Madison’s POV
Oh my God, I so needed this vacation. Nathan and Amelie were so kind to invite everyone to their private island.
Amelie visited me every single day in the hospital. Nathan was just down the hallway after his mother shot him. So much shit came out of that story. Jonathan was my half-brother and Nathan’s half-brother, too. Amelie’s brother, Zander, was Nathan’s half-brother as well. The biggest news was the fact that my father was dead. I didn’t feel sadness, though; I felt relief and a sense of freedom. My mother and I cried, but our tears were tears of happiness, not pain or sadness.
At first, they had reported that he was killed in a robbery gone wrong. He was beaten up, stabbed, and left for dead. When they found him in the morning, he had lost a lot of blood and was pretty much frozen solid. I hoped he had suffered, felt the pain he had caused me, and probably a lot of the interns at his law firm. It only came out when Nathan had come out of his coma, that Jonathan had stabbed him several times because Daddy had tried to sexually assault Amelie at the warehouse where they were holding her. Jonathan had also shot Vivian, his mother, when she had threatened Amelie.
I almost needed a flow chart to keep track of everything. But now, I was sitting on a lounge chair by the main pool on Amelie Sands Cay.
“What are you thinking, gorgeous?” Paul said, leaning over the back of my chair.
“Just how much I need this vacation,” I said, smiling.
“I think what you need is to go for a dip in the pool and do some physio on those beautiful legs of yours,” Paul grinned.
“Aw, can’t I just lie here and be one with the lounger?” I smirked.
“Nope, doctor’s orders,” Paul stated. “Makes sure she does her exercises, Paul. That’s the only way I’m permitting her to go on this trip.” Paul said, in his best Dr. Alzec voice.
“Oh God, you sound just like him,” I giggled.
Paul rounded my lounger and scooped me up in his arms.
“Well, I hate to be the party pooper, but… who am I kidding? I love being the party pooper,” Paul chuckled.
I laughed loudly as he carried me into the pool. It’s still the weirdest feeling that I can’t feel anything in my legs. So it doesn’t register that I’m in the water until it reaches my bikini bottom.
Paul and I haven’t done anything sexually, beyond a bit of light petting, but I’m glad the paralysis hasn’t affected my… well, you know. I know, because Paul has driven me to touch myself on several occasions. He’ll be all sexy and ridiculously hot, then tuck me in and kiss me good night. Totally leaving me sexually frustrated and left to my own devices. He is truly not to blame, though. Dr. Alzec said six to eight weeks until sexual contact.
I lean against the side of the pool with my arms on the edge as Paul works my legs in the normal therapy moves. He’s been doing this for the last week at Nathan and Amelie’s pool. My wounds healed remarkably fast. By week three, I could finally stop taking sponge baths and had an amazing shower.
Paul and I moved into Nathan’s building, into a two-bedroom, fully outfitted, wheelchair-accessible apartment. Nathan said it was the least he could do for all that I tried to do for Amelie.
“Are you done yet?” I teased Paul.
“Wow… just wow,” Paul joked. “Aren’t you the bossy one today?” He said as he came up behind me and hugged me.
“Paul, people are looking,” I whispered.
“So, let them look,” he purred in my ear.
He spun me around, so I was facing him.
“Do I get a kiss for my physiotherapy payment?” He smirked.
“Well,” I said, putting my finger to my chin, looking like I was thinking. “I suppose…”
I didn’t even get to finish that sentence before his lips were on mine, kissing me deeply.
“Woooo, get it, McConard,” Dante yelled.
“Shut up, Twerkley,” Kimmy scolded him.
“Ok, Legs,” Dante replied.
“Can we go back to the hut? I’m kind of tired,” I advised Paul.
“Absolutely, sweet cheeks,” Paul responded. He carried me out of the pool and sat me down on the towel on the lounger. Then he proceeded to dry off my legs while I put on my cover-up. Finally, he loaded me into the beach wheelchair. We took a nice leisurely stroll back to the overwater hut.
“Change of plans?” I asked.
“Sure, what is your wish, malady?” Paul said and bowed.
“Can we go to the beach? Lay on a blanket on the sand,” I questioned.
“That would be awesome,” Paul grinned.
We headed down to the sand, and Paul laid out a huge beach blanket. He lifted me out of the wheelchair and laid me down gently.
We lay there for at least half an hour talking and laughing.
“Oh, look, cute little crabs,” Paul said, pointing towards the edge of the blanket.
“They are so adorable,” I squealed.
“Madison, Paul,” I heard someone yell. It was Morgan walking towards us.
Just then, I felt a pinch in my toe.
“OWWWW!” I screamed and looked down at a crab attached to my toe. “Get off, you silly crab!”
“MADISON!” Paul yelled, jumping up like he had won the Super Bowl.
“What?” I asked, looking at him puzzled.
“YOU FELT THAT!” Paul grinned.
Then it dawned on me, I felt that! I felt that crab grab my toe! I started crying uncontrollably.
Paul reached down, grabbed the crab off my toe, and put it down on the sand. Then he grabbed my toe and gently ran his fingers up it.
“Did you feel that?” He asked.
I smiled and nodded yes.
Before I knew it, he was up hugging and kissing me.
“Morgan, call for the doctor!” Paul exclaimed.
“Oh my gosh!” Morgan squealed and ran towards her bungalow.
“Baby,” Paul said, holding my face in his hands. “This is amazing!”
It wasn’t my legs back, but it felt like it was a step in the right direction.
“Your hard work is paying off,” Paul said with the biggest smile.
“It’s your hard work, too,” I stated, smiling at him.
“I was going to wait for this,” Paul grinned, “but I think this is an amazing moment that needs to be taken to the next level.”
I looked at him, puzzled.
Paul pulled out a small box, holding it in front of me.
“Madison, every time I look into your eyes, I see a reflection of our future. One of pure love and happiness,” Paul said, opening the box to reveal a pristine cut diamond ring. “Madison, will you marry me?”
I couldn’t say yes. I was sobbing with happiness, but I definitely know I nodded yes, though. And as another crab latched onto my toe and I screamed, “Ouch!” Paul placed the ring that signified a future of endless possibilities.
