Chapter 77

Finally, the day I was going to be meeting Sorin's parents and G.P Zaveri had come. It seemed like the days went by faster than normal. The dinner was slated to hold by 7:30pm but we had to leave earlier than the time because G.P Zaveri has been said to hate lateness more than anything. So, arriving late was something I was trying to avoid which was why I had started trying to get ready since 4pm, coupled with the fact that I truly had no idea of what to do to my face, especially with the different makeup products that were lying freely in front of me, on top of my vanity.

I wasn't the type to make myself up or make any extra effort to look good because I hardly left the house except when I was still going to school. I also

I wasn't used to going to dinners or meeting important people, especially someone of high calibre like G.P Zaveri, as he was fondly called by family. I had never met him and so, I was terribly nervous.

Sorin was somewhere else, probably in his study, getting ready too, I guess, since he had refused to stay in our room for a while. He would only come in to pick whatever he needed and would walk out immediately without looking at me. He had sent someone to inform me to get ready because we were leaving in two hour's time.

It was now an hour and thirty minutes since 4pm that I started to get ready, yet there had been no headway. I wasn't making any progress. I bit my fingernails nervously as I sat cluelessly in front of my mirror. I looked at my dress hanging perfectly behind me on the hanger, from the mirror and looked back to my face through the mirror.

“Gosh! I do not know what to do with myself right now. Are you not too clueless for a female, huh?” I said to myself as I began to feel frustrated at my cluelessness.

Right at that moment, there was a knock on the door.

“Yes? Come in.” I said, without asking who it was.

The door opened and Kelvin walked in.

“Oh my!” He exclaimed, “Hi ma'am.” He greeted me as I stood up to face him.

“You seem so surprised to see me, ma'am.” I said.

“I am actually, I won't lie.” He responded and just smiled lightly.

“I look crazy, right?” I asked but he was hesitant to answer.

“Please tell me the truth. I know I look crazy already. From the expression on your face, I know I look a mess right now.” I said and went back to sit.

“Do you need help?” He asked.

“Yes, please! I'm not used to this kind of life, I need help.” I quickly said.

“Alright, I'll be back.” He said, and in a few seconds, he was out of the room.

To my surprise, in a few minutes, he was back with a young beautiful lady, who for some reason, looked so familiar.

“This is Alice. When it comes to anything about makeup and fashion lifestyle, she's number one in the country. Her company is topping the charts in the fashion industry at the moment.” Kelvin said and she blushed, poking him in the side with her elbow.

“They must be very familiar with each other.” I thought to myself.

“Hi ma'am, just like Kelvin here has said, I'm Alice and I'm here to help you get dressed and prepared.” The young lady said with a big beautiful smile, snapping me out of my thoughts.

“Thank you so much.” I said to her.

“You look quite familiar but I don't know where I have seen your face, I can't seem to place it.” I said and watched her reaction.

“It must have been on TV, she is a big brand, you know.” Kelvin said.

“Wait, Alice Brenda Fashion?” I asked.

“Exactly.” Kelvin said.

“No way! So you are THAT Alice? Oh my God. I can't believe this.” I said in surprise and hugged her. “I've been a fan of your works for years, only that I don't get to see you that much.” I explained and then turned to look at Kelvin.

“How did you know I was going to need help? To cap it all, you also brought the biggest person I could never have imagined to meet. You're really a life saver.” I said to him.

“Actually, Mr Zaveri was the one who requested that I bring her here to help you.” He said.

“You mean, Sorin asked you to?” I asked, surprised.

“Yes, ma'am.” He replied, “Mr Sorin hates to have too many people around the house, which is why Alice had to come herself without her team.” He explained.

“Oh…” I said, and smiled awkwardly at the lady who was ready to begin work already.

“I'll leave you to do your work. I'll be outside if you need anything.” He said and walked out after we thanked him.

Alice gestured for me to sit in one of the chairs, which I did in silence.

“Do you have a particular look in mind?” She asked me but I just shook my head in confusion.

“Should I be worried?” I asked.

“Of course not. You don't need to worry, I know just the right thing to do.” She said, still with her big beautiful smile.

“Alright, thank you.” I said and she nodded her head in acknowledgement.

She soon began work. She started with styling my hair, while I just sat patiently, waiting for when she would announce that she was done.

She really was so good at what she was doing, because in less than twenty minutes, she was done styling my hair and next, she began my makeup. I watched as she combined what looked like different shades of powders together to get the right one that suited my skin tone and began applying the different products to my face.

“Wow, she really is a professional. How I wish I could be this good at just one thing in my life.” I thought to myself.

I guess I must have been so lost in my thoughts that I didn't realize that Alice was done and had been talking to me but I didn't hear, since I was far away in my thoughts. She tapped my shoulder gently and I jerked as I snapped out of my thoughts.

“Yes, I'm so sorry. I was so lost in my thoughts.” I said to her and she just smiled.

“You must have a lot on your mind, I guess.” She said and I nodded with a slight smile.

“I just feel like there is nothing I can do, like I'm good at nothing. Just look at you, doing so good at your craft. I was just wishing I could be just a little bit as good as you in one thing I know how to do. At least, I'll be accepted and I will be able to stand tall and not be useless and helpless.” I explained and as I spoke, my eyes were getting filled with tears.

“Oh no, please don't cry, you'll ruin your makeup.” She said, as she instantly grabbed a clean wipe and touched the tip of my eyes while I struggled with fighting the tears.

Thankfully, the wipes were able to catch the tears before it ruined my perfectly made up face.

“Don't worry, everything will fall in place. I also was like you many years ago. I was confused and frustrated but thankfully I was able to find what I loved doing and poured my heart into it, which is why my brand is what it has become today. So don't stress, you will figure it out. She encouraged me.

“Thank you.” I said, “I'm sorry I was being such a crybaby and almost ruined your work.” I apologized.

“Oh no, you don't have to be sorry. We all go through different times in our lives and most times all we need is someone who will hold our hands, look into our eyes and assure us that everything will be fine.” She said and I nodded.

I was so grateful that I spoke to her because it was like she gave me what I really needed. She told me the exact words I wanted to hear.

She helped me put my clothes on, and every other thing I was going to adorn myself with. In no time, we were done and set.

“Would you like to check yourself out in the mirror now?” She asked me.

“Yes, please.” I said nervously.

I walked up to the huge mirror and I could almost not believe that the person I was looking at was me.

“Oh my God! Wow! I can't believe this is me!” I exclaimed. “Thank you so much, I appreciate it.” I said and gave her a big hug of appreciation which she acknowledged with a smile.

Our little moment was interrupted by Sorin who barged in,

“What exactly are you still doing? What do you think you are doing, taking this much time? Do you think we have-” He became dumbfounded immediately when he saw me.
