The chief of police swallowed a big chunk of saliva before he continued to report, “I was out of the station, and the officer on duty called me and said that two people dropped by, a man and a woman. They wanted to reopen the case again.”
Seeing that the man was not saying anything, the chief of police thought that he had said something wrong, so he quickly explained, “Don’t worry, sir. I had put a restriction on that file, and only I have the authorization to open it. All the hard copies were destroyed, so you have nothing to worry about.”
The person on the other end of the line finally nodded, “Good.”
The chief of police finally heaved a sigh of relief.
The other person thought about it before he said, “If they ever come back, tell them your station does not have enough resources to reopen the case. Just say that the case was thoroughly investigated back then, and there was nothing left to look into.”
“Yes, sir. I am sure they will come back in two weeks, and when they do, I will be ready for them.”

Jason held the pen in his hand with so much force that it ended up snapping in two.
He looked on with an unreadable gaze as he spoke, “Natalie, so you really are back, and the first thing you did was look into your mother’s case? You did not even come looking for me, but you went straight to the police station. Is that the reason you came back?”
“And who was the man with you? Have you already moved on and married someone else? What have you been doing all these years? Why did you never come back after burying Auntie?”
Jason had so many questions in his head, but he had no single answer.
The questions swirled in his mind, making his head spin.
He did not need to ask the chief of police about the person who had been dropped off at the police station, because he knew that it was definitely Natalie. Clara only had one daughter, and that would be the only person who would want to look into her case.
After settling his mind, Jason called Tyron, “Dad, why didn’t you tell me that Natalie was back?”
“Oh, Jason, I also just found out in the morning. I have been operating since morning, and I just finished it not long ago.”
“She dropped by the house in the morning, but she left before we could even talk, so I had no time to explain anything to her. But from the look on her face, she was hurt, and shocked when she learned the truth about Vivian and her mother.”
“Hmm, Vivian called me and explained everything.”
Tyron thought about it before he asked, “Jason, do you think that I did the right thing? I mean, accepting Vivian and her mother into my life?”
“Of course, Dad. Vivian is your daughter. And although you did not know of her existence before, you are her father, and it is only right that you take care of her. Natalie has always been sensible, and I am sure that she will understand if you explain it to her.”
“But Clara never understood, and she never wanted to listen to me. What if Natalie also ends up misunderstanding? What am I supposed to do? I have already lost my wife, and I can’t bear to lose my daughter too.”
“Dad, I did not call you to talk about this. There is something important you need to know.”
“What happened?”
“Natalie dropped by the police station earlier. She wanted to reopen Auntie’s case.”
“What?” Tyron felt his heart skip a beat after hearing that.
He felt his BP drop, and his knees went weak.
Even his voice weakened as he spoke over the phone, “Jason, you cannot let that happen. Natalie cannot reopen this case, and she cannot find out what happened to her mother.”
“Don’t worry, Dad. The chief of police has already called me, and he has assured me that Natalie will never find out anything. They will keep making up excuses until she gives up.”
After the call, Tyron slumped in his chair, his face pale and his hands trembling. After Clara’s burial, Natalie had called him and told him to re-investigate her mother’s accident. She said that something was off, and everything she had been told did not add up.
He had been adamant about not reopening the case, and they ended up on bad terms. Since then, they had never spoken again. For than three years, Tyron and Natalie had not been in contact. Who would have thought that she would suddenly show up in Sterling City? Looks like she never gave up on her mother’s case.

By the time they left the police station, it was almost time for Jojo to leave school.
“Babe, I think we should pick Jojo up from school.”
Sean looked at her and said, “I was planning on dropping you off before I go and pick her up. You don’t look good. I wanted you to go home and get some rest.”
Natalie shook her head, “I can’t be alone now. I will only end up overthinking. I'd better keep you guys’ company.”
Sean held her hand and squeezed it, “Okay, honey. Don’t worry, everything will be okay.”
When Natalie and Sean reached the school, it was just about time for the kids to be released. They waited for a bit in the parking lot before the kids started to leave the classes.
Soon, they saw Jojo’s small figure walk through the parking lot. She was talking to her fellow kid, and they seemed to be having fun. Jojo giggled from time to time, and she bounced happily.
Natalie took a single glance at her and felt her bad mood lift. With her daughter by her side, there was nothing she couldn’t endure.
Sean looked at Jojo and smiled, “Just look at how cute my daughter is. I am sure she has already charmed everyone at school.”
Natalie did not know whether to laugh or smile. She just looked at Sean and shook her head.
They both came out of the car, and when Jojo saw them, she ran towards them in excitement.
“Mommy, Daddy, you both came to pick me up from school? What is the special occasion?”
Sean hugged her and lifted her up in his arms, “What, can’t we just surprise our sweet princess?”
“Ah, Jojo is the happiest today.”
They were about to get in the car, but someone stopped them.
“You two?” Vivian’s surprised voice sounded.
Natalie frowned when she saw her, while Sean looked at her like he was seeing her for the first time.
Vivian’s expression twisted. So, she had been right all along. Natalie and Sean were together, and they even had a child.
Just what kind of crazy coincidence was that?
