Chapter 34 chapter 34
Chapter 34
On the way home, Natalie turned to Sean and asked, “Will you ever be like them, too?”
Hearing that, Sean knew exactly what Natalie meant. She was betrayed by the man she loved since she was just a little girl, shattering her heart into pieces. And now, she has just learned that the man she had always looked up to had also betrayed her, so how could she not be worried?
Sean drove with one hand and used the other to hold Natalie’s arm. He squeezed it tightly before he spoke in a raspy voice, “Natalie, honey, I will never be like them.”
“Well, it’s hard to predict the future, you know that.”
“I grew up without a father. I actually never even knew what he looked like. My mother went through so much to give me the best life she could. She was the reason why I was so against the idea of ever getting married.”
“I never knew my dad, but I always feared that I might end up just like him. I never wanted someone’s daughter to go through what my mom went through because of me. So, after my first girlfriend left me for some richer guy, I vowed never to get into another relationship again.”
Natalie was stunned after hearing that. She knew that Sean had been raised by his mom alone, and since he did not speak much about his father, she always thought that maybe he had passed away early, which was why he rarely talked about him.
She never imagined that Sean had endured so much. Growing up not knowing where you came from must have been terrible for him.
Natalie looked at Sean, and for the first time since she knew him, she actually noticed just how vulnerable this man was. He had always meticulously taken care of her, but it seemed like she had not done a good job in trying to understand him.
She cleared her throat and rested her palm on Sean’s hand that was holding hers, “Babe, I am sorry, I… I did not…”
Sean parked the car on the side of the road and turned his attention to Natalie. He held her face in his hands and looked at her straight in the eyes, “Honey, you don’t have to apologize. I did not tell you this so that you could pity me. I just wanted to assure you that I will never be anything like your father or that jerk of your ex-husband.”
“Before my mom died, she told me that if I couldn’t treat a girl right, then I shouldn’t waste their time. See, the moment I first saw you, I just wanted to get close to you, but I wasn’t sure how.”
“I thought that maybe it was just infatuation, and it would go away on its own. But the more I knew you, and the more I spent time with you, the deeper my feelings for you grew. I just didn’t have the courage to confess to you. But now that I did, I am going to treat you like a queen. I will never give you a reason to regret ever choosing me as your life partner.”
“Honey, I…”
“Don’t say anything, I will take you home. I have looked into your dad, and I have all the information. Once you’ve rested, I will let you look through it.”
…
Vivian sat on the leather sofa in the sitting room and held her head in her hands. Her face was still slightly pale, and her mind was in a mess.
Natalie had already found out about everything, and now, they had no idea what she was going to do next.
Tyron had already gone to work because he had a scheduled surgery in the morning that could not be delayed.
Vivian looked at her mother and cursed, “Fuck it! How did that bitch even come back?”
Sophia looked at her daughter and spoke in an indifferent tone, “Viv, darling, why are you getting so worked up, huh? Yes, that slut is back, but what could she possibly do?”
“Mom, you don’t really understand Natalie. I am sure that she would try to dig into everything that happened back then.”
“So, what if she does? She won’t find anything on us. And even if she does, Tyron would never let her harm us. Don’t forget that he is now dancing to our tune.”
“But mom, Natalie has Jason’s baby. What if she goes to him for help and the two get back together? What if Jason decides to divorce me and get remarried to Natalie? What am I supposed to do then?”
Sophia frowned as she looked at her daughter. She never expected that she would raise such a useless and cowardly daughter.
She held her by the shoulders and spoke to her in a cold tone, “Vivian, listen to me very carefully. Stop saying all these nonsensical things. It was Jason who helped you reunite with your father, remember? It was also the same Jason who helped get rid of that old wench!”
“So, whether Natalie goes to seek his help or not, I am sure that Jason would not help her. Because if he does, he might get caught. Plus, you have already given him an heir, so I don’t think he would leave you for someone who has been away from his life for five years.”
Vivian could not shake off the anxiety in her heart. She knew that Jason and Natalie shared a special bond, and although their marriage did not work, that did not mean that Jason would turn a blind eye if Natalie asked for his help.
“Mom, you don’t understand. I…”
“Vivian, what have I been teaching you all these years? How could you still be so naïve, huh?”
“Mom, what do you mean?”
“The way you managed to seduce Jason in the past, just make sure that he hates Natalie. You can come up with any sob stories, but just make sure that you tarnish Natalie’s name in front of Jason.”
“I also know for a fact that Jason loves you, but now that Natalie has returned, you have to make sure that he is head over heels in love with you, and don’t give him a chance to think about anyone else.”
After realizing the meaning behind her mother’s words, Vivian nodded happily as her eyes lit up, “Mommy, I got you. Don’t worry, I know exactly what to do!”
“Now, that’s my good daughter.”
