Chapter 7 chapter 7
Chapter 7
Jason thought that he would be the happiest man after finally getting his freedom, but why did he not feel any ounce of excitement? In fact, his heart was filled with bitterness, and the thought of Natalie finally leaving him filled his heart with unknown fear.
“Vivian, I don’t think that now is the time. I have some things that I need to take care of.”
Vivia sounded understanding over the phone, but the moment Jason hung up, her face changed.
“Natalie, even after divorcing you, Jason still thinks of you. But that won’t be for long. Just wait until he has fallen into my trap, and then you will know what the real pain is!”
Jason did not feel like going to work, so he headed to his friend’s club. He had no idea why he was feeling so low after seeing the signed divorce papers and Natalie’s nonchalant attitude towards him.
And the way Natalie treated him was as if he did not even exist. She was not the same Natalie who had loved him all her life.
When Luc saw him, he could not help but ask, “Why do you look like you have just buried your wife? Is everything okay at home?”
Jason did not know why he felt like crying, but he could not utter a single word. He drank the whisky in his glass in one gulp and frowned at the bitterness in his mouth.
He looked at his friend, his gaze somehow absent-minded, “She signed the divorce papers.”
His voice was low, so Luc did not hear him well. “Did you say something?”
Jason looked at him and stated, “Natalie agreed to the divorce. She signed the divorce papers without causing a ruckus, and she had even moved out of our matrimonial home already.”
Luc was stunned, but he soon congratulated his friend, “Congratulations, bro, you are finally single.”
Jason remained quiet. He had longed to hear those words, but when they finally rang in his ears, he felt as if he had just swallowed a fly.
Luc realized that something was not right after not hearing a word from his friend.
He looked at him and asked, “Wait, why don’t you look happy? Hasn’t your wish been fulfilled, and Natalie is no longer in your life?”
Jason looked at his friend and voiced his confusion, “Bro, that is the main point. I thought that this would be the happiest day of my life, so I have no idea why I am feeling like I have lost the only real thing in my life. I feel like this is all a dream.”
Luc was stunned, “Jason, what do you mean? This divorce was your idea, and you said that you could not wait to be free, so why aren’t you happy that Natalie, the woman you have resented for the last three years, is actually out of your life?”
“I also don’t understand. I wish I had an explanation as to why I am feeling like this. I am supposed to be happy, I am supposed to be celebrating my freedom, but I don’t feel any moment of happiness.”
Luc thought about it before he said, “That could only mean one thing?”
“What?”
“You are in love with Natalie, but you don’t even realize it. You are only confused because you never thought that she would one day walk out of your life.”
“Dude, are you drunk already?” Jason asked. There was no way he was in love with Natalie. It was Natalie who loved him and clung to him all these years.
“I am just speaking the truth.”
“No, dude, I am not in love with her. She is the one who is in love with me. I mean, for years, she had loved me, I am just confused why she signed the divorce papers without making a ruckus. It was like all her love was nothing but fake.”
“But isn’t that what you wanted, for her to finally get out of your life. If she made a ruckus and refused to sign the papers, would you have given her another chance?”
“No… but…”
“You already have a girlfriend; I think that you should be happy now your new life.”
“Vivian is not my girlfriend. We were only good friends back in college, and I am only helping her because she has no one.”
…
“Why is my head so heavy? What happened to me?” Jason groaned as he opened his eyes.
His eyes were also heavy, and he instinctively shut them because of the bright light.
He rolled to his side and stretched out his hand to reach for his phone, but his hand hung in the air.
“What? What happened? Where is my phone? I have always placed it on the bedside lamp stand.”
As he was still confused, he heard soft moans coming from the other side of the bed.
Jason turned around, and when he saw Vivian, his expression changed, and he immediately sobered up.
He lifted his blanket and realized that he was completely naked. He turned his head, and when he saw the mess on the floor, his heart skipped a beat.
He held his head and cursed, “What the fvck!”
Why was he in bed with Vivian, and how could he not remember anything?
He held the woman who was crying and asked, his voice dangerously low, “Viv, what happened?”
Vivian sobbed as she threw herself at Jason, “Jace, I am so sorry, I did not mean for any of it to happen. I… I tried to stop you, but you could not listen.”
Jason was stunned. His mind was a mess, and the only thing he could remember was going to Luc’s bar. They had a conversation for a while, and after that, his mind was completely blank.
Did he force himself on Vivian in his moment of intoxication?
His face turned extremely pale as he asked, “Did I hurt you?”
Vivia wanted to shake her head, but after a while, she spoke in a broken voice, “It is nothing, I… I will just go and freshen up.”
Seeing all the bruises on her body, Jason felt like slapping himself.
What had he gotten himself into?
