Chapter 633 Victoria, What a Coincidence!
"What?"
I stared at Maria, confused. Why was she bringing this up now? I had already turned down Victoria's invitation.
Seeing my reaction, Maria quickly checked her phone's notes and said, "Emily, did you forget? I told you a few days ago that we were invited to the grand opening of the Aurora Glow, a jewelry store, and you agreed to go."
With Maria's reminder, it clicked. I vaguely remembered agreeing to something like that. Lately, I'd been so distracted that I must have agreed without thinking. I hadn't realized it was connected to Victoria.
Thinking back to how Victoria looked when I turned down her invitation, I frowned. She must have known Maria accepted on my behalf and asked me again just to see me squirm.
"Fine, let's see what you're up to," I muttered, my face cold.
Maria looked at me curiously and asked, "What did you say, Ms. Johnson?"
"Nothing. Let's head back and get some rest," I replied, shaking my head.
Maria and I returned to the Seraphic Heights Hotel, where we were staying. I had intentionally let Victoria leave alone earlier. Coincidentally, as we walked into the lobby, we ran into Victoria. She was wearing a hat and sunglasses, clearly trying to avoid being recognized.
Since she didn't want to be recognized, I wasn't about to let her have her way. I called out loudly, "Victoria, what a coincidence!"
Hearing my voice, Victoria, who had been walking with her head down, turned around. Her expression darkened as the reporters who had been lurking nearby swarmed around her, blocking her path completely.
I waved at Victoria with a smile and then got into the elevator with Maria. As the doors closed, I could still hear the reporters bombarding Victoria with questions. One question, in particular, caught my attention.
"Is it true that you're in a new relationship? Can you tell us more about it?"
A reporter thrust a microphone in Victoria's face.
Victoria glanced towards the elevator. Even from a distance, I could see the cunning in her eyes as she smiled and said, "Yes, I am in a relationship. But to protect my boyfriend's privacy, I can't share any details."
Inside the elevator, Maria had clearly heard Victoria's response too. She excitedly said, "Emily, did you hear that? Victoria has a boyfriend! That's big news. I wonder who the lucky guy is."
I snorted and replied irritably, "Probably someone blind enough to date Victoria."
Seeing my displeasure, Maria pouted and fell silent.
We each went to our rooms to rest. While I was getting ready for bed, there was a knock on my door. Looking through the peephole, I saw Victoria standing there with her arms crossed. She said, "Emily, open the door. I know you're in there. I heard your footsteps."
I hesitated for a moment but eventually opened the door.
"What was that about? You live here too, so why did you leave me to come back alone? And you did that on purpose just now, didn't you?" Victoria demanded, clearly upset.
I nodded nonchalantly and said, "Yes, I did it on purpose."
Victoria opened her mouth, clearly furious and ready to say something, but I didn't give her the chance. I closed the door in her face.
"Emily, if you have any guts, stop playing these petty games. It's pathetic," Victoria shouted, kicking the door.
I calmly replied, "You should leave. If you keep yelling, security will come, and tomorrow's headlines will be about a celebrity screaming at someone through a hotel door."
