Chapter 66

"Who is there?" I asked weakly as I opened my eyes.

I began to scan the room, looking around like I was lost, confused as to where I was at the moment

"It is Kelvin, ma'am." He responded from outside the living room and at that moment, it was as if my brain had stopped working.

"What is going on?" I asked myself, without a certain or meaningful answer.

I was just happily married to Sorin some moments ago, what was I doing in this dark room, was one of the many questions I was trying to ask myself. The fact that I let all the curtains down and turned off the lights weren't helping at all because it just helped to cloud my already hazy memory the more.

I thought for a moment and soon I realized what was going on, it was also as if my memory had just returned to me after a long break.

"Ma'am, are you alright?" Kelvin asked, trying his luck since I remained quiet after he said he was the one at the door.

This time, I recognised his voice instantly. It just dawned on me that I had been sleeping and I had been having a long sweet dream where Sorin and I were happily married and we're so in love with each other. So, all that just happened a few minutes before the knock on the door came, had been a dream.

As I was about to get up from the floor that I had been lying on all along, I weakly held on to a little stool and mistakenly hit a glass vase which was on it, which made it drop to the ground with a loud crashing sound and also made me fall back to the ground, with a loud thud as my body hit the ground.

"Ma'am? Are you in there? Are you alright?" Kelvin asked as he banged on the door immediately he heard the sound.

He was now getting worried because I had not opened the door yet. Sorin was also alerted by the sound and he had come downstairs in a haste.

"Can you please answer me, ma'am?" He requested but I still didn't answer.

"Is there a spare key, sir?" He asked Sorin who shrugged in response because he didn't know. Even if there was a spare key, his parents were the only ones who would know, since they had decided to lock all the other rooms and leave just one room open for fear that he might want to avoid sleeping in the same room with me.

"I never knew they left this living room open, I was surprised when I found out." Sorin said.

"Well, there are a lot of things you don't know in your house, sir." Kelvin said, almost inaudibly and Sorin furrowed his forehead, confused at Kelvin's words.

"What do we do now? What if she has passed out?" Kelvin asked in hushed tones, while Sorin just glared at him unbelievably.

Kelvin picked his phone out of his pocket hastily and I could hear the keypad tones, which signified that he was trying to call or text someone. Soon, I heard the dialling sound and I was sure he was calling someone.

"Come in here now and bring the tools along." He ordered and ended the call.

He then continued hitting the door and by this time, it had drawn the attention of the maids and the other guards who were now peeping from different corners of the house. They dare not come close without being called, else they would lose their jobs.

Soon, Patrick, one of the guards ran in with a box of different tools.

"Get me the screw driver and the drilling machine." He ordered, and it was handed over to him.

As soon as I heard the sound of the drilling machine as it was turned on, I knew what was going on.

"If I do not open the door this moment, they will open it from outside or bring it down." I thought to myself.

As the sound of the drill got closer to the door, though still weak, I immediately stood up, unlocked and opened the door to the astonishment of the men at the door.

"What?" They all screamed at the sight before them- I looked like I had gone crazy.

Looking at Kelvin with his eyes almost bulging out of its socket made me question if he had seen a ghost.

"Hi." That was the only thing I could utter, to my amazement. I suddenly didn't have any other word to say to any of them.

Even the maids who were peeping from different places were surprised. Some had their hands covering their mouths and this made me wonder what it was that was going on.

"You look a mess." Sorin said and Kelvin glared at him, and he walked away, hissing.

"You can go now." Kelvin ordered Patrick.

"You all can go back to your posts." With his back turned towards them, he ordered the hiding maids and guards and immediately they fled quietly because they didn't know he knew they were there all along.

I walked back into the dark room and Kelvin followed me. He shut the door, sending the prying eyes away. As I was about to sit down, he turned on the lights and I immediately felt a migraine. I closed my eyes and held on to my head.

Seeing this, he immediately rushed to my side.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"I'm fine." I said, as i staggered to get a chair.

"Careful ma'am." He said and rushed to help me to sit gently on the chair.

"Seems you're dehydrated and weak, ma'am." He said and then proceeded to touch my forehead with his palm.

"Geez!!!!" He screamed and immediately pulled back his hand, like he had touched a big pot of boiling water.

"You're burning up, ma'am." He said, almost screaming. "We need to get you to a doctor." He added.

Immediately Kelvin spoke, a familiar voice from the door, which we hadn't noticed got our attention as he yelled.

"Call the family doctor this instant. Tell him, it's an emergency!"
