Chapter 56 Unsettled Truths
"I'm glad to see you two getting along," he commented.
They were all shocked by his response. "The boss must love Miss Amanda very much." One of the staff whispered to another one.
Amanda turned to Rowan. "Anna and the rest of the staff have always been great. They do their best to make sure this place feels like a home away from home."
"They can do a better job by helping you settle in right now instead of standing right there enjoying the pleasantries," Rowan said. His smile suddenly disappeared.
The staff quickly dispersed, including Anna. Amanda gave Rowan a mean look. "What?" Rowan asked as if he knew not what had happened.
"What was that for?" Amanda exclaimed.
"You shouldn't give them too much closure. They will take it for granted." Rowan said. Amanda was still trying to process his statement when Anna came back.
"I would like to escort you to your room, Miss Amanda," Anna said. Amanda sighed in frustration. "Sure." She replied, following Anna. She didn't say anything to Rowan before walking away.
Anna escorted Amanda to her room and made sure she was comfortable. The room was beautifully decorated and well-furnished, reflecting Amanda's taste.
"I love this," Amanda exclaimed after looking around the room. "How the hell did you know my taste? This is exactly what I wanted." She added, excited.
"Mr. Xi gave us the description of the room designs and arrangement. We just followed his layout." Anna responded.
"He did?" Amanda seemed shocked. She did not expect Rowan to know that much about her to get this done. It had all the amenities she could need, and the view from the large window was stunning.
"Yes ma'am," Anna said. "Make yourself at home," she added with a warm smile.
Amanda smiled back. "Thank you for everything, Anna. I appreciate how well you take care of me.
Anna looked around as if someone could be watching. Amanda quickly grabbed her hands. "It's okay. You can be as free as you want to be when you are with me, alright? Keep the professionalism to your boss."
"Thank you," Anna said, smiling.
"You don't need to thank me. I'm just happy you're here with me, and I want you to feel comfortable." Amanda responded. "And stop thanking me."
Anna scoffed. "I can't. Mr. Xi's former mistress made life a living hell for all of us. She was not in any way nice like you"
"Rowan had a mistress?" Amanda asked, not shocked but surprised.
Anna realized that she might have said what she ought not to. She became nervous. "You don't know? Do you?" She asked Amanda.
Amanda shook her head to show her disapproval. "Then I didn't tell you," Anna said, trying to get herself out of the trouble she thought she might be in.
"Of course you didn't. There is nothing to worry about, am good at keeping secrets."
Anna nodded. "Is there anything else you need?" She asked, changing the subject.
Amanda shook her head. "No, I'm fine. I'm just going to freshen up a bit and get settled."
Anna nodded. "Alright, I'll let you have some privacy. If you need anything, please do not hesitate to call me or one of the staff."
"Thank you, Anna," Amanda said, appreciating her thoughtfulness. She watched her leave the room, and as she closed the door, she jumped on the bed.
"This feels so good." She said then her phone rang. "That does not feel too good." She added, struggling to get out of bed to get her phone in the bag she dropped on the couch in the room.
"Hello," Amanda said when she picked up the call. It was a call from an unknown number.
"Amanda!" Wilson called out over the phone. It didn't take Amanda a second before she discovered it was Wilson. "Hey," She responded hesitantly.
"Don't you dare hey me" Wilson snapped. Amanda's heart began to beat very fast. She knew him to be aggressive and thoughtless when he is angry.
Wilson's tone was stern and demanding. "What the hell are you doing, Amanda? You're dating my brother?"
Amanda sighed, bracing herself for this inevitable confrontation. "Wilson, I see no reason why you should be upset. I don't think I owe you who to date and not to date.
Wilson chuckled sarcastically. " Oh wow, you definitely should get a medal for dumping a man and going after his brother since you are morally obligated to date two brothers."
His remark provoked Amanda. "And since you are morally upright you should start by explaining how you are suddenly related to Rowan. Come on, you weren't a Xi when I met you. I am certain that Xi had no gene of poverty in them." Amanda yelled.
There was a tensed silence on the other end before Wilson spoke again. "Fine, Amanda. It's complicated"
"You sure know I don't do complicated," Amanda exclaimed.
"Amanda, this isn't something I can explain over the phone. I understand you're upset, I mean we are both upset but can we talk about this in person?" Wills asked.
Amanda became quiet. She was considering her choices. I will give you the chance to explain yourself. Amanda agreed to the meeting.
"Great. We can meet at your favorite coffee shop in Hollywood. I heard disputes settled over coffee don't repeat themselves." Wilson said, excited.
Amanda sensed the excitement and she was curious. "Don't get ahead of yourself. That is not happening."
"Why? Because you are with my brother now? Do I even matter to you?" Wilson asked, trying to manipulate her.
"Don't play that card, Wilson. Not with me, ever. " Amanda snapped. "Now listen, if you really want to talk to me, then you find a way of doing that. Delete the options of me coming out to have a drink with you."
"You mean I can…" Wilson was going to clarify that statement but Amanda interrupted him. She heard a knock on the door. "I've got to go." She said before dropping the call.
