“You keep shouting here that don’t care about you. I don’t care whether you get married to that man or not while I do fucking care, okay? But have you stayed quiet and thought why your father is doing all this?” he asked her but by that time, Yadira had already been frozen by his words as she had never thought he was just trying to put a brave façade in front of her all those years, she felt guilt for not noticing anything but Gustavo didn’t care about it as he had even hoped that she would always be in the dark and enjoy her own life but who knew that it was going to be ruined? All his efforts had been in vain.
“He already knows of our plans and he is doing this to threaten us but you, you can’t even put your shit together and think why he is doing all that. Now, I am not in the mood to argue with you as am afraid that if we continue, I might beat you up and then regret it later on. Tell me where there is what am asking for!” he asked coldly as he didn’t see any reason to entertain her anymore and pretend that he wasn’t angry while he was.
“I am sorry,” she said in a low tone and softly while she stood up and walked towards him.
However, unlike before when she would rush to his arms and hug him, she was hesitant while her eyes had complicated emotions. Gustavo had seen her standing and averted his gaze but when he saw that her shadow had halted, he raised his eyebrows as he wondered what was wrong and looked at her just in time to see the emotions running in her eyes, looking at them he felt like he had been pierced and hated himself for hurting her.
He then understood why she wasn’t feeling able to get close to him. He stood up and walked to her then took her into his arms and hugged her.
“Stop thinking too much. If there is no way out of this then I will die with you. There is no way you will be leaving me here alone. Mom told us that we should be always here for each other thus if you aren’t, then what’s my purpose in this life?” he asked her in a whisper shocking her.
That’s right. There had been many times that he wanted to end his life even when their mother was still present. He always wondered why people could leave his cell while he couldn’t. Envious of his little sister but never mentioned anything but always put a smile on his face as he asked her how life out there was. He had even once thought that if he killed himself, he is ghost would be free to roam around the world and see how it was out there but every time he was about to commit suicide, it was like his mother would feel about it and show up in time and asked him if he died, then whom would she and his little sister be left with.
After their mother left them, he didn’t want to see Yadira. He was jealous of her as she had her father with her while her mother was no longer there for him. That time, he felt a great urge to kill himself but unlike previously when his mother was there to prevent him, Yadira’s news came in preventing him from continuing. When he heard that she had gone on a hunger strike just for him to be allowed to get out of his cell, he felt a wave of warmth in his heart reminding him that although their mother was no longer there for him, he had his sister.
He was so afraid of what his sister would do if committed suicide. Wondered whether she would be treated well when he remembered how she was also beaten with them when they tried to escape. Since then, he vowed to always protect her, and improve his skills so that one day, the two of them can leave that place and go and look for their mother.
When the news of Celestine came in, it hit the siblings and they thought of dying so that they could reunite with their mother as they wouldn’t face obstacles on their other side, but then again, news that they had a little sister who the leader was after, they were troubled, shook and vowed that they would make sure that the man doesn’t get his hands on their little sister and ruin her just as he had ruined them.
But now, all that was on his mind was that he was going to lose Yadira and he didn’t want that. He felt that he couldn’t do anything without his sister being with him as they had been dependent on each other since they were young.
Yadira was stunned and didn’t know what to say. Her mind was blank. She thought that she was not worthy of being his sister as she was selfish and everything but now, she understood that everyone was selfish on their own kind of nature. She felt warm that he was still thinking of how to not part ways with her and it felt bitter since she wondered whether that was what their mother wanted from them. They were portraying themselves as being weak instead of fighting to the end.
She closed her eyes as she remembered all the lessons their mother had given them. All her reasons and words and couldn’t help but feel guilty. Death? She started feeling that she wasn’t worthy of dying together with her brother as she was afraid that when they met their mother, she would lecture her about being stupid, greedy, and selfish. She didn’t want to face the disappointed look on her mother as soon as they met when they had been separated for more than twenty years.
“No, you can’t die with me. If am meant to die then so be it but you can’t die with me,” she said as she shook her head and got out of her brother’s embrace.
“What do you mean?” he asked her as he was confused.
“I might not die if I lived in that organization without trying to escape. Even if I die, you can’t die,” she said making him frown.
‘Why?” he asked.
“Cause there is still Rhiannon and elder Brother Ernest. If you die, who would protect them? Are you sure that father wouldn’t find her and enslave them as they did to us? I can’t be selfish, They need you more than I do!”
