, don't worry. Ms. Brooks was smart—she pulled the needle out right away. The medication wasn't injected into her body."

"Ms. Brooks also called the police, I think. The police are investigating."

"I know. I'm on my way. You two stay right outside the room, don't leave for a second."

"Anyone who wants to enter the room must prove their identity first," Austin ordered coldly.

"Understood, Mr. Raymond. We're already at the door."
