Chapter 70

“What is happening all over again, Kelvin? Can you go straight to the point now, why are you beating around the bush for crying out loud!” Mr Zaveri yelled.

“What is going on? What is happening all over again?” An impatient Mrs Zaveri asked, making Kelvin pause once again.

“Wait, I hope it isn't what I'm thinking about?” Mrs Zaveri suddenly blurted out.

“Hold on for a moment, honey.” Her husband said. “Let me confirm what he means first.”

“Kelvin?” He called out to a silent Kelvin. “Are you still there?” He asked.

“Yes sir.” Kelvin responded.

“Tell me, what is going on with my son? Is it what we think it is?” He asked.

“I'm afraid, it is, sir.” Kelvin responded with a completely calm tone.

“Oh my God!” Mrs Zaveri yelled, indicating that she heard what he said loud and clear. “But why?” She asked as she began to sob quietly.

“Are you at home?” Mr Zaveri asked, trying to act strong.

“Yes sir.” Kelvin answered.

“Okay, we'll be there in a jiffy.” He said, and before Kelvin could say anything else, he ended the call.

Kelvin turned once again to look at Sorin who was still in another realm. He shook his head as he slipped his phone into his jacket's pocket.

He wished he could help Sorin but he knew there was nothing he could do. The only thing he could do was to sit and wait patiently for when Sorin was going to snap out of that phase, which he didn't know when exactly.

“Honey, we should be on our way right now, what are you still waiting for?” Mrs Zaveri yelled at her husband.

“Can you at least calm down. Everything will be fine.” He responded.

“Should we just take him to the hospital?” She asked.

“Nope, that will be a very bad idea. It will just attract unnecessary attention and you, of all people, should know that we do not want any bad press at this moment.”

“Why? Because of the business? Are you kidding me? So your business is much more important than the life and well-being of our only son? Really?” She screamed at him.

“What?” He yelled as he could not believe what he just heard. “How can you say such a thing? Huh? Is he not my son as well? Why are you speaking as if he is your son alone?” He said with a bit of disappointment in his tone and was about to walk away when she caught him by the hand.

“Honey, I'm so sorry. You know I didn't mean that. I'm just worried sick here.” She apologized.

“It's fine. You know how well known we are in the society, especially Sorin. So, going to the hospital will only spark rumours about his mental health and I do not want that to happen, which is why I'm asking that we be patient.” He explained, holding her hands.

“I understand. I'm just scared, honey. What if-”

“There are no what ifs, he will definitely be fine. I can assure you.” He immediately cut her off and gave her a reassuring smile.

One of the guards then knocked on the door,

“Yes, come in.” Mr Zaveri ordered and he immediately opened the door and bowed as he walked in.

“Sir, the car is ready.” He said.

“Alright.” He answered.

Turning to his wife, he asked, “Can we go now?”

“Sure, let's go.” She replied, getting up and they both walked out.

"Sir? Your parents are on their way here already. You don't want them to see you like this, do you?" Kelvin tried his luck once again but still no response came from Sorin.

A thought then struck his heart as he began to remember the first time it all happened. He began to piece the pieces together in order to find a solution.

He suddenly walked out of the study and towards the room where I was. As he knocked,

"Who is there?" The Doctor who had refused to leave the room, asked.

"It's Kelvin." He answered.

"Oh! Good. Please, come in." The doctor said with a little bit of excitement in his voice, leaving Kelvin wondering what was going on.

"Hi Doctor, what do you think we can do to help him? He has not responded since we-" He began speaking immediately as he walked in and suddenly stopped.

"Whoa!" He yelled immediately he saw that I was up. "You're awake? Oh my God! Wow!"

"Yes, she clearly is. I was surprised, I must say, but I'm glad too."

"Excuse me, am I missing something? What is going on? What are you both excited about?" I asked, holding my head.

"Are you alright, ma'am?" Kelvin asked.

"Yes, I am. Except that I'm having a slight headache." I said as I tried to sit up, and Kelvin turned to face the doctor.

"Oh, that's normal. She will be fine in no time." He assured and Kelvin nodded.

"You're yet to answer me, I just asked, what is going on? Does anyone want to tell me?" I asked again.

"Sorry about that ma'am. You were really stressed and unstable a few hours ago and I had to administer an injection which knocked you out completely. You just woke up now, earlier than I imagined you would. " He explained.

"Oh really?" I asked.

"Yes, I think that explains the slight headache but not to worry, you'll be fine immediately after you've rested well. " He said and I nodded.

"But where is Sorin?" I asked, looking around. "I thought he was here earlier. He was looking and sounding strange or am I mistaken?" I said, making the Doctor and Kelvin look at each other, without saying a word.

"Errrrmmmm... Hello?" I tried to call their attention.

"Did he go out? I thought we still had to have our meeting today?" I asked.

"Actually, he..." The Doctor began but before he could continue, Kelvin had started talking.

"He is not fine." Kelvin blurted out.

He wasn't sure if he was doing the right thing or saying the right thing because he knew that Sorin would never have wanted me to see him the way he was at the moment -weak and helpless, but there was nothing else he thought he could do to help Sorin aside trying to help him find any possible solution.

He thought that maybe, just maybe, if I heard about it, there might just be a change.

"What do you mean? Is he sick? Was he involved in an accident?" I kept asking questions after questions.

"No he wasn't involved in an accident, it...." He was still trying to explain when I cut him off.

"I want to see him right now." I said.

"You'll see him later but for now, you need to rest because you're still very weak." The doctor immediately said but I didn't care.

"Take me to him right now!" I ordered and Kelvin immediately looked at the doctor who nodded in agreement.

He then walked to bed to help me up. I was so sure of what was going through Kelvin's mind. He must have been wondering why I still wanted to see Sorin despite the fact that he always treated me like trash, like a piece of sh*t, attaching no importance to me at all.

I also didn't know why I was acting the way I did because if I was to act based on the way he has treated me so far, I sure would not give a damn about him but here I was, still weak, trying to ensure he was fine because I love him wholeheartedly- the kind of love I didn't know how to explain.

We soon got to his study. Kelvin knocked at the door once and opened the door to let us in, and there he was, still sitting in the same spot that Kelvin had left him and staring blankly into nothing in particular. It was almost like he had become a statue; A very handsome one at that.

"Kelvin?" I called out to him.

"Yes, ma'am?" He answered and turned to look at me.

"What is going on? Why is he like this? What happened to him?" I asked in a very hushed tone into Kelvin's ear.

"It is as a result of a traumatic experience he had some years ago and when it happened, he looked exactly like this too. Although, It's been a very long time since it happened, I think his trauma has been triggered. That's why he is like this. I was shocked when I saw it happening again."

"Trauma?" I asked, almost yelling.

"Yes, ma'am." He answered.

I looked back at Sorin and felt a kind of unexplainable feeling in my heart. "So the cold and stern Sorin could look weak and helpless." I thought to myself and I couldn't help but feel pity for him.

Though I didn't know the full details of his past experience, I knew it had to be something very serious, for it to weigh him down in this manner. I was determined to find out about it but that would be later. But for now, I needed to help him somehow.

I began to walk slowly towards him and in a few seconds I was right in front of him. I held his hands in mine and they were so cold, making me wonder why, because the heater was on and working perfectly.

"Sorin?" I called his name in a soothing and calming way, and like a hammer breaking through ice, I saw the light in his eyes as he finally turned to look at me.

As if that wasn't enough, he held my hand, pulled me close and gave me a very warm hug, one I had never had in "God-knows-how-long". His tall and manly stature enveloped me, and as he held me close to his chest, I could hear his heart beating so rhythmically, it felt like I was in a musical. I felt my heart skip a bit and what felt like butterflies filled my heart.

"Oh my! So this is how it feels like." I thought to myself.

Kelvin was extremely shocked, he didn't know when he shouted, "unbelievable!"

Still in his embrace, his scent was breathtaking, I was so sure it had to be one of the limited editions of the most expensive perfume.

"I thought I was going to lose you too." Sorin muttered under his breath, leaving me confused in his embrace. I heaved a deep sigh of relief and it was then that I realized I had been holding my breath all along, out of shock.

Suddenly the door flung open and the most unexpected person barged in. It was my worst nightmare - DAISY COLE!
