(Freya's POV).
"You're not going to say anything?" I glanced at Devan who was talking, but I kept silent without intending to answer his question.
After what happened earlier, Devan insisted on accompanying me to pick up Adam at his school. I had initially refused, but he continued to insist on accompanying me.
To be honest, I felt a little relieved and scared too. Relieved to have someone beside me because I was still very scared that he suddenly come and do something bad to me or Adam. Although he didn't mention anything to Adam. He just warned me to stay away from Devan.
I don't know what his motive was, but I was very scared. Afraid that if he did do something to Devan, I would feel so guilty because it was all because of me.
In reality, I once loved him. The man who was once my husband. I didn't know what would happen if Devan found out that I was Freya. But I hoped that would never happen.
I never expected that I would get back together with Devan because everything was over. How could I accept back the man who killed Theo? I would be a bad family if I did.
"Say something. You've been quiet." I heard Devan's voice again and glanced at him.
"There's nothing to say."
"Vivian..."
"You're the one who insisted on accompanying me," I cut him off.
"I just wanted to make sure you stayed safe."
"With you by my side, he'll keep terrorizing me. Because he doesn't like me being close to you!" I snapped.
I don't know what was going through Devan's head, but he kept bothering me and trying to get close to me. It made me feel annoyed without knowing clearly why. Either he was approaching me because he liked me, or because I looked like Freya.
"I don't care who that bastard is. But who I'm close to, I decide and no one else has the right to control or dislike it," he snorted in annoyance.
"Talking to you will never work."
"I just want to show you that I'm serious."
"Would you like something bad to happen to you? You don't see him...." I swallowed my saliva with difficulty. The word 'kill' instantly sent chills down my spine. I hoped it would never happen. I hoped it was just a casual threat and not serious.
"Are you worried if he really hurts me?" He looked at me, and I felt a strange stirring as his black eyes looked at me with a loving gaze. I hated this feeling, but my heart always fluttered whenever I was next to him.
"In your dreams. I don't care if you get hurt or not. It's none of my business," I snapped.
"Do you have to be so cold," he said, "if I die─"
"Dev, stop it! Are you crazy?!" I glared at him, but he laughed.
"You're worried about me, right?" he grinned. Seemed satisfied to see my terrified expression. "Don't worry. I won't die before I make sure you're mine."
"That will never happen!" I exclaimed in exasperation. "Who wants to be yours anyway." I threw my face to the side. I was even more annoyed when I heard him chuckle again.
We spent the rest of the trip without talking at all. Until we arrived at Adam's school. Just as he was coming home from school.
"Mom!" I smiled as I saw Adam run into my arms.
"Hello, Sweetheart. How was school today? Was it fun?" I asked as I rubbed his cheek. Smoothing his clothes and hair. Making sure he was okay.
"Ung! It was fun. We learned how to draw today," he replied cheerfully. "Oh, Dev!" he exclaimed, his eyes lighting up as he realized Devan's presence.
I was surprised when he broke away from me and immediately handed Devan his wound.
"Hi, Kiddo."
"Did you guys come together to pick me up?"
"Yes. It just so happened that I still wanted to play with you, so I begged your mom to let me pick you up," Dev replied.
"Wow, I'm so happy! Are you going to stay at our house? I want to show you my drawing skills."
"Oh, that's...."
I gasped as Devan glanced at me as if asking for permission, but I hurriedly pulled Adam from his arms.
"Adam, he's busy─"
"I’m not busy," he cut me off. And I immediately glanced sharply at Devan. He grinned, making me feel very annoyed because it seemed like he did it on purpose. What was he planning?
"Nice! Mom, let Dev stay at our house! I want to play with him."
"Adam..."
"Please... tomorrow's the weekend. I want to spend time with Dev!" he shook both my hands while whining. It's something he does whenever he wants something.
"Just give in to his request. I don't have anything scheduled this weekend either," Devan said.
I couldn't understand how Adam could be this comfortable around Devan when they had only met twice. This made me feel very uneasy because I didn't want to see them spend more time together and become close. I didn't want Devan to know that...
"Vivian?" I gasped as I felt a touch on my shoulder. "Are you okay?"
"Oh, um, yeah?"
It seems I've been daydreaming so much that I've become unfocused.
“Are you sure?” he asked.
“Yeah.”
"Mom, is it okay? Please...." Adam whined again, looking at me with his sparkling black eyes.
"Okay, okay. But, just one night."
“Yeah!!”
