Chapter 67 What Does Terry Mean
"Michael, chill out. I'll get someone to make a gold statue for Reverend Aaron in the Johnson Family's name and send it to Black Tortoise Peak in the next few days," Anna assured the anxious Michael.
"Alright, but make sure it's pure gold," Michael said seriously.
He emphasized this to Anna because he was worried that if she sent a fake gold statue, it would piss off Olivia!
Jessica must've made the lock on this box so tough to crack because there was something valuable inside. It could be the old fortune of The Johnson Group or maybe some hidden secret.
Michael had no clue what might be inside, so he was dead set on opening the box to find out. He was willing to pay someone not just $200,000, but even 2 million if they could unlock it.
Given his current wealth, status, and influence, $200,000 was pocket change. Any problem that could be solved with money wasn't a problem at all for him.
Outside Whispering Pines Hotel, Kenneth stepped out of the luxury car and walked into the hotel, followed closely by his secretary, who was holding the contract for the oil cooperation project.
When Kenneth and his secretary walked into the conference room inside Whispering Pines Hotel, a strong smell of smoke hit them.
Terry was sitting at the head of the table, as if he'd been waiting for Kenneth for a while.
A cigar dangled between Terry’s fingers, with smoke swirling around him, making his features hard to read. He didn't even notice when Kenneth and his secretary walked in.
Kenneth and his secretary exchanged a glance, sensing something was off.
The secretary felt a bit nervous, worried there was an unexpected issue with today's contract signing.
On a day like today, with The Thompson Group signing such a sweet deal with Terry, there should've been a hint of a smile on Terry's face. But there wasn't.
Kenneth stayed calm, pushing down his doubts, and sat across from Terry.
Seeing that Terry still hadn't reacted, the secretary cleared his throat to get his attention.
'What's up with Mr. Campbell? Mr. Thompson and I are right in front of him, and he's still zoned out,' the secretary wondered.
Snapped back to reality by the secretary's cough, Terry put out his cigar, looked at Kenneth with his deep, narrow eyes, stayed silent for a few seconds, and then said, "Mr. Thompson, let's put the contract on hold for now and discuss it later."
Terry's words hit Kenneth like a thunderbolt, but Kenneth's eyes narrowed and stared straight at Terry, showing no emotion—a testament to his strong self-control.
The secretary beside Kenneth was shocked and blurted out, "What!"
Kenneth frowned, shot the secretary a cold look, and scolded, "Paul!"
Paul White was the person Kenneth trusted the most. When the Thompson Family was hunting him, it was Paul who risked his life to save Kenneth, giving him a chance to survive. That was why Kenneth always brought Paul along for important contracts or occasions. He hadn't expected Paul to lose his cool this time. Stunned by Kenneth's reprimand, Paul had no choice but to shut his mouth.
'What is going on?' Paul wondered. 'Mr. Thompson said yesterday that there was no problem with the oil project. I've been with him for years, and whatever he promised always came through. But now, Mr. Campbell is refusing him at the last minute. I just can't figure out what went wrong.'
Suddenly, Paul seemed to think of something, his eyes narrowed, and his brows furrowed as he wondered whether it could be Patricia's doing.
Patricia Brown was Kenneth's aunt-in-law.
Since Kenneth inherited the position of president of the Thompson Group, Patricia began to harbor a sense of apprehension towards him and had been hiring assassins to kill Kenneth for so many years.
As Kenneth grew increasingly powerful and the board members gradually became his confidants, Patricia's apprehension towards Kenneth intensified. She feared that the company would eventually become Kenneth's exclusive domain.
A few days ago, Patricia even sent some people to follow Kenneth. Today, on such an important occasion, those people were still driving a broken car, following behind Kenneth's car, without any movement.
Kenneth's face remained calm, and he just slightly moved his lips. "Can you tell me why?"
Terry's face showed no emotion. "Mr. Thompson, did you have a fight with Ms. Helen Johnson?"
Kenneth frowned, really confused as he wondered what his oil cooperation project with Terry had to do with Helen.
He initially thought that Terry wanted to make some last-minute changes to the contract they discussed yesterday; those were minor issues.
But now it was related to Helen, and Kenneth was unsure how to resolve it. Moreover, he hadn't seen Helen in the past few days, so it was impossible that they could have a fight.
Seeing Kenneth's puzzled expression, Terry kindly reminded him, "Mr. Thompson, why don't you first appease your fiancée, and then we can discuss the contract!"
At this moment, Terry was also a bit confused, thinking, 'It doesn't seem like Mr. Thompson had a fight with Ms. Johnson. Then why did Kathleen and Laura tell me this morning that Ms. Johnson wants me to pause the oil cooperation project with Mr. Thompson? My first reaction was that they had a fight, but it doesn't look like that's it.'
Hearing Terry's reminder, Kenneth realized that this matter was definitely related to Helen, so he didn't say much, immediately stood up, buttoned his suit, shook hands with Terry, and said in a calm voice, "Thank you for the reminder, Mr. Campbell."
Terry nodded, slightly raised his eyebrows, and pulled the corners of his lips, looking a bit helpless.
Kenneth left the conference room.
Paul, holding back his questions, followed Kenneth.
When they reached the entrance of Whispering Pines Hotel, Paul finally couldn't hold back anymore and walked beside Kenneth. "Mr. Thompson, what does Mr. Campbell mean? Didn't you already agree? Why did he suddenly change his mind and involve Ms. Helen Johnson?"
Kenneth stopped, glanced at Paul indifferently, and said, "It's obvious that it's Helen's idea. Now she is Laura's doctor. According to Terry, Helen has managed to control Laura's leg cancer."
Paul suddenly shouted, interrupting Kenneth, "I understand, so are we going to find Ms. Helen Johnson now?"
