Chapter 293 New Life: Happiness After Pain

Chapter 293 New Life: Happiness After Pain
Leila's POV

I lay on the cold delivery table, waves of pain more intense than the last crashed through my entire body. I bit my lip hard, sweat soaking the loose strands of hair on my forehead. In this moment, the ten months of waiting had finally reached their end.

"Deep breathing, that's it, just like we practiced in prenatal class," the nurse gently guided me.

"How much longer?" I managed to ask between two painful contractions.

"You're at seven centimeters now. Hang in there," the nurse wiped the sweat from my face while encouraging me. "You're doing great."

I nodded weakly, gasping for air. "It hurts... it really hurts..."

"Think about your baby. You'll meet her soon," the nurse squeezed my hand reassuringly.

The pain intensified until I could barely distinguish between contractions. My mind flashed back through the entire pregnancy—Theron's protective hovering, the first ultrasound, the moment we felt her kick. Now, it felt like my body was being torn apart.

"Push! I can see the baby's head!" The doctor's voice sounded like it was coming from miles away.

"I... I can't do this anymore..." I cried out, feeling as if I was being split in two.

The attending physician looked at me firmly. "Just a little longer. You can do this. Your baby is trying hard to come out and meet you."

"Theron... where's Theron?" I called out through the pain.

The nurse comforted me. "Your husband is waiting right outside. He hasn't left once."

I took a deep breath, imagining Theron pacing anxiously outside the delivery room, remembering the strength of his grip when he brought me to the hospital last night. A newfound power surged within me.

"Now, hold your breath and push!" the doctor instructed.

"Ahhh—" I clenched my teeth, pushing with everything I had. My vision darkened, and a buzzing filled my ears.

"Good! The head is out!" the doctor announced excitedly. "One more push, one final push!"

A piercing cry suddenly cut through the tense atmosphere—so tiny yet so powerful, instantly penetrating my soul.

"Congratulations! It's a healthy baby girl!" the doctor declared.

Tears streamed uncontrollably down my face. "Is... is she okay?"

"She's perfectly healthy, seven pounds six ounces, ten fingers and ten toes, all perfect," the nurse answered with a smile.

"Can I hold her?" My voice trembled with emotion.

"Of course you can, mom." The nurse gently placed the cleaned infant on my chest.

When that small, wrinkled, rosy bundle touched my skin, the world seemed to stand still. I whimpered softly, "Hello, baby. I'm your mom... I've waited so long for you..."

"I'll go tell your family," the nurse said, walking toward the door.

Through the half-open door, I heard the nurse announce to my anxiously waiting family: "It's a healthy baby girl! Mother and daughter are doing well!"

The eruption of cheers made me smile despite my exhaustion. I could hear Jude's excited voice: "Adam! I'm an uncle again!"

"Yeah!" Adam's laughter carried into the room.

"May I go in first?" Mom's eager inquiry came next.

"Fantastic! I have another granddaughter!" Dad's excitement made me chuckle softly.

I gently caressed my daughter's tiny face, my heart overflowing with gratitude—for this world that had given me such a perfect family, for everyone I loved and who loved me in return.

The door opened quietly, and Theron appeared. His eyes were red-rimmed, his hair disheveled—clear signs he'd endured hours of anxiety.

"Laylie..." his voice broke as he quickly approached the bedside.

"Look, Theo, this is our daughter," I smiled, tears still in my eyes.

He bent down carefully, gazing at our tiny creation, silent tears falling. "She's... she's beautiful."

"Would you like to hold her?" I asked softly.

Theron nodded, taking our daughter with awkward yet loving movements. "Hey, little princess, I'm your dad..."

His finger gently traced our daughter's features before he leaned down to kiss my forehead. "Honey, you did so well. Thank you for giving me such a perfect gift."

"I love you, Theo," I whispered.

"I love you more, Laylie," he replied, holding my hand, his eyes filled with endless love.

Later, I was transferred to a recovery room, Theron holding my hand the entire way, his eyes barely leaving our daughter.

Upon entering the room, Mom immediately rushed over. "Laylie, my precious daughter!" She had tears in her eyes as she carefully kissed my forehead.

"I'm fine, Mom, really," I smiled reassuringly.

"Let me see my granddaughter." Mom turned excitedly toward Theron cradling the baby. "Oh my goodness, she looks just like you did as a baby, Laylie!"

Adam and Sophia entered hand in hand. Sophia's voice was gentle: "Laylie, you were amazing. She's beautiful."

Adam cleared his throat, trying to mask his emotions. "The little one looks good, Laylie." But as he turned away, I caught him secretly wiping his eyes.

Jude strode in, patting Theron's shoulder. "Congratulations, brother!" Then turning to me: "Laylie, you're the bravest woman I've ever seen now."

Brandon approached the bed, smiling. "May I see this little angel?"

Dad eagerly pushed through from behind everyone. "Let me see my granddaughter! Laylie, do you think she'll like the toys I bought her?"

I couldn't help but laugh. "Dad, she was just born. It might be a few months before she's interested in toys."

"I can wait!" Dad proudly declared, making everyone laugh.

"So," Brandon asked curiously, "what name have you chosen for her?"

Theron and I exchanged a glance. He nodded, letting me make the announcement. "We've decided to call her Ellie, Ellie Sterling."

"Ellie..." Mom repeated, her eyes full of love. "What a beautiful name."

"Welcome to the world, Ellie," Sophia said softly. "You have the most loving family in the world."

As I looked around at the faces of those I loved most, cradling my newborn daughter, I knew that despite all the pain, this moment of pure happiness made everything worthwhile.
