Chapter 259 There Is a Problem With the Car
Sophia's whole body went limp. With the last bit of strength she had, she clenched her fist and swung at David's chest.
David caught her fist and held it against his chest, refusing to let go.
Sophia didn't have the energy to pull away, so she let David hold her soft hand and gently caress it.
She tried to kick him, but David quickly spread her legs apart, positioning himself between them. He grabbed her foot and brought it to his chest. His hand slid up her pant leg, from her firm calf to her smooth thigh.
Just as his hand was about to go further, Sophia's phone started vibrating wildly.
The sudden interruption jolted Sophia awake, her foggy mind clearing up.
'Something's wrong!'
Sophia used all her strength to slap David hard across the face. He was stunned.
Taking advantage of the moment, Sophia quickly sent a text message and then commanded David, [Open the window, quick! We need fresh air!]
"Zack, open the window," David instructed the car's AI system. This was one of the new car's highlights, combining driving with AI for a better user experience. Zack, always on standby, obediently opened the window.
Fresh, cold air rushed into the warm car, helping to clear their heads a bit.
"We..."
David had a suspicion about what was happening.
Sophia sighed inwardly. Why did something always go wrong when she was in David's car? Last time it was a bomb, and now they were drugged.
David really was "lucky."
Sophia pushed David aside. Realizing he was under the influence of the drug, he obediently moved away, not wanting to delay her. Sophia straightened her clothes and then said to the car, "Zack, open the door."
"I can't," Zack replied, refusing the command.
Sophia gave up on voice control and tried to open the door manually, but it was locked tight.
"David, open the door!" she ordered.
David's expression changed slightly, realizing the seriousness of the situation. He quickly took out the car key and tried to unlock the door, but no matter what he did, the door wouldn't budge.
Sophia was so angry she almost laughed. They'd been set up again!
David pulled at the door with all his might, but it remained firmly locked.
"Let me handle this," Sophia said, pulling a small explosive device from her bag. She carefully aimed it at the front windshield and pressed it hard.
With a sharp crack, the window shattered, sending glass shards flying.
David instinctively shielded Sophia with his body, protecting her from the flying glass. Her clothes remained clean, but David's face was cut by a shard.
"Your face..." Sophia didn't know what to say. David had chosen to protect her.
"Let's talk outside!" David said, lifting Sophia's legs to help her climb out of the car. She didn't hesitate, quickly climbing out. When she turned to help David, he was already out of the car.
"Are you okay?" David asked, concern etched in his eyes.
"I'm fine," Sophia replied, taking a deep breath to steady herself. Their opponent's methods were too sneaky, using the air to drug them.
But Sophia was curious—who would use such a mild drug on David?
Under the night sky, the sea breeze brought a hint of coolness.
Sophia shivered, but then a wave of heat surged through her body again.
This drug had a strong aftereffect!
Just then, a black car approached slowly. The window rolled down, revealing Joseph's face.
"Sophia!"
"That was quick."
"As soon as I got your message, I came. I can't delay when it comes to you."
Joseph got out of the car and approached Sophia and David. Seeing the car's condition and their disheveled state, he tensed up. His gaze shifted between Sophia and David, but it was clear he was only concerned about Sophia.
"Are you okay?" Joseph asked, his voice filled with worry.
He carefully examined Sophia, his eyes scanning her face and arms for any injuries.
Sophia felt a wave of warmth and gratitude.
Joseph was always reliable.
David watched coldly from the side, filled with hostility toward Joseph's concern.
Her ex-husband was still here, and they were acting so close. If he weren't here, would they be hugging each other?
David recalled Sophia's alluring look in the car earlier.
The thought of another man seeing that side of Sophia made David furious.
"What are you doing here?" David finally snapped, his tone full of irritation.
"None of your business," Joseph replied, not even sparing David a glance. His focus remained on Sophia. "Are you feeling unwell? We should go to the hospital right away."
David's face darkened with displeasure.
"I can take her."
"You?" Joseph scoffed, glancing at the shattered windshield. "How? In this car? If you want to risk your life, fine, but don't drag my Sophia into it."
"Your Sophia?" David's voice was filled with anger. "Since when is she yours?"
"Mr. Jones, maybe you should get your head checked. Have you forgotten? Your grandfather, Robert, personally entrusted Sophia to me. He told me to take good care of her! Sophia is mine!"
Joseph's eyes flashed with defiance.
Sophia felt exasperated by the tension between them.
Neither of them was her boyfriend, so what were they fighting about?
"Shut up!" Sophia scolded them like a kindergarten teacher.
"Sophia, are you mad at me?" Joseph immediately put on a pitiful expression, bending down and leaning closer to her. He knew this act always worked on Sophia.
Sure enough, Sophia sighed softly.
"Be good, and stop fighting. We might be poisoned and need to get to the hospital."
"Poisoned?"
