Chapter 68 chapter 68
Chapter 68
Vivian hurried to the door, and when she opened it and saw the police officers, her face turned as white as a sheet of paper.
She stumbled back and almost wanted to vanish into thin air.
“What… what are you guys doing here? Did you come to the wrong house?”
Karl looked at Vivian and commented, “You must, Vivian.”
“Yes,” Vivian nodded, “And who are you? Why are there so many police officers?”
Karl entered the house as he spoke, “We are here on official duty, make way.”
“What?”
When Tyron and Sophia saw Karl, their expressions did not look good. They had only been at the police station a few hours ago. Why was Karl at their house?
Karl looked around the house vigilantly. His eyes landed on the small briefcase on the chair, and a smirk appeared on his face. He looked at Tyron and asked, “Dr. Hart, are you going somewhere. It is already so late, where are you headed to?”
“I…” Tyron did not know what to say. If this officer found out that they were trying to run away, then he would definitely get suspicious.
He grabbed the suitcase and held it tightly, “Oh, this, I haven’t had time to clean up since I got off work. This is just my research that I carried home from work.”
Karl narrowed his eyes. He signaled for his men, “Take that suitcase and check, and then you can confiscate it.”
Tyron immediately protested, “No, you cannot do that. You can’t just go through my stuff.”
“Tyron, you and your family are being put under immediate house arrest. We have reasons to believe that you are trying to get out of the country to evade the investigation regarding your ex-wife."
Tyron’s face turned pale, but he still denied, “No, there is nothing like that. Why would we run away? We are innocent.”
“Boss, we found this.” One of the officers said as he handed Karl the passports he had recovered from the small suitcase, together with the plane tickets that Tyron had printed from his study room.
“Dr. Hart, what is the meaning of this?” Karl asked as he slammed the passports on the coffee table.
“I…”
“Dad wanted to take us on a last-minute family trip,” Vivian said.
“Oh, is that so?” Karl questioned. His voice had grown a few degrees colder, and no one dared to say anything.
Tyron quickly thanked, giving Vivian a thumbs up in his head, “Yes, officer. I have been busy with work lately, and we have been planning for this trip for a long time. Being that it is almost the weekend, I wanted to take my family out so that we could have some fun.”
“Oh, wow. Are you really going on a business trip, or are you running away because of something else?”
“What nonsense are you spewing?” Sophia interjected.
“I don’t have time to waste with you all,” Karl said. He took out a document from his pocket and passed it to Tyron, “I am just here to inform you that you are restricted from leaving the country, or going anywhere, in simple terms, you are all under house arrest until the case is resolved.”
“What?”
“Take away all their passports and mark this place as a crime scene. Until the investigation is done, no one leaves.”
“What? You can’t do that.” Vivian protested.
Tyron almost had a heart attack, “You cannot do this to us. What crime did we commit for you to put us under arrest?”
“We will find out once we are done with our investigation,” Karl said.
“No, you cannot do this. I am a doctor, and I have to go to the hospital every day. I cannot be confined in this room. This is wrong.”
“You can go to the hospital, but you will have to be accompanied by the police. I cannot let you out of my sight even for a second.”
“What? How would I even explain to my co-workers at the hospital when they ask why I am being watched by the police?”
“Oh, that, just tell them that they are investigating your dead wife’s case, and you are a prime suspect.”
“You… what?”
…
A few hours ago…
After Sophia and Tyron left the police station, Karl called Natalie and explained to her everything.
“Mrs. Cole, everything is just as we had suspected.”
“What did you find out?”
“Comparing their statements from back then and today, there are some things that overlap. Looks like they were careless because they knew that this case would never be reopened.”
“Good job, Karl. I just want my mom to find justice so that her soul may finally rest in peace.”
“We will solve this case, Mrs. Cole. The only problem is that your father is a respected doctor, and he might try to get out of the country. If that happens, we might not be able to do anything.”
“If he tries to run away, then that would only mean that he has something to hide. Karl, you cannot let any of them run away before this case is cracked. And if my father pulls that stunt, just tell me, and I will have his medical license revoked. He wouldn’t run away if he were not feeling any guilt.”
“Yes, ma’am. I will head to the house with my team and see what they are up to. We won't let them get away so easily.”
“Thank you, Karl. I want this case solved as soon as possible.”
“And it will be solved.”
Present time…
Once he was outside the house, Karl called Natalie.
“Ma’am, you were right. Tyron tried to run away with his family. If we were even a minute late, we would not have found anyone.”
Although Natalie had expected as much, she did not know why her heart hurt so much. She did not know what had turned her father into such a cruel man. What had changed in the shortest time that she had been away? She could not understand it.
“Thank you, Karl.”
After hanging up, Natalie called Sean and explained everything to him.
“I am here to support you in every decision you make, my love. Just tell me what you want to do, and I will get it done.”
Natalie closed her eyes. The decision she was about to make would cost her father the career he had worked so hard to build over the years, but if it meant finding out the reason behind her mother’s death, she would do it.
Natalie snapped the pen in her hands in two before she said, “I want my father’s medical license revoked until I know the exact cause of my mother’s death. If he had a hand in it, I would ruin him.”
“Consider it done, honey.”
