Chapter 651 I Don't Need a Check

Just then, my phone buzzed. I glanced at it and saw a message from Sienna.

[It's Matthew. I lost my phone.]

Suddenly, everything clicked into place. It seemed like Victoria had stolen Matthew's phone. Thinking back, someone who could leave a thong in Matthew's car could definitely pull off something like this.

"Emily, are you still listening?"

Victoria was starting to suspect I wasn't paying attention since I hadn't spoken for a while. I quickly responded, "Yeah, I'm listening."

"If you're listening but not saying anything, it means you agree. Fine, I'll give you the check, and you can ask for more if you want. I can meet your demands."

I was taken aback. I had been so focused on the message that I hadn't heard what Victoria was saying. But from her words, I deduced that she was bringing up the old topic of wanting me to leave Matthew again. Otherwise, she wouldn't be talking about giving me a check.

I thought about it. I was really short on money right now. DreamBuild Group had bought raw materials from Vanguard Innovations Group at double the price, so DreamBuild Group was still in a loss. This check could give me some breathing room.

But I still refused, just like I had refused Carol before. Even though I needed money, there were some things I couldn't accept, and I didn't want to.

"No need for the check. I don't want it."

With that, I hung up the phone.

I immediately called Sienna.

"Emily, Matthew has gone to DreamBuild Group to pick you up."

Sienna's voice sounded weak. I thought she might be sick and asked with concern, "Why do you sound so tired? Are you sick?"

"You woke me up from my sleep. What's with you two? Every time I just fall asleep, you wake me up. It's too much."

Sienna's voice was so loud it hurt my ears. I quickly moved the phone away a bit.

"Emily, if you two keep this up, I'll start listening to Carol and compete with you for Matthew."

Sienna's sudden comment left me stunned. Although it sounded like a joke, I could tell she was using a joking tone to cover up a serious truth.

I thought for a moment and then laughed, "I know you're the best sister. Tell me, how many meals do I owe you?"

"Smart move. You have to treat me until I'm happy. I know you are not treating me tonight. How about tomorrow night? Don't worry, I was just joking earlier."

Sienna laughed too, and I breathed a sigh of relief. Even though she said she was joking, I knew she wasn't. If I hadn't thought of a way to make it up to her, Sienna might really start listening to Carol and go after Matthew.

It might seem ridiculous, but knowing Sienna, she was definitely capable of doing something like that.

After hanging up, I wanted to leave quickly to find Matthew. Without his phone, he might already be waiting for me at the DreamBuild Group entrance.

To prevent Matthew from worrying, I called Kimberly to ask her to let Matthew know I was on my way.

Kimberly said, "Sure, I'll tell Willard to let Matthew know."

"What? Why tell Willard?"

I asked in surprise.

"Willard is chatting with Matthew right now."

Willard and Matthew chatting? Considering their previous encounters, which were always confrontational, I couldn't imagine what their conversation would be like. I thought about calling Willard but decided against it. I didn't want to cause any misunderstandings.

As long as Matthew knew roughly when I'd arrive, that was enough. The rest could wait until I got there.
