Chapter 67
"Didn't you hear what I just said?" Sorin asked Kelvin when he noticed he didn't move after he had just ordered him to call the family Doctor.
Well, one wouldn't blame Kelvin because I was also shocked at Sorin's action or should I call it Sorin's "sudden care", which made me wonder why he was always unstable with his emotions; one moment he is acting like he cares about me and the next minute, he is just like a wild animal seeking to devour me and won't hesitate to show his lack of interest in me.
"What exactly does he think of me? Why is his character always transforming and changing like a chameleon?" I thought to myself as I stared blankly at him.
"Is anyone going to answer me and do as I have said?" Sorin yelled again, his voice thundering and echoing through the room, making me shriek in fear
Immediately, Kelvin stood up and speed dialled the family doctor's number, which was picked almost immediately.
"Hello, sir." The doctor said from the other end.
"Your attention is needed at the house, he says it's an emergency." Kelvin said as he stared at Sorin who glared at him in return like he was about to tear the whole house down.
"I'll be on my way now." The doctor responded and Kelvin ended the call. He then gestured to the maids at the door to come and help me up into the room.
I just sat and stared blankly at everyone and everything that was going on without uttering a single word.
The maids helped me up and slowly took me back into our bedroom, while Sorin watched on.
As we walked past him, I kept wondering and wishing that I could just get a faint idea of what was running through his mind. I truly wanted to know what was going through his mind and why he was treating me the way he was.
For a moment there, I wished that the dream I was having before I was woken by Kelvin's knock at the door, was true and real because I lacked love and I desperately needed that love.
My parents weren't truly parents because what kind of parent would force their only child into a loveless marriage against her will and abandon her there?
I thought so hard but I couldn't understand, I couldn't see anything from their point of view. I was just a tool to them. One they could use whenever they wanted and thrash somewhere at the end of the day.
We got to the room and I asked them turn off the light immediately because it seemed as if my brain was being disturbed and my eyes were about to roll out of their sockets. They immediately turned off the main light but left the bedside light which wasn't too bright, on.
I wanted to sit on the chair but the maids protested.
"Please ma'am, you need to rest. At least, lie down on the bed."
"But I want to sit." I protested.
"Please ma, you can't, else, we'll lose our jobs." They said with true fear of losing their jobs in their voices, which made me curious.
"But why is that? Why would you lose your job when you didn't do anything wrong?" I asked weakly.
"Because that would mean we didn't follow the right order." One of them answered.
"Wow." That was the only word I could utter because I really didn't understand.
I finally agreed and went with them to the room. They were still tucking me in bed, when we heard a knock on the door.
"The Doctor is here." A voice said from outside.
Soon the door opened and the doctor walked in, followed closely by Sorin and Kelvin.
The maids immediately bowed and moved to a corner, awaiting orders.
The doctor was a young man but he didn't look familiar to me at all, which made me wonder at that moment why I wasn't taken to the hospital like the last time.
"Oh! I guess it is because I didn't pass out this time around." I thought to myself as I nodded my head.
"Why is it so dark in here? We're not mourning for God's sake." Sorin said, angrily.
"The light is affecting her, I think." Kelvin immediately said and the doctor moved closer to me.
"Hi ma'am, how do you feel?" He asked me, but I was quiet.
I was quiet because I truly didn't know what to say to him. I didn't know how I was feeling, I had numerous and countless emotions rushing through me all at once.
"Ma'am?" He called to me again but I didn't answer.
Sorin soon began pacing, impatiently and I turned to look away as I shook my head.
"Can you tell me how you are feeling? Do you feel pain anywhere?" He asked, but I was still mute.
"You have to help me so I can help you, ma'am. Please." He pleaded, but I still didn't say a word.
"Doctor, I said she was reacting to bright light. Is that not enough reason to get a diagnosis?" Kelvin chipped it in.
"Not exactly, sir. She has to talk. She looks really pale and weak, I need to know everything, so that I don't end up making mistakes here." The doctor explained.
He soon proceeded to touch my forehead and quickly removed it.
"You're burning up. Do you feel any other symptom?" He asked me again, trying his luck one more time but I just stared into the ceiling of the room like I was just seeing it that day.
He turned to Sorin and said, "maybe we should take her to the hospital since she is not saying anything here. Maybe she'll talk is she gets there and we'll be able to run tests there."
Sorin was obviously frustrated and he immediately turned to walk out of the room.
At that moment, I spoke and what I said shocked everyone, including Sorin, because he stopped right in his tracks as he heard me say,
"I just want to DIE!"
