At a certain famous restaurant downtown, Natalie, Jojo, and Sean had already arrived, and they were waiting for Leo.
After his meeting with the Boardroom Beast was unsuccessful, Leo had no choice but to return to the company to try and find another way to stabilize the situation.
He was afraid that if this went on, the Thompson group would not be able to withstand the pressure. The Boardroom Beast had also made it clear that he was intentionally messing with them, and with the enormous resources that he has, they couldn’t afford to go head-on with him.
Leo only left the office after receiving a call from Natalie. He had almost forgotten about their dinner.
“Just send me the location. I will come over right away.”
“Okay, uncle. We are already waiting for you.”
Seeing him leave the office, Jason stopped him and asked, “Dad, are you leaving? What did the Boardroom Beast say? You did not say anything since you came back.”
Leo looked at his son and shook his head. He seemed to have spoiled him so much that he became arrogant.
The Boardroom Beast had said that he was messing around with the Thompson group just so his wife could vent her anger. I wondered what Jason had done to the man’s wife for him to be so angry.
“It is nothing. You don’t look good. You should go home and get some rest. I will find a way to solve this matter myself.”
“But, dad…”
Leo said nothing and quickly left the office.
At the restaurant…
While they were still waiting, Sean’s phone rang. Seeing that it was a business call, he excused himself from Natalie and Jojo before he went to take it.
He had only left the room when Leo entered. When he saw Natalie and Jojo, he could not hide the shock on his face.
The moment he had a clear look at Jojo, he knew that she was Jason’s baby. She looked so much like Jason when he was young.
Natalie looked at Leo and smiled brightly, “Uncle, you are finally here!”
Leo came back to his senses and walked over. There was a small smile on his face as he spoke, “Sorry for keeping you waiting. I had a few things to deal with at the company, and that was why I am late.”
“It is okay. We also just go here.”
Leo looked at Jojo, and he couldn’t resist asking, “And who is she?”
Natalie blinked before she responded, “Uhm, she is Jojo, my daughter.” She turned to Jojo and continued, “Jojo, say hi to your granduncle.”
Jojo smiled sweetly before she spoke in her cute voice, “Hello, granduncle, I am Jojo.”
Leo smiled. He was so emotional that tears almost fell out of his eyes.
This was definitely his granddaughter. Natalie must have found out about her pregnancy after she had divorced Jason, or else, she would not have agreed to the divorce.
“Natalie, how have you been? Is Jojo…”
Natalie knew what Leo wanted to ask about, so she interrupted him before he could complete his question, “Uncle Leo, Jojo’s father stepped out to receive a phone call. He would be back soon.”
“Oh-uhm.”
How could Leo not see the defensive look on Natalie’s face? It was like she did not want anyone to know that Jojo was Jason’s daughter.
Now that she was married, and Jason was married too, it would be messy if Jason found out that Natalie had given birth to his child.
After everything that had happened, he knew that Natalie would never be his daughter-in-law again.
“Uncle, how have you been. Sorry that I couldn’t find you sooner. A lot had happened since I returned, and I have been so overwhelmed.”
Leo waved his hand, “It is okay, and I totally understand. You have been away for a long time, and although you were literally born here, you still needed time to adjust to everything.”
“Thank you, Uncle, for understanding.”
“How is your old man doing? I haven’t heard from him in a long time.”
The mention of her father made Natalie’s expression change. Her voice cooled down as she said, “I don’t know. We don’t speak often. I guess he is busy with his new wife and daughter.”
Leo seemed to have remembered something after hearing.
How could he have forgotten that Natalie’s mother had died and her father had had another child all along? He wondered how heartbroken she must have been after finding out the truth.
“Natalie, I…”
Knowing what he was about to say, Natalie waved her hand, “Uncle, it is okay. You don’t have to say anything.”
Just then, Sean walked in. When Leo saw him, his expression changed, and his eyes widened in shock.
Sean was also shocked upon seeing Leo. Was this the person Natalie said that she wanted to introduce to him?
Wasn’t he her ex-husband’s father? Why would he be here?
Seeing that Sean had finally returned, Natalie looked at him and smiled, “Oh, you are finally back?”
“Yeah.”
Leo pointed at Sean and, in an almost trembling voice, he asked, “What are you doing here?”
Sean frowned and questioned, “I should be the one asking you that.”
Natalie looked at them with an interesting gaze, “Have you guys already met?”
“Yes,” Leo nodded.
“No.” Sean shook his head.
Although felt that something was going on between the two, he did not read much into it.
“Sean, this is my uncle Leo. He has always been kind to me, and he treats me like I'm his own daughter. He is the only family I have left in Sterling City. Sorry that I did not introduce you two earlier.”
“What?” Sean was stunned. Had he misunderstood something?
He looked at Natalie before his gaze shifted to Leo, “Isn’t he?”
“Yes, but he is nothing like that jerk. He treats me really well.”
“Well…”
“Uhm, Uncle Leo, this is my husband, Sean. He is also Jojo’s dad. We have known each other for five years.”
“Oh.” Leo did not know how to react.
So, he was actually mistaken, and Jojo was not his granddaughter.
So, when Sean said that he was helping his wife vent her anger, he actually meant Natalie?
He had been wondering who they had offended, but now, everything became clear.
Sean was messing with them just for Natalie’s sake. He was willing to topple his decades-old company because of his wife!
There was no hope for his son anymore.
