Chapter 68: He Has to Work Overtime Again

Kenneth shot Paul a disdainful look. "Do I need a woman to close a deal?"

Paul had seriously underestimated Kenneth. Just because he didn't land the contract today didn't mean he wouldn't nail it later.

Without giving Paul a chance to respond, Kenneth headed straight for his luxury car.

Paul shrugged, feeling clearly dismissed by Kenneth. He thought to himself, 'Man, I really underestimated Mr. Thompson. He's a prodigy, diving into business as a teenager and closing deals effortlessly. My worries were unnecessary; he doesn't need anyone's help for a single project.'

A sudden noise jolted Paul back to reality. He looked up to see Kenneth already settled in the passenger seat, waiting for him to drive.

Paul stretched his legs, hurried over to the car, got in, buckled up, and adjusted the rearview mirror, sneaking glances at Kenneth.

Noticing Paul's constant glances, Kenneth finally asked, "Have you seen enough?"

Paul felt a bit awkward. "Mr. Thompson, I was looking at the car that's been tailing us."

He then suggested, "How about I get you a gun for self-defense? These guys have been following you every day; I feel like they're about to make a move."

Kenneth glanced at Paul calmly. "I've been waiting for them to make a move."

Paul was shocked and looked back at Kenneth.

Kenneth's face remained expressionless. "Drive! Back to the company!"

Hearing this, Paul looked even more miserable than when he was crying, realizing he was in for another round of overtime. Whenever Kenneth was in a bad mood, he'd bury himself in work at the office.

In the following days, Shirley's life was surprisingly peaceful. No one bothered her, and the Johnson family was too busy with their golden statue of Aaron to keep tabs on her.

So, she was super relaxed, free from all sorts of trivial matters, and really happy. She'd tend to her flowers and plants, listen to music, play games, watch TV, and when the time came, she'd head to Whispering Pines Hotel to meet Laura.

Shirley was scrolling through her phone and glanced at the time. It was 8:30 PM, almost time for her meeting with Laura.

She got up, tidied up, and changed into comfortable clothes. The clothes she usually wore were to deal with the Johnson family, tightly cinching her waist. Now that the Johnson family was too busy to bother her, she wore casual clothes.

Shirley threw on a tracksuit, looking lively and cute, a complete 180 from her usual self. But just in case someone recognized her, Shirley thought it was better to disguise herself a bit.

She casually grabbed a pair of black-rimmed glasses and a black mask, putting them on. Then, she picked up a black baseball cap, adjusting the brim slightly downward to hide her petite face.

As long as no one took off her cap and scrutinized her face, they wouldn't recognize her as the infamous Shirley. After getting ready, she walked to the door, picked up her bag, and grabbed her car keys before heading downstairs.

Once downstairs, Shirley drove her luxury car, with soothing music playing inside, all the way to Whispering Pines Hotel. She skillfully opened the secret passage door and walked in. As soon as she entered, she heard a loud shout.

"Who are you?" Laura and Kathleen screamed simultaneously, looking at Shirley standing at the secret passage door, full of suspicion.

Hearing their voices, Shirley was initially stunned, then walked up to Laura. "Don't freak out, it's me!"

Laura and Kathleen exchanged glances, full of surprise! They only confirmed it was Shirley after hearing her voice; they had thought it was a thief from her outfit.

Laura, still a bit doubtful, looked up at Shirley. "Are you Ms. Johnson?"

Shirley quickly took off her sunglasses and mask, putting them in her bag, revealing her face.

Laura looked at Shirley in shock. Even without makeup, Shirley's natural beauty was mesmerizing. Her smooth, delicate wheat-colored skin was flawless.

Her features were like they were sculpted by the gods. Her arched eyebrows added grace, her bright eyes sparkled, and her long lashes fluttered like butterfly wings. Her petite nose was perfectly shaped, and her lips, naturally rosy, looked like vibrant petals. When she spoke, her lips revealed perfectly aligned, pearl-like teeth.

"Quit gazing at me. I'm going to start it!" Shirley said with a light laugh, ruffling Laura's hair, trying to bring her back to reality.

Laura smiled and nodded, her eyes full of joy, "Okay!"

Shirley rolled up Laura's pants, took out her silver needle bag from her waist, sterilized the needles, and began inserting them one by one on Laura's leg.

Her expression was extremely serious at this moment; although after so many days of treatment, Shirley had become very experienced, she couldn't bear to see Laura endure the pain of the needles.

Every time Shirley saw Laura sweating from the pain of the needles, her hands couldn't help but slow down. However, she knew she needed to speed up to reduce Laura's pain. As she inserted the needles one by one on Laura's leg, a bead of cold sweat appeared on her forehead, afraid Laura would scream from the pain again.

After finishing, Shirley carefully removed the needles from Laura's leg and placed them back into her needle bag. Wrapping it up and securing it at her waist, she was surprised that Laura hadn't screamed in pain as usual. Finally, Shirley looked up at Laura.

At this moment, Laura's forehead was covered in a bit of cold sweat, but her eyes were full of joy. "Ms. Johnson, how did I do today?"
