Ruby's smile grew wider. "You see, Hayley, Aiden's not as perfect as you thought."

But Aiden just shook his head. "That's not what it looks like, Hayley. I can explain."

I looked at him, unsure of what to believe. "Explain," I said, my voice firm.

Aiden took a deep breath. "That video was taken out of context. I was trying to help someone, not hurt them."

I studied his face, looking for any sign of deception. But all I saw was sincerity.

"Tell me the truth," I said, my voice softer.

Aiden nodded. "I was working undercover, trying to take down a criminal organization. The video shows me with one of their members, but I was just trying to gain their trust."

I felt a wave of relief wash over me. I believed him.

But Ruby just laughed. "You're so naive, Hayley. You'll believe anything he tells you."

And with that, she turned and walked away, leaving us with more questions than answers.

But Aiden just put a hand on my arm. "Don't worry about her, Hayley. We have the truth on our side."

I nodded, taking a deep breath. "You're right. Let's focus on taking her down."

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hayley, it's Ruby," the voice on the other end said. "I know you know the truth now. And I'm not going down without a fight."

My heart sank. What did Ruby have planned?

I felt a chill run down my spine as Ruby's voice dripped with malice. "What do you want, Ruby?" I asked, trying to keep my cool.

"Oh, I just wanted to remind you that this isn't over," Ruby said. "Aiden may have won this battle, but I'll win the war."

I rolled my eyes. "You're not going to win anything, Ruby. You've lost."

Ruby's laughter sent shivers down my spine. "We'll see about that. You just wait and see."

I turned to Aiden, who was watching me with concern. "What did she say?" he asked.

I filled him in on the conversation, and his expression turned grim. "We need to be careful," he said. "Ruby's not going to give up easily."
