Chapter 73 His Heart Stopped Beating
The leader of the men in black, clutching a phone, hurriedly walked out of the warehouse.
At that moment, Shirley cracked her eyes open and took a quick look around. She sat up in a flash, touching her chest and relieved to find her clothes still intact. Trying to steady her breathing, she felt her heart pounding like crazy.
She glanced over at Kenneth, who was still faking unconsciousness in the cage. 'Where am I? How did I end up locked in an iron cage? Did the Johnson Family find out something and want to kill me? But why drag Kenneth into this? What the heck is going on?' Shirley wondered, eyeing the men in black.
She grabbed the iron bars and demanded, "Why are you after me? I just flirt with some guys now and then. I don't have any enemies!"
"Blame yourself for being with the guy next to you today!" one of the men in black snapped, pointing at Kenneth on the ground.
Hearing this, Shirley looked at Kenneth, who was still pretending to be out cold, realizing these guys were after him.
"Then why did you capture me? I have nothing to do with him. I don't even know him," Shirley said anxiously, trying to distance herself from Kenneth.
She couldn't afford to get into trouble; she couldn't die now. She still had to get her revenge, and Kevin was still missing. She always believed Kevin was alive. She needed to find him and take everything from the Johnson Family to give to Kevin.
"It doesn't matter. You and Kenneth watched a movie together for two hours! Do you think I'm stupid?" one of the men in black sneered.
Shirley, momentarily speechless, closed her eyes and sighed deeply. She had no idea why things turned out this way. Laura had invited her to watch a movie, but when she arrived, only Kenneth was there. After the movie, she was inexplicably captured by these men in black.
Now, Shirley could only hope Kenneth had a plan. She raised her hand and shook Kenneth on the ground, her voice urgent, "Kenneth. Kenneth."
Kenneth didn't respond, not wanting to acknowledge Shirley.
This whole thing had been meticulously planned by Kenneth and Paul. They had deliberately allowed Kenneth to be captured by these men in black to flush out the mastermind.
Kenneth knew Patricia had secretly hired several groups to assassinate him, but he couldn't find any evidence. Without evidence, he couldn't deal with Patricia.
Just like this kidnapping by the men in black, there was no proof Patricia was behind it.
So Kenneth took the risk, aiming to gather incriminating evidence against Patricia with his recording device and see her locked up for life.
But he didn't expect Shirley to get caught up in this mess. He just hoped she wouldn't ruin his plan.
Kenneth always felt this weird, inexplicable anger whenever Shirley was around, and now, with her shaking him, he was even more pissed. If he opened his eyes, who knows how mad he'd get because of her. So, to play it safe, he kept pretending to be out cold.
Seeing that Kenneth wasn't waking up despite her shaking, Shirley knew he was faking it. A sly glint flashed in her bright eyes, and a mischievous smile crept onto her lips. She figured she'd have to rely on her own smarts to get out of this mess with the men in black.
Shirley suddenly buried her head in Kenneth's chest and secretly pinched his arm hard.
Kenneth's brows furrowed instantly, and he even forgot to breathe, thinking, 'What is she doing? Don't do anything else, or today's plan will really be ruined.'
Seeing Kenneth's furrowed brows, Shirley was even more convinced of her thoughts and chuckled lightly, thinking, 'Pretending to be unconscious? Fine! I can pretend too. In these times, without some acting skills, I would have been killed by the Johnson Family long ago.'
Suddenly, Shirley stood up, grabbed the cage tightly, and with a face full of tension and fear in her eyes, she said, "Kenneth, he... he's dead. His heart stopped beating, and he's not breathing!" Shirley's voice was full of urgency and fear.
Hearing Shirley's tone and seeing her expression, the men in black didn't think she was faking it. They exchanged glances, a bit scared; the boss told them to watch him, not to kill him, and they hadn't received the money. They hurriedly walked towards the cage.
At this moment, Kenneth was cursing Shirley in his heart, 'What is Shirley trying to do? She actually said I was dead!'
The men in black quickly opened the cage to check on Kenneth.
Seeing the cage open, Shirley swiftly kicked the two men in black who opened the door to the ground and swiftly struck a pressure point, sending the man in black into a deep slumber.
The other man in black was about to punch Shirley when she took out a silver needle from her waist and stabbed his incoming fist, causing him to quickly withdraw his hand in pain, shake it a few times, and then kick at her.
Shirley caught the man's leg, and with a loud snap, she forcefully broke his leg. The man in black fell to the ground, clutching his leg and crying in pain.
Seeing the situation turn against them, the other two men in black rushed to attack Shirley, but she easily dealt with them. Shirley sneered, "If I hadn't been stuck with that lock earlier, I would have taken you all down already. I'm renowned for being the best at drinking and brawling, and I've never lost."
Then she returned to the cage and patted Kenneth, "Stop pretending to be dead. I've taken them all down. Let's go!"
Upon hearing this, Kenneth opened his eyes and stared at Shirley with a mix of hatred and helplessness.
Shirley looked confused. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
She really didn't understand Kenneth. She had saved him, yet instead of thanking her, he stared at her like that.
