Chapter 279
279
Lawrence was completely blindsided and took the hit straight on.
Ezra, a retired special forces soldier, hadn't thrown a punch in years, but he put everything he had into that one, sending Lawrence stumbling back a few steps.
But Lawrence couldn't focus on the pain right now; all he could think about was Emily.
He tried to reason with Ezra and Gray, but Ezra, consumed by rage, wouldn't listen and kept landing punch after punch on Lawrence.
"Lawrence, if you hadn't run off with Emily, would she be in this mess right now?" Ezra shouted between punches.
"If you didn't love her, why did you torment her? She's carrying your child, you bastard! You killed her!"
"Lawrence, you're not even human!"
The more Ezra yelled, the angrier he got. Emily was the Wilson family's heir, and they cherished her. But now, because of this jerk, she was in danger.
They couldn't help but feel heartbroken.
They wanted to beat Lawrence to death to avenge Emily.
Gray also wanted to teach this bastard a lesson.
Just as Gray was about to join in, Lawrence dodged and wiped the blood from his mouth with the back of his hand. He tried to explain to Ezra and Gray.
"Ezra, Gray, please listen to me..."
"I had people investigate before I came. There's no record of Emily being admitted to any nearby hospitals, which means she might not have been caught in the explosion. She must still be alive."
This belief was what kept him going.
Emily would be okay.
But Lawrence's words only deceived himself.
They didn't stir any hope in Ezra and Gray; instead, they made Gray even angrier. He gritted his teeth and kicked Lawrence hard.
"Lawrence, do you think we're that easy to fool? Do you think we wouldn't know if something happened to Emily?"
Gray grabbed Lawrence by the collar. "Sure, the hospital doesn't have any records of Emily, but don't forget, her car was on the bridge where the accident happened. Why was she there? You know better than anyone!"
"If it weren't for your stupid birthday party, she wouldn't have snuck out, and none of this would have happened..."
Everything pointed back to Lawrence.
If he hadn't invited her, Emily wouldn't have taken the risk.
"The scene on the bridge is still chaotic. Who can guarantee Emily was rescued? If something happened to her, I swear we'll use all the Wilson family's power to make you pay."
Gray's eyes were red with anger. He raised his hand to punch Lawrence again, but Ezra stopped him.
"Gray, that's enough. This bastard isn't worth our time. Emily is waiting for us to find her and bring her home."
Even the usually stern Ezra choked up at the end.
When the incident first happened, Ezra had mobilized all his connections to search the scene.
It was horrific.
The ground was littered with debris from the explosion and injured bystanders.
The sudden explosion had caused a massive pile-up, with many cars plunging off the bridge into the sea.
The cars left on the bridge were mostly crushed and deformed, with heavy casualties.
Among the searchers, someone found a license plate with the Wilson family crest in the center of the explosion.
When Ezra and Gray heard this, they were almost knocked off their feet.
They wanted to believe Emily was the lucky one.
But the harsh reality was right in front of them. How long could they deceive themselves?
Ezra had seen countless peacekeeping missions abroad and knew the survival odds in such major accidents.
When they arrived at the hospital, their last hope was shattered.
Emily might really be gone.
So when they saw Lawrence, their first reaction was to beat him up to avenge Emily's death.
If they had known marrying Lawrence would bring Emily so much suffering and cost her life, they would have never agreed to the marriage.
Now, their top priority was to find Emily and bring her home.
As for Lawrence, they wouldn't let him off.
Gray finally let go, giving Lawrence a dark look. "Lawrence, you better wait for us."
"Gray, don't go! What happened? Do you know something?" Lawrence's heart sank at Gray and Ezra's reaction.
He was filled with a sudden, overwhelming panic.
The Parker family and the Wilson family were equally powerful. When he first heard the news about Emily, he rushed back in a panic.
The people he sent to investigate hadn't reported back yet, and the Wilson family's attitude made him fear the worst...
Gray decided to lay it all out.
If Emily was really dead, he wanted Lawrence to live in regret for the rest of his life.
"Emily was being targeted for days. They were after her life."
"We found out the person behind it was likely Elise, the woman around you!"
Gray revealed the truth.
They had known about the rumors between Lawrence and Elise for a while. If they hadn't been worried about Emily's health, they would have dealt with it sooner.
They had been watching the two, waiting for Emily to stabilize before teaching them a lesson.
Who knew Elise had such power and would harm Emily like this?
"Elise?"
"How could it be her? That's impossible!"
Lawrence was stunned, his rebuttal immediate.
He had stayed close to Elise to keep an eye on her.
And last night, Elise had been under guard until she escaped the yacht. Emily had left at dawn.
Even if Elise had the intent, she couldn't have planned an explosion in such a short time...
There had to be someone else behind this.
But Lawrence's eagerness to clear Elise's name only fueled Ezra and Gray's anger.
His wife and child were in danger, and Lawrence was defending a third party?
Gray gritted his teeth and spat at him. "Bastard, Emily must have been blind to fall for you!"
