Harmon - The moment you turned eighteen
Harmon - The moment you turned eighteen
"Give us a minute," I said to Will as Olivia full on ugly cried, hands in tight fists at her side.
To the untrained eye, she might look weak, wiping fiercely at tears and snot. I knew better. She was far from done fighting for us.
"Tell me there's another woman, Harmon. Tell me you're not—" Will dared to say.
It took him long enough to go there. The son of a bitch must really trust me. He had balls, saying the shit he did tonight after everything I told him about me. For that and our history, he had my respect. But Olivia was more than a little upset and he was fucking done talking.
"Get the fuck out while I talk your sister into going home with you. You've said enough," I said, cutting him off curtly.
I never directed my end of discussion voice at him. I knew how people saw us. Like I was Will's lackey. I just didn't think Will was dumb enough to believe that they were right.
With Olivia glaring at him through blues brimming with tears, Will threw his hands in the air and headed to the door. His hand was already on the doorknob when he turned around to face me.
"In my position, you'd be rejecting you for her too and you know it," Will said, locking eyes with me, his words almost a plea, before he opened the door and stepped out. "I'll be waiting right outside this door. Send her home, Harmon. For her sake."
So much for the arrogant dick being done talking. The worst part? He got to me. I was unfazed by the things he said about me. They were the truth. It was the state he left her in that pissed me off. All the sense his words made.
Let her go. Keep her safe. Always protect her first.
My mind taunted me.
"Olive—" I began slowly, turning back to her.
"I don't want to hear it. I'm not a fucking child. I won't go," she insisted, making a beeline for the door her brother just exited from.
I was hot on her heels without a second thought. If I didn't handle this right, I'd lose them both.
"Stop, just fucking stop," I said, grabbing her by the waist.
She struggled, because of course she did, but I managed to pin her back up against the wall next to the door.
"How could you let him tell you how to feel about me? Do I mean that little to you?" she yelled, slamming her fists into my chest, evidently as pissed at me as she was at Will.
"Fucking Hunters. Stop and listen to daddy, baby girl," I said, trying to get her to meet my eye.
"No daddy. No baby girl. No third date. No more fucking —" she ranted, her eyes wild with betrayal when she finally looked at me.
"Shut the fuck up," I said, squeezing her sides and silencing her with a firm kiss on the lips. "You're not giving anyone else my pussy, Olivia," I said with a menacing growl.
"If I leave, it's just over. Everything is just—" she said in a deflated voice, her body stilling against mine.
"Remember the prom night incident? You refused to become exclusive with Jenny because she didn't take the hint about the infinity necklace you wanted. They were all the rage at the time. You wanted one so badly," I reminisced, seeking to distract her with a simpler time.
"I lied. She did get me one. She even said she loved me. I couldn't say it back. I couldn't be her girlfriend," she said in a small voice, opening her fists and flattening her palms onto my chest.
"Why not?" I asked, even though I already knew the answer.
"You know why not," she said as I bowed my head and I started nuzzling her neck.
"Tell me anyway," I said, the greedy dick I was, hungry for her affection.
I couldn't say I loved her and yet I couldn't help asking for her love. I needed every last drop for what I was about to do.
"She just wasn't you," she muttered. "After her, I just stopped trying. They weren't you."
My lips curved into a grin against her neck, pulse spiking, as though her words surprised me. They didn't, but I burned them into my brain anyway.
"You shouldn't have lied to me, Olive. What am I supposed to do with this now?" I said, producing a jewelry box from the pocket of the robe she was wearing.
Her eyes lit up as she took it from me with cautious hands.
"For me?" she asked, like she wasn't the sister of a billionaire who spoiled her rotten. "When did you—"
I fucking give you gifts all the time. What is that stupid smile on your face about, baby girl?
"Yes Olive, for you. Obviously. I had it made for your graduation. Then shit happened between us and I didn't know how to give it to you. I tried the day of date night, but then Jack showed up and well… Open it up. Say you like it even if you don't," I said, burying nervous excitement under nonchalance.
She stared at the gift box in awe.
"My first time getting a gift from a… It's my first time. I love it," she said before she had even laid eyes on the pendant.
Boyfriend. She was going to say boyfriend. Wasn't she? My pulse thundered in my ears. I held my breath, waiting for her real response. What the fuck was wrong with me? Women loved jewelry. Of course she would like it.
"Fucking look at it before you say anything," I said, sharing a little laugh with her.
I watched her closely as she picked up the infinity pendant out of the box. Her gasp told me she knew exactly what she was holding. The waterworks started anew.
"They're, they're rubies. From… " she stammered, trailing off midsentence, her voice cracking with emotion.
She held in her hands two rubies surrounded by an infinity symbol. I had this made for her months before her graduation. I really was a dumb fuck that didn't know my own heart. Only she could ever wear them. No one but her.
"Turn around for daddy, baby girl," I said, taking the pendant from her slowly.
She scowled at me, giving up the necklace with marked reluctance.
"It's yours, Olive," I said with a chuckle, piling all her hair onto one of her shoulders so I could slip the necklace around her neck. "Daddy just wants to see how it looks on you."
"But the rubies are from your favorite cufflinks," she whined her disapproval and I shook my head.
She really didn't know her worth.
Daddy knows you don't know the significance of those rubies. I'll tell you someday. For now, I hope you understand anyway.
We're for life, Olivia.
"They're your favorite too," I said, slowly turning her back around, careful to avoid her injury. "I should have had my dick inside your pussy the moment you turned eighteen," I said, looking down at the pendant around her neck.
