Chapter 79 Someone tampered with my car

Chapter 79 Someone tampered with my car
Someone tampered with my car

My food arrived 10 minutes after I placed the order, and I hurriedly ate it while checking the time. The last thing I needed was to arrive at their school late. I wanted to avoid getting my ears chewed by my babies, who always complained about how late I was to pick them up. They loved it whenever Brion picked them up because he was always on time. Not only that, but he takes them to get an ice cream each time. And that right there was the main reason. Unlike Brion, I hardly take them out to get ice cream unless I promised them prior to picking them up.

I exited the restaurant after tipping the server and security man by the door, humming as I walked over to my car. I still had 10 minutes to rush over to their school. Having eaten for 30 minutes, I had to use 5 minutes to rest.

Close to my car, I noticed something odd. There were handprints on the side of my door like someone leaned over it. Puzzled, I squatted in front of it, as my hand instinctively went to the tyre. I checked to see if it was deflated, but it wasn't. Yet, I couldn't shake off the feeling that someone had touched my car. The handprints weren't there when I left for work, and it certainly wasn't there when I left Dashiell's office. I would have known if there was.

Unlike Brion, I had this knack of knowing when something of mine was tampered with. You can ransack my room and keep them in order after that. It will only take a look for me to recognize someone touching it. Even if you kept them as I did before, I would still know.

Brion always joked about me having a 7th sense.

I fished my phone out of my pocket and called Brion. Like always, he picked up on the first ring.

"Hello, baby. What's up? Are you with the kids?"

"Not at all. I'm on my way to pick them up." I leaned on a car parked next to mine, still glaring at the handprints on my car. The person who touched it might have been in a hurry, or else they would have realized they left something behind.

"Oh." I heard the sounds of paper flipping. "Why did you call then? I know it's not to pick them up since you said you are on your way."

"Yeah. I have a reason."

"You missed me?" He guessed, chuckling. "I do too. You are not the only one. The kids miss you as well. They kept asking what type of work kept you away most nights. Mara too. The house hasn't been the same without you, Nova. When will you return?"

"I" I started to respond, but he interrupted me.

"Don't give me the trashy reply that you will return when you have exerted your revenge on him like you always do. I need a positive response, Nova. One that will make my heart soar."

"I'm sorry." I ran my fingers through my hair, still glaring at the fingerprints. "I know you believe I'm doing something dangerous, but you have got to trust me, Brion. I know what I'm doing?"

"Do you?"

He asked the same question as my heart as if he could tell what I was thinking.

"I do." Sighing, I checked the time on my wristwatch. "I think someone has tampered with my car," I said, cutting right to the chase because I knew he would only try to convince me as he had always done. This was the way with Brion.

"You car?!" He stopped flipping the paper. His side went silent, making me think he had disconnected. I had to check to be certain he was still on the line with me. "Tell me you are joking."

Someone tampered with my car

I'd watched enough crime movies to know that each time a car got tampered with, it brought nothing but trouble to the main lead. Trouble and death. "Okay. I will assign someone to check it out. Just take a cab to their school. Don't take the bus. You will only end up trekking for half the distance."

"Okay, I will. Please don't forget to send someone over. You still have the spare key, right?"

"Of course, I do. I take it with me wherever I go."

"Great."

"If only I wasn't packed with work, I would have hastened over to drive you. Save a trip, darling. I will check if I can slip out from work to accompany you and the kids."

"No, don't. You still have some work to do," I said, to discourage him from leaving. "I recognise you are one of the major shareholders in the company, but you can't do anything rash." "Don't worry about me. I know what to do. You know I can't miss the opportunity of seeing you back home. It has been a long time since we last saw each other, Nova. I don't want to miss that."

"Okay, suit yourself." I couldn't argue anymore, not with the way he sounded. It was as if he was a few minutes from bawling his eyes out. "Don't forget to check my car out. Love you." Blowing a kiss at him, I disconnected. Pocketing my phone, I hailed a cab, as Brion advised. He didn't even need to do that because I would not take the bus. I learned my lesson the day I took the bus home. I had to walk for a long time before I saw a cab. I couldn't even order a ride because of the location. It was either I took another bus, which would arrive in 20 minutes or I trekked. I took the latter. I trekked.
