Chapter 74 What! You are a liar
Seeing Kenneth act like that, Shirley couldn't be bothered to pay him any attention. 'With those guys in black now sprawled on the ground, I gotta get out of here fast. Who knows if their buddies will show up any minute?'
'Sure, I can handle three or four people, no problem, but a whole gang? No way. If more of these guys come, I'm toast.' With that thought, Shirley quickly walked out of the cage and headed for the door.
When she reached the door, her whole body stiffened, and her heart sank. Someone really came.
Shirley raised her hands and took a step back, her voice a bit tense, "Let's talk this through; no need to pull out the guns."
The leader held a gun in his right hand, pointing it at Shirley, his voice as cold as ice. "Step back and get back in the cage."
"Okay." Shirley slowly stepped back.
She turned slightly, trying to signal Kenneth to join forces with her and find an opportunity to take down the man in black.
She was a bit stunned when she looked at Kenneth. 'What is Kenneth doing? Why is he lying there motionless again? He really looks like he's dead. This is so frustrating. How did I end up with someone so useless?'
With this situation, she decided not to pin her hopes on Kenneth and used her own wits to save herself. As she stepped back to the cage, she bumped into it, making a loud noise.
"Wait, I have something to say," Shirley spoke nervously.
After all, the man in black had a gun, and no matter how good her fighting skills were, she wasn't faster than a bullet!
She didn't dare to anger the man in black in front of her. If he pulled the trigger, she would really be dead.
"Say it quickly." The lead man didn't waste words with her, speaking cautiously.
He glanced at Kenneth lying on the ground and then at his fallen men, instantly feeling that Shirley was not simple. Kenneth was still unconscious, so it must have been Shirley who took them down.
Shirley, a mere woman, single-handedly defeated his four men—an extraordinary feat that not even most men could achieve. Remarkably, she had subdued them all in the few minutes he was on the phone.
"Why did you capture Kenneth?" Shirley asked, wanting to find out why these men in black had captured Kenneth.
'Is it for money, or has Kenneth offended someone who wants him dead? If it's for money, I can take a check from Kenneth's pocket and fill in whatever amount the men in black want. Although it's a bit inappropriate, it's worth it to save me and Kenneth's lives. I believe Kenneth won't hold it against me. If it's a vendetta, it will be more troublesome. How can I escape then?' Shirley wondered.
"Someone paid for his life." The man in black's voice was still cold, pointing to the cage behind Shirley. "Get in quickly. The money is already on its way."
Upon hearing this, a sly look flashed in Shirley's bright eyes. "So, it's all about money, right? Maybe we can make a deal?"
Shirley seemed to breathe a sigh of relief at the lead man's answer and quickly tried to approach him.
"Don't move and step back. If you take one more step forward, I'll send you straight to hell." The man in black looked at Shirley with full vigilance.
He thought to himself, 'This woman's expression changes so quickly; she must have thought of some trick. I must be careful. This is my last order. After completing it, I'll start fresh. I can't fail because of this woman.'
"Okay, I'll step back," Shirley said, raising her hands and stepping back. "Let's negotiate. How much is the other party paying you? I'll double it! Just let me go." Her eyes were full of sincerity.
The man in black sneered, "Double? Do you know how much they're paying me? It's $200,000. You could never earn that much in your lifetime. Don't try to pull a fast one. Get in quickly!" The man in black scolded.
"I'll give you $10 million," Shirley saw the man in black getting angry and quickly said.
'It isn't my money anyway. Besides, I am trying to save Kenneth's life. Money isn't as important as life,' Shirley thought.
The man in black, realizing she wasn't joking, instantly furrowed his brows and looked at her intently. At this moment, he was indeed a bit tempted; everyone would be excited about $10 million.
Seeing the man's expression soften a bit, Shirley breathed a sigh of relief, speaking slowly, "How about you put the gun down first, and I'll get you a check?"
The man in black lowered his gun. "Hurry up."
Seeing the man in black lower his gun, Shirley walked into the cage, squatting down to search Kenneth's pocket for the check he usually carried. As soon as she touched Kenneth's pocket, her hand was grabbed by a hand.
Kenneth sat up, staring at Shirley intently as Shirley was about to ruin all his plans.
When he saw Shirley walking out the door earlier, he had heard footsteps approaching. For the sake of his plan, he continued to lie in the cage pretending to be unconscious.
Kenneth didn't expect Shirley to try to use his money to buy their lives at this moment. If he continued to pretend, Shirley would take his check to negotiate their release. So, when Shirley touched the corner of his pocket, he decided he couldn't pretend anymore.
Kenneth had prepared this plan for two weeks. He stayed in the cinema for nearly two hours—partly to show respect to Terry, and partly to let the men in black capture him, serving as bait to draw out Patricia.
Now, Kenneth was waiting for Patricia to come to this rundown warehouse to make a move on him. He needed to provoke the man in black to quickly lock Shirley up, ensuring she wouldn't interfere with his plan to trap Patricia and send her to prison.
Shirley looked at Kenneth grabbing her wrist, a bit stunned. "Why are you grabbing me? Give him the check!"
"What check? You haven't even paid me back the money you owe me!" Kenneth pushed her away. "Since we ran into each other today, you have to pay me back no matter what."
Shirley looked at Kenneth in shock, wondering how he could lie so calmly.
"What! You're a liar." The man in black quickly locked the cage while Shirley was stunned.
