Chapter 6
Jason did not know why his father sounded angry over the phone, but he dropped everything and rushed home.
“Where is dad?” Jason asked the servant who was walking around. His voice was anxious, and he thought that maybe his father was unwell.
The servant looked at him and answered, “Master is in the garden with the Hart family. They came early today to visit the old master.”
“The Hart family?” Jason mumbled. Did Natalie come to rant to his dad again about the divorce?
No wonder his dad had sounded so angry over the phone. Natalie must have said so many bad things about him, and now his dad misunderstood him again.
Well, it was better that they were already divorced, or else, he would have made her life a living hell.
When he arrived at the garden, his father and Natalie’s parents were having tea as they conversed. As for Natalie, she was standing in the flower garden, staring at the lilies that had just bloomed.
Jason took one look at her and realized that she had lost so much weight. She always had a thin frame, and now she was even thinner. Looking at her, it was as if she could be blown away by the autumn wind.
Jason’s gaze darkened. He was about to go to her, but his father called him out, “You brat, you are back?”
“Dad, uncle, auntie, how are you guys?”
Clara and Tyron nodded politely while his father did not even bother to greet him. Jason could tell that the mood was not right, and he could just imagine the lies that Natalie had fed his father.
Clara looked at Leo and spoke, “Leo, I think that we should get going. It is getting late, and Natalie needs to get some rest. She has not been feeling well lately.”
“It is okay, Clara. I apologize again for the pain that Natalie has been through because of my useless son. I wish I had not listened to his mother back then and had more children.”
“It is okay, Leo. The kids of these days have a mind of their own, so you just have to let them do what they deem fit. As for us parents, we just have to point them in the right direction.”
“You are right, Clara. I just hope that one day, Natalie will find someone who will love and cherish her. She is such a sweet child. I wish her all the best.”
“Natalie, come on, let us go.”
When Natalie saw Jason, there was not a ripple of emotion in her eyes. She was even stunned by her calmness.
She even smiled at him as she greeted, “Hi, Jason.”
She went over and hugged Leo, “Uncle Leo, thank you so much. I will really miss you and your funny stories.”
“What are you talking about? This is still your home, and you can come anytime you feel like. You will be my one and only daughter.”
Natalie did not know what to say. She was leaving, and she had no idea when she would ever return. She did not have the guts to break the old man’s heart.
Seeing that she was quiet, Leo felt like something was not right, “Nat, why aren’t you saying anything? You will be coming to see me more often, right?”
Natalie had no choice but to nod, “Of course, uncle. I will always visit every time I am free.”
“Good girl.”
“Mom, Dad, let us go.”
After they left, Jason finally had the chance to speak to his father.
“Father, you sounded so anxious over the phone. What is it?”
Leo’s expression turned cold as he looked at his son, “When were you planning on telling me that you two were already divorced? Have you no shame in letting go of such a sweet soul like Natalie?”
Jason frowned. Natalie must have said something to his dad for him to be this angry. Oh, and how he almost felt pity for her after seeing her.
“Dad, what lies did Natalie tell you this time around? I know that no one beats her when it comes to playing the victim.”
Leo angrily slammed his walking stick on the table after hearing his son, “Show some respect, you bastard. I have spoiled you too much until you have no manners.”
“Dad, I am your son for crying out loud.”
“Natalie said she was the one who came up with the divorce idea, but I know that you are the one who pushed her to this with your vile behavior.”
“What?” Jason was stunned after hearing that.
He looked at his father in disbelief, “Did Natalie really say that she was the one who initiated the divorce?”
“Yes. Or was she supposed to say something else?”
“No… I…”
Jason could not believe that Natalie had actually taken the blame and lied to his father that she was the one who wanted the divorce.
When he left his father’s house, his mind was in a mess. He looked at the divorce papers that were on his passenger seat, and seeing that Natalie had really signed them, he still could not believe it.
Natalie loved him so much, and he thought that she would still try to force her way into his life again by pulling another stunt. Who would have thought that she would actually agree to divorce him?
His phone rang, bringing him back to reality. Looking at the caller ID, Jason did not feel like answering the call, but he still went ahead and pressed the answer button.
Vivian’s chirpy voice came through the speaker, “Jace, when are you coming back to the company? Gosh, you have such a huge company that I did not even finish touring half of it, and I am already so tired.”
“I… my father called, so I had to rush home.”
Her voice changed to one of worry, “Is everything okay at home?”
“Yeah. Natalie had come with her parents to pay him a visit. He called me back to say hi to them.”
Vivian became displeased upon hearing that. “Is she still clinging to you?”
“No, she actually signed the divorce papers.”
“What? That is good news, Jason. That calls for a celebration. I will book us a reservation, and we can head over once we are done with work.”
