“Why are you closing the box when you haven’t finished looking whether everything is there?” Octavius asked when he saw her closing the box.
Rhiannon didn’t reply to him as she was busy closing the box. She had already checked whether all of the jewels were there so she didn’t see the need to remove every of them one by one just for the men in the room to see them.
Also, she knew that Octavius seemed to know her mother’s identity and she didn’t want him to give him more reasons to believe that he was right as that would be risky.
She felt that although they were married, she had to be cautious in everything.
“I have checked it and everything is here. Let’s leave,” she said to them as she started walking out.
Octavius stood still as he watched her departing figure that seemed to be running away from something.
He had doubts about the name that she had told him and about the Sanders from the North as he had never heard of any other rich family named Sanders in the country.
Nonetheless, he knew that she was precautious as she was afraid that he was one of the people who were after her mother.
Yes, he knew that her mother was running away from some people when she was in the capital.
Although he was young, he had heard it from her father since his family and the Sanders were close. He remembered that along with a necklace, some bracelets and rings were given to the next heir in the Sanders family.
Now that their daughter had run away for her life, her parents had adopted a girl as they were lonely and had already become an adult who was already their age. It was said that one of their grandsons would be the heir of the Sanders but Octavius had been told by his father that that couldn’t happen since the Sanders were very traditional and would never let an outsider or a person whose blood doesn’t run in his or her veins.
Also, since all the necessary jewels that were supposed to be given to the heir were in their daughter’s hands, that meant that even their sons couldn’t inherit their properties and the company. They can manage till their sister gets back.
The Sanders had been searching for their daughter but at the same time, they understood that the organization searching for her was too powerful for them to handle.
Octavius sighed and followed her as he hoped that what Rhiannon had said was the truth as he didn’t want her to be caught up with the mess in the capital and that mysterious organization.
They drove in silence as Rhiannon all the way was glancing out of the window and didn’t give Octavius a single glance.
When they arrived home, Rhiannon got out of the car and went straight to the room that had her mother’s belongings and locked it.
She opened the box and carefully looked at the jewels as she cried due to missing her mother.
Even if she wanted to keep the jewels with her other jewels, she knew it was impossible since Octavius already had some doubts about her and she didn’t want him to know more than he knew.
She hid them well and then walked out of the room to have dinner. That day, she didn’t return to the room she shared with Octavius but she slept in her ‘mother’s’ room. Although Octavius was displeased, he didn’t say anything since he knew that the lady was already dissatisfied with him and he didn’t want her to be angry at him even more.
The following day, she woke up very early and went to the company as she felt the need to expand the company so soon before danger befell her.
She didn’t rest as she went to the newly opened restaurant, the restaurant given to her by Octavius. Visited their factories, shops, malls, and real estate buildings. On that day, everyone in the company felt the gloomy yet cold aura around her and did their work well without messing around or talking as they were afraid that their boss would suddenly remove their anger on them.
That went for a week and it was a very busy week but also, they felt as if they were about to reach their success.
Rhiannon had even forgotten that her stepmother and half-sister were in prison and due to how busy the company was, their father also forgot.
“That bitch!” Mrs Clark shouted as she angrily threw the plate on the table.
Ever since Rhiannon visited them, they had been living a difficult life since the warden whom they had promised to pay made things hard for them.
They owed her money and they didn’t want to give her money till they were released. They had initially thought that Rhiannon would drop the charges but she didn’t making them continue being there.
The money they had initially, they had to pay the warden causing them not to have money to give their innates so that the latter would not make things difficult for them.
When their fellow prisoners found out that they didn’t have money with them anymore, they didn’t dare to befriend or curry favor with them. They didn’t help them do their work. Instead, they overworked the mother-daughter duo.
Kaylee regretted telling Rhiannon where she had hidden the jewels as she didn’t have anything to threaten or exchange with Rhiannon for them to be released.
“You are a foolish girl! Why did you tell her where the jewels were? You would have told her to first drop the charge before you told her,” Mrs Clark said to her daughter as she felt like beating her up.
“Do you think that Rhiannon is the Rhiannon from the past? If I told her that, she would have doubted me. Also, I exchanged something else for those jewels,” Kaylee said stunning her mother as the latter didn’t know such a thing had occurred.
“What?” she asked curiously.
“My life! She wanted to take my life for something I had done,” Kaylee said as she shivered.
Mrs Clark stared at her daughter full of questions but when she remembered the fire and how sure Kaylee and Aoron had been that Rhiannon had died in the fire, she remained silent and didn’t utter a word but inwardly, she was cursing at her for making a move without informing her.
“I don’t care what you exchanged that for but you have to know how we are going to get out of here! I can’t live in this disgusting place anymore!”
